You think you’re the biggest Golden Girl fan in the world? Check out Bea Arthur‘s biggest fan: Eliot Glazer from Urlesque, whose tattooed homage to the feisty ladies in Florida shows more dedication than most of us feel towards any TV program. (Except for my Twin Peaks ink, of course.) More »
When Rue McClanahan died earlier this summer, we were saddened. Hopefully, this Golden Girl is in a better place; a version of heaven created specifically for her (like in the Peter Jackson movie, The Lovely Bones!). And after watching this video, one that we will never, ever have to visit, because it involves a living carpets of felines. More »
Lady Gaga, Royal Pains, the world’s most tattooed woman, Drake‘s new album and Real Housewives of New York City‘s season finale took over Crushable this week. They’re among our best posts from the last seven days. Check out the rest: More »
Rue McClanahan hated Sex and the City?!? — Late great Golden Girl Rue may have been the original Samantha as Blanche Devereaux but the actress herself was not a SATC fan. “I think it was one of the most dreadfully written shows! I thought it was sleazy,” she said in a 2004 interview. “They’re not being discriminating if they say we have anything in common!” (via InTouch)
Today’s news of the passing of former Golden Girls’ Rue McClanhan was a blow to everybody who grew up loving that show. And if the recent surge in Betty White’s popularity is any indication, everyone in our generation grew up watching The Golden Girls: either while home sick or after school, or during late-night college munchie sessions when our roommates bought the box set.
Why were the Girls so popular? It’s not just some ironic nostalgia factor: The Golden Girls were… More »
It’s a sad fact that celebrity deaths come in threes, and Rue McClanahan, better known as Blanche from Golden Girls, sadly just ended the week’s trend. Gary Coleman, Dennis Hopper, and now Rue, who passed away after suffering a stroke at 76. Total bummer. This also leaves Betty White as the only remaining member of the Golden Girls. In her memory, we’d like to present The Best Of Blanche:

Last week we asked Crushable readers whether they would ever hit on a guy wearing one of those so-called ironic t-shirts (which we guess are ironic the same way Alanis’ song was…is the irony in that we’re calling something ironic when really they’re just a lot of bad puns worn almost exclusively by neckbeards that are trying too hard?). Well, you definitely had your opinions:
While 19 percent of you said you’d never, ever talk to a guy wearing a “funny”… More »
Okay, usually when I see a guy with a scraggly beard and some dumb Busted Tee, my immediate thought was “I hope I don’t get stuck in an elevator with this douche.” But when I saw a scraggly bearded hipster wearing this “Stay Golden” shirt with a picture of Bea Arthur and co. today in the elevator, I almost hit the emergency button myself. Too cute! Maybe I’m just in a good mood because of the weather, but I actually… More »
Noah Garfinkel of Best Week Ever did a little bit of research recently into everyone’s new favorite piece of Nostalgia: The Golden Girls. (Sidenote: Doesn’t it seem like suddenly everyone remember how much they loved that show? That’s b.s. A lot of people are liars and are now desperately trying to Netflix every season of the show so they can stay ironically cool and relevant.) Whatever: point being that the Golden Girls theme, you know ‘Thank you for being a… More »
We’ve been having an internal office debate this week over Betty White. Sure, we loved her on Golden Girls, and that Facebook campaign to get her on Saturday Night Live was pretty ingenious, but now that she’s going to be on the late night sketch comedy show tonight, we’re wondering — do we really care? Amanda says yes, Betty is a national treasure and a brilliant comedienne who will knock tonight’s SNL appearance out of the park. But Erin is… More »
The NY Post asks, “What does ‘GG’ Mean To You?”. I can probably say with a great deal of confidence here that you’ll think Gilmore Girls with any reference of GG. But that’s not the case with everyone. The “GG” term is quite generational…
First there was Golden Girls, then Gilmore Girls, and now Gossip Girl.
So, perhaps GG is connected to whichever show came “first” for you, or for whichever show has your heart. But one thing is… More »
