In case you haven’t heard Michael Fassbender is a man. As biology and anatomy classes have taught us, this means he has a penis. Women have vaginas, men have penises and then there are eunuchs; Fassbender is not a eunuch. More »
There are sore losers and ungracious winners, but what would Elton John’s pre-Golden Globes attack on Madonna’s award prospects make him? Not psychic, apparently, because Madge did go home with a Globe for best original song in a motion picture despite the fact Elton insisted there was no “f**kin’ chance” she could win. More »
Ricky Gervais may not have been as mean-spirited in his 2012 Golden Globes monologue — he went for easy targets like Kim Kardashian and Eddie Murphy — but honestly, we liked it. Check out our favorite quotes, plus a hilarious .gif of Ricky and Madonna. More »
Jodie Foster being a good sport during the monologue, Tina Fey photobombing Amy Poehler, and George Clooney making a joke about Michael Fassbender‘s penis… it’s all here in our gallery! More »
Zooey Deschanel walked into this evening’s Golden Globes ceremony as a quirky television neophyte with a lot of award nominations. But her show The New Girl left without winning any awards. And tomorrow around the internets, she is likely to get some flack for a hairstyle that was clearly meant as some sort of homage to cute 1960s style, but was interpreted more like misbegotten sideburns. But her nails are another story. They’re kind of awesome. But are they too kitschy for a formal occasion? Hmnn. Unclear. More »
Tonight is The Golden Globes. Which means all of the actresses and stylists in Hollywood pull out their best dresses that they’re not reserving for Oscar night. And for some reason, a lot of ladies donned sparkling dresses that flared out at the bottom. These are known commonly as “mermaid gowns.” Or also, dresses that most normal women should never ever wear. More »
Peter Dinklage won his first Golden Globe award tonight for his work on HBO’s Game Of Thrones. And after making the usual round of thanks and shouting out to his wife and new daughter, Dinklage told the audience he was thinking of his friend Martin Henderson in England. Who is this Martin Henderson? Dinklage gave instructions: Google it. So we did. More »
It seems like a couple sets of celebrity friends conferred before heading to the Golden Globes tonight: Did you catch the matching headbands and dresses? More »
Overall the People’s Choice Awards 2012 were relatively boring. The highlight was all that unbrushed hair. We’re not knocking women who choose to wear their hair down, but if you’re going to do so, then at least brush it. We’re not being picky, we’re just being rational. FYI: brushes are your friends. Oh, that Zooey Deschanel. You either love her or you hate her. You either find her quirkiness charming or it’s a level of pain on all your senses that you just wish she’d disappear already. Too bad for the latter crowd, because Zooey is on something of a hot streak and isn’t going anywhere. More »
This year’s set of For Your Consideration ads directed at Oscars and Golden Globes voters include several movies where you have to wonder why they went to the trouble of paying for an ad. When it comes to animated fare, there seems to be a chasm between the transcendental masterpieces and (sorry) the popcorn fare. That’s why I was really surprised to see that movies like Gnomeo & Juliet (cringe-inducing) and Happy Feet Two (what I would consider just a shameless sequel) are vying for the Golden Globes’ Best Animated Feature. Kudos to Redditor paladin87 for posting this juxtaposition of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio together at the Golden Globes awards — first in 1998 for Titanic, then in 2009 for their second movie together, Revolutionary Road.
What’s fascinating is to see how they’ve obviously grown out of their awkward phases, yet in some ways it’s like no time has passed. The colors (especially Winslet’s lipstick and hair) look almost too similar; I wonder if someone Photoshopped them to match, like that Disney/Royal Wedding mash-up. Or maybe this is just proof that they should be together. Since we’re Kate/Leo ‘shippers, we’ll take that explanation. More »
1. Because they managed to make “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” seem like a sweet song not about stalking for an entire minute.
2. Because if Chris would just change his last name to Darren, we could have symmetry.
3. Because they’re two groundbreaking open teen gay characters on TV in a time where kids are beaten, bullied, and sometimes killed for who they are. More »
If you’ve hadn’t noticed, we’re in the midst of the exciting film awards season. I love the beginning few months of the year for this very reason, when hotly anticipated nomination lists fly around (faster than Harry Potter on his Nimbus 2000) as celebs hold their collective breath to see if they made the cut. (Ria Tesia is a writer living in London, giving us her take on pop culture from across the pond.)
It has been a busy time here in the UK, as an increasing number of British and US talent cross the pond to gingerly dip their toes into foreign waters. It is always interesting to see how home-grown talent performs abroad and last week was no exception as Stateside Brits hogged the headlines with varying degrees of success. More »
Last night at the Producer’s Guild Awards, funny man Judd Apatow ripped into Ricky Gervais‘ Golden Globe performance, calling the Brit “mean” and chastising him for making fun of Hurley (Jorge Garcia) from Lost. More »
Minnie Driver was on The Ellen Degeneres Show this morning, giving us some blind items about who was really wasted at the Golden Globes and showing their underwear in the ladies room. Which is fine, I guess. Who doesn’t love gossip? I love gossip! But what’s annoying is how Minnie dresses up her high-school snark as some sort of worldly, humbling experience for her. Shut up, Minnie Driver. More »
Ricky Gervais Isn’t Going to Apologize For Those Jokes That Were Written For Him At The Golden Globes - “”I’m not sorry for anything I said, because I’m not going to apologize for being true to myself,” said the guy who literally had a team of writers come up with his lines last Sunday. (PopEater)
Alright everyone. Natalie Portman‘s laugh might just haunt us all to the grave. The kids at College Humor might have won the extended meme contest for this moment. They’ve created a mesmerizing video that splices her awkward Golden Globes speech with all of the great, strange audience shots from the night. More »
Behind all that Golden Globe sarcasm was a pair of golden boxer briefs. Ricky Gervais wore his specially branded Ellen DeGeneres underwear to the Globes — and proved it by sending Ellen a snapshot of his unclothed body. Ricky, you should have stripped down during the show. That would have gotten people laughing. More »
