Lady Gaga’s Boyfriend Wants Her To Stop Acting So Weird All The Time

Do you ever wonder what Lady Gaga does when it’s just her and her man at home together? Does she put on sweatpants and watch TV with him, or does she continue to give birth to stuff, wear flesh-mutilating headgear, and say bombastic things about herself like she’s still onstage? According to a report from InTouch, it’s the latter.

“A source” says Gaga’s new dude Taylor Kinney is not too stoked on her inability to separate her real, everyday self from the character she plays. “Gaga started living and breathing her character 24/7 because she felt her fans wanted that,” said the source. This hews pretty closely to the gripes voiced by Gaga herself (dressed in drag as Jo Calderone) at the VMAs this past fall: “I want her to be real, but she says Jo, I’m not real. I’m theater! And you and I…this is just rehearsal.”

I can see how this would be annoying for someone who cares not just about the made-up character Lady Gaga, but the real person Stefani Germanotta as well. Then again, if you want someone to be real with you and not constantly “on,” maybe you shouldn’t date a self-described “fame monster.”

That said, I’m pretty sure this story is bullshit, because I’ve heard several firsthand accounts from people who know Gaga’s ex, Luc Carl, that she’s actually pretty normal when she’s having downtime with her friends and her man. I mean, as normal as it’s possible for Lady Gaga to be. If the story is true, it must be a recent development.

In case you didn’t know, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard is some sort of avid runner. As in the li’l generic rocker runs marathons and most recently the L.A. Marathon, where he even lost a couple toenails. Yum. But the real question here is: Is he better at running than he is at winning back his woman? Because a quote from next month’s Runner’s World has us thinking he’s working hard on the latter.

In February’s issue of Runner’s World, Gibbard discusses both music and running, and more importantly what gets him “pumped.” Although I half expected him to say one of his band’s songs (“The Sound of Settling,” perhaps?), Gibbard did even better: he claimed it’s a She & Him song that gets him rearing to go for a run. “She” being his soon-to-be ex-wife Zooey Deschanel and “He” being fellow musician M.Ward.

According to Spin, Gibbard said:

“Somebody on the Internet did a mashup of Ludacris and a song by She & Him, ‘Sentimental Mouths.’ The vocals are She & Him, but they put it with Ludacris, and it’s a totally triumphant thing for me to run to.”

After listening to the song, it’s easy to think Gibbard is one hell of a liar. I’m not talking shit about the song, but I am saying it’s not exactly a running song unless your idea of running is sauntering along in a rain storm at the end of a Katherine Heigl movie.

I’ve seen a lot of interesting techniques of people trying to win their exes back, but I really love this one. It takes something extra special to publicly announce that you’re rocking out to your ex’s music when it’s time to break a sweat. There’s so much to read between the lines on this that I can’t even think straight.

British singer Lily Allen (or actually, she’s Lily Cooper now, but who calls her that?) has managed to keep a pretty low profile since the birth of her daughter last November, not even releasing her kid’s name, but she failed to account for one thing: the mom factor. According to The Daily Mail, Lily Allen’s mother Alison Owen inadvertently told everyone what it was when posting a message to her friend’s Facebook wall, because moms don’t understand the internet. The name in question is Ethel Mary, which I think was an excellent choice, because babies with old lady names are the cutest. Say it with me: “Baby Ethel.” Aaw.

Although Lily Allen/Cooper is currently taking a semi-permanent(?) break from performing to focus on being a mom and running her boutique Lucy In Disguise, she has been doing a bit of songwriting, most recently for the Bridget Jones musical, and admits to wanting to get back onstage at some point. “Maybe I’ll be Lily Rose Cooper, the country artist,” she told the BBC this past summer. “When I do go to gigs I get a slight pang of envy and think, ‘Oh I do miss being up on that stage.’ But I have other priorities at the moment.”

Clint Eastwood may have directed some rather serious films (J.Edgar, Million Dollar Baby), but that apparently hasn’t kept him from enjoying the cuter side of life. I might even go so far as to say he needs to enjoy the cuter side of life, so as to balance out the angst all those heavy themes no doubt cause him. According to a certain anonymous source, Clint has grown fond of a squirrel that lives near his Los Angeles office, even going so far as to leave the door open so that “Lola” (which is what he has named it) can visit whenever she likes.

“Clint leaves the front door open whenever he’s inside working so Lola can come and go,” the source told Contact Music. “He gets a kick out of watching her and always keeps a bag of shelled peanuts on the bottom shelf of a bookcase in case she gets hungry. Clint would be so upset if Lola disappeared. He enjoys her company.”

Normally I’d dismiss something like this as obviously false, but it’s so random and innocuous that I kind of suspect it’s true, because who would think to make something like that up? Or maybe Eastwood himself has decided to spread this bit of gossip so as to create a kinder, gentler, more well-rounded image of himself in the public eye. Who knows?

Matthew Fox Will Not Be Denied Passage Aboard Your Party Bus

Lost star Matthew Fox was briefly detained by the police Saturday night by local police in Cleveland, Ohio. The alleged crime? Hitting a woman in a dispute over whether or not he could climb on board her party bus. This is not a tasteless euphemism for rape; she was actually driving one of those colorful vehicles that takes whooping frat boys around to various bars.

Police say the Lost star was hanging out at a local bar on Saturday. As he left, he tried to board a party bus uninvited.

That’s when the driver, Heather Bormann, told police she tried to block Fox from entering the vehicle. She says he was so steamed at being denied entry, he punched her in the breast and stomach.

According to the police report, the woman slugged Fox back, cutting his lip—and possibly breaking her hand in the skirmish.

It’s important to note that no arrest was made in this scenario, but the incident remains under investigation. Did Fox mistake her for a member of the Dharma Initiative? Is this a plot to get him under Their control? Or is Matthew Fox just a mean drunk? Find out next time, on Foxed.

Huffington Post’s Standards Don’t Apply to Lindsay Lohan Coverage

We’re not here to judge anyone’s business model, especially one as successful as The Huffington Post. Ever since the 2008 election, the site’s widely been considered one of the top news outlets in the country, which is an incredible feat considering that it’s a blog. We even forgive Arianna Huffington for the frothier parts of the site, like the Entertainment section that often reads like Us Weekly meets TMZ.com. But when we saw this full-page scrolling ad today for Mark Ecko, in which readers could enter for a chance to make a video with Lindsay Lohan, it was the final straw.

We get that celebrities like Lindsay make for great SEO traffic, and as a pop culture blog ourselves, we can’t really throw stones at a site for trading in gossip about the troubled Mean Girls star. Hell, we’re even a little bit jealous. Look at all these front-page Google results!

But there’s a difference between trading off of Lindsay’s newscycle, and trading off of Lindsay Lohan herself. Sure, it’s through a third-party advertiser, but as Arianna herself said:

I think the media need to look very closely at the way they’re failing the American people, because that’s their responsibility. That’s our responsibility, and now, with the growth of the online media, I clearly believe that we have the responsibility which you are exercising to hold the mainstream media’s feet to the fire and hold them accountable.

Of course, that quote was about the media’s responsibility to cover stories like the housing crisis, the war in Afghanistan, and the flailing economy. Unfortunately, those three topics aren’t sexy and don’t pay out $.60 per click when featured in ads. But it’s applicable: You can’t traffic in lambasting celebrities with one hand, while making money off of their featured ads with the other. Transparent though it may be, it leaves us with an icky feeling that bleeds over to how seriously we take the “serious” portions of your site.

Confessions Of A Real-Life Gossip Girl

When people ask what I do for a living, there’s no easy way to explain it.

I missed my best friend from high school’s bachelorette party because a certain daughter of a certain music icon was rushed to the hospital in an apparent drug overdose. When 911 is called for a celebrity, my boss calls me. That’s usually how it works.

My friend understood.

Weeks later at the wedding, when I wasn’t on the dance floor shaking my hips to the Black Eyed Peas with the bride, I was text messaging back and forth with a certain well-known father of eight.

My date – a guy friend – understood.

Later that night when our filets arrived, I looked around the table at my other friends with their husbands and pregnant bellies, and I realized something.

I was the only one who was still single, with the only ring on my finger being the one I got at the Lia Sophia event during Fall Fashion Week, right after I interviewed Paris Hilton.

I didn’t understand.

Before I explain my story, I want to go on the record and say this is not a “woe is me” pity party. In no way am I labeling myself the poor, pathetic single girl – because I’m not.

I’m just the single girl who’s a little behind in the department labeled “marriage, kids, house with a white picket fence.”

And I think I know why.

For the past six years, the main men in my life have been Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and most recently, Tiger Woods. No, I’m not the sixteenth mistress, but it is my job to find out if others are out there.

I’m an entertainment journalist, which means I have a journalism degree with real writing, reporting and editing skills, honed at “real journalism jobs” like newspapers. Until one day, during one internship at a celebrity magazine, I fell as quickly into the wild world of Hollywood news as Alice did down the rabbit hole.

Suddenly I went from covering local knitting clubs to star-studded record release parties and movie premieres in New York City. I went from wearing Coach loafers at work to four-inch stilettos. My new world was exciting, fast-paced and earned me more than a few bragging rights with my friends.

There was one night where I was pressed up against one of the hottest, coolest young male pop stars in an overcrowded club on Halloween. I had nowhere to move, especially with the fairy wings on my back poking everybody around me. He had nowhere to move either, and if I had just leaned in a few inches, I could have easily kissed him. Instead, I playfully tapped him on the head with my silver glittery wand, which evoked a smile so large I was the one who was under a spell. But then his angry blonde then-girlfriend pushed him along, glared angrily at me and cursed loudly at him within earshot, quickly interrupting my fantasy – but giving me a juicy story to write the next morning about the couple’s public spat.

There was another night I ended up elbow to elbow at a bar with the male half of one of Hollywood’s biggest power couples. After a source of mine had sent me a text message detailing the star’s whereabouts, I set out to see if his other half was with him. To my advantage, she stayed home, and I quickly learned why. He and I bonded over how difficult it was to get a drink and how difficult women could be at times. Yes, believe it or not, even one of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers sometimes has relationship problems and trouble getting a bartender’s attention. I let him vent and had another great story on my hands, wondering how a celebrity that well-known didn’t know better than to tell his life story to a bunch of drunk people in a bar. His publicist should have taught him better.

And there was the time I drank beers, slurped oyster shooters and watched football with a recently divorced former boy-bander poolside in a tropical destination while his girlfriend sulked in her room because he wasn’t paying enough attention to her. That time I was the one getting relationship advice from the celebrity; not a bad gig, I have to admit. There’s nothing not to like about my job, but trust me, just like with everything in life, there are downsides and things that get compromised along the way.

While each of these men’s leading ladies were conveniently M.I.A., so was my boyfriend of five years.

Oh, did I forget to mention I had a boyfriend while I was bopping from red carpet events to all-expense paid vacations to late-night V.I.P. after-hours parties? A boyfriend that I dreamed of marriage and kids with someday. A boyfriend that looked like Bradley Cooper, no less.

So why did I leave him home all the time? And why, more importantly, am I not still with him?

I lie in bed each night that brings me closer and closer to my 30th birthday wondering the same thing.

The easiest explanation I’ve come up with is this: My job and the lifestyle that goes along with it isn’t conducive to many romantic nights at home on the couch with a boyfriend and Tasti D Lite.

Plus, my ex-boyfriend was the beer-drinking, football-watching type; not a star-struck, clubbing wannabe, except for the time I introduced the lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan to his idol, Tony Romo.

He was thankful for my career choices that night.

But maybe if I worked less and if I partied less, my reality would be different now. My job has its minuses like anyone else’s job, but it sure beats writing about the United Nations or Iraq – not that I’m disinterested in those topics, but covering stories like that on a daily basis would depress me so much I’d have to negotiate a career-long supply of Paxil into my contract. Plus I’ve worked my way up the celebrity gossip ladder to a handsome salary and more-than-generous expense account, and someone has to pay my bills. Last time I checked there was no line of Sugar Daddies at my door.

So I’ve vowed to keep doing what I’m doing but to tone it down more than a few notches. I’ve decided to do more of my work in the office during normal hours and to choose yoga or catching up on DVR’d episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker instead of cocktail parties and movie premieres.

The reality is I have enough sources that I can still do my job without constantly being around celebrities, and more importantly, without being obsessed with them. And the only way I can be in a healthy, balanced relationship is if I stop revolving my life around them.

The truth about Hollywood’s rich and famous is they wake up in the morning and brush their teeth, just like you and I – well, some may not, judging from the odor when you get close enough.

But that’s my point: they have bad breath sometimes, they make mistakes and they have moments of vulnerability.

A while back during an interview with a female television star, who had recently divorced her husband after she discovered he cheated, the beautiful, strong, seemingly put-together girl began crying.

But she didn’t get up and go to the ladies’ room or run to her publicist or type away on her Blackberry. She gracefully took the tissue I had fished out of my bag, thanked me for taking the initiative to turn my tape recorder off, and she simply talked.

She talked about how hurt she felt, how betrayed she felt and how alone she felt. She talked about what she could have done differently in her marriage and her fear that she’ll never find love again or she’ll never find the strength and courage to move past the experience.

I listened, I shared and I empathized, having just lost the love of my life. This woman was ten times wealthier than I was, five times prettier than me, and yet she felt a hundred times lonelier.

It goes to show that even though we idolize, adore and even worship celebrities, they are people, too.

Still to this day, when I see that particular starlet at an event – events that end before 8 p.m., that is — she greets me with a big smile and a hug and genuinely wants to know if I’m OK and if I’m dating anyone new.

Next time we cross paths, I’ll tell her, yes, I actually am OK, but no I’m not dating anyone.

Then I’ll tell her I’m not worried. I’m just a little behind — but I’ll definitely catch up.

What are Joe Jonas and Hilary Duff Doing Together?

Joe Jonas was hounded by the paparazzi earlier this week while leaving fellow Disney alum, Hilary Duff’s house in Toluca Lake, California. There have been rumors galore that the duo is getting back together but that’s not true it seems. Of course, his surprised expression made it seem like he was ‘caught in the act’ but that’s not really why he was there.

According to MTV, the two singers are writing music together. Will this be a project similar to his duet with BFF Demi Lovato? They’re getting together for a song called, Make a Wave. Demi commented, “I can’t wait to sing our new duet together!” Joe then jokingly added, “You mean our new hip hop duet?”

I’m looking forward to seeing what Hilary and Joe have in store. What are your thoughts as far as the type of song it’s going to be? Joe is not short of a sense of humor so maybe it will be something lighthearted and fun. Check out this video he did to Beyoncè’s Single Ladies. Hilarious!
