The episode centers on Jake (Justin Kelly) and Clare (Aislinn Paul), the big couple of season 11. Nicknamed “Cake” by the fans, they progressed from childhood friends to friends with benefits to genuinely being in love… until they found out that his dad and her mother were getting married. Jake can’t handle the weirdness and wants his dad to be happy, so he breaks up with Clare.

Now, on to the actual episode: After their parents’ wedding, Jake throws one last summer party at his family’s cabin. (It being the dark Canadian woods is what makes this Halloween episode spooky; I’m sure there will be plenty of jump scares.) There’s a subplot about Katie (Chloe Rose) being paranoid that Bianca (Alicia Josipovic) is trying to get back together with her ex, and Katie’s boyfriend, Drew (Luke Bilyk), but the love triangle that really has my attention is Clare/Jake/Alli (Melinda Shankar). Alli is Clare’s best friend, and while I do remember her being attracted to Jake, I don’t think she’s ever developed feelings for him emotionally. So I’m really curious to see what makes her kiss him.

The best part is that this kid — whose name is Rizden, by the by — doesn’t even realize the genius he’s helped create. This is the main reason I want kids, to dress them up as fairly obscure movie characters before they have enough wherewithal to choose their own costumes.

Jimmy Kimmel played the ultimate Halloween prank on his viewers’ kids. On the night of the 31st, he asked parents to wake up in the morning and tell their kids all their hard-earned trick-or-treat candy had been eaten. He also asked that they video tape the whole thing, of course. There’s definitely something a little bit mean about this (I would have murdered my folks!), but the results are pretty funny.

I promise you it’s worth watching all the way through to get to the last kid. He’s going to be our president one day, so it’s probably time you familiarized yourself with the little fellow.

Last night, Neil Patrick Harris sent out a twitpic of his family in costume for Halloween, and I damn near died of cuteness. This is like, puppies vs. kittens vs. babies levels of cute. It would appear NPH is portraying the venerable Captain Hook, while his dreamy twink of  a husband is Peter Pan. Their kids are their respective sidekicks, Smee and Tinkerbell, because why would you have children and deal with their poop, etc. if you couldn’t dress them up in ridiculous costumes?

In other NPH-related news, I am going to see A Very Harold And Kumar Christmas in 3D tonight(!), and I have every confidence that NPH will slay it even if the rest of the movie sucks. Between Harold and Kumar and Captain Hook, I’d say he plays villains surprisingly well.

The Chia Pet’s a wonderful thing. It allows you to playact at owning a pet without having to feed it or walk it or clean up after it when it pees on the carpet. So why would you want to ruin the best part of the Chia Pet by adding a real, live dog to the equation? Well, just like so many questions (Why’d you come home shoeless and covered in blood?; How come you have seven new cavities?), the answer here is: Halloween!

As part of his continuing effort to convince everyone he’s just a nice, normal guy and not a crazy narcissistic asshole, Chris Brown put on a skin-tight alien costume and tweeted a picture of his bulge to his 5 million+ followers last night. You know, totally normal behavior.

“I don’t think I can wear this costume tonight! Gonna change!” he oh so coyly captioned it, as if he hadn’t shown his creepy, diagonal tights-bulge to 5 million people already. I think it’s time for a little Internet lesson: Just because it’s online (and not IRL) doesn’t mean different rules apply. I know it’s easy to be an exhibitionist via Twitter, Whosay, and whichever other social media apps you’re using, but if you wouldn’t show up to a party in that thing like, “LOL I shouldn’t be wearing this LOL you can totally see my peen LOL!”, do not do the equivalent thing on social media. The people who see it may not be literally inches from it, but they are still corporeal beings, and they still have the ability to get nauseated IRL. Seriously dude, nobody needed to see that. Netiquette 101.

Heidi Klum is absolutely the Halloween Queen (is there a T-Rex song called that?). On Saturday, she decked herself out as a gruesome blood-and-muscle baring corpse who was carried out on a gurney. And last night, she and husband Seal dressed as a pair of super-authentic looking apes for Heidi’s annual Halloween party.

Apparently Heidi’s costume — which included prosthetic breasts, fake fur and teeth, and makeup — took six hours to get into. However, Heidi admitted to being pretty pleased by that fact that she got out of wearing heels. Here are Ape Heidi and Ape Seal kissing:

Hey, it’s still Halloween! I almost forgot about the holiday with all the Kardashian/Simpson, etc. news that broke today. But the spookiest day of the year is upon us and I intend to eat candy until I’m sick. You know that game where someone writes the name of a celebrity on an index card and sticks it on your forehead? And you have to gather clues from the other participants in order guess who’s up there? I sincerely hope this kid is playing that game, and also that no one ever tells him what the front of his costume says.

My mom gave me the safe sex talk pretty early. She emphasized the importance of using condoms way before I really, truly understood what those were and it was a lesson that totally embedded itself into my subconscious. Thanks for that, mom, and also thank you for realized that a talk was enough; there was no reason to dress me up as a bit of walking contraceptive on what’s supposed to be the most fun day of the year.

Parent of the Year Award: you have met your match.
