Since we’ve now moved on from auditions to the grueling start of Hollywood week on American Idol, there are fewer “wow, what were they thinking moments” and a lot more applause-worthy moments. American Idol Season 9 – Welcome to Hollywood Week!
It goes without saying that I love when American idol gets down to the top 12 for obvious reasons, but aside from that I think my favorite part of the show is Hollywood week. I don’t really know how to explain my enjoyment, I think it’s just seeing who can really survive the huge transition from audition to Kodak Theater.

Sneak peek at American Idol Hollywood week
As if it’s not enough that we finally have American Idol back on our TV screens with the audition rounds (don’t forget Atlanta’s up tonight!), we also got a special extra bit of anticipation. Ryan Seacrest gave us a little video about Hollywood week which is currently being taped.

Ellen DeGeneres starts Idol judging in January for Hollywood Week
In the past, American Idol has started Hollywood Week in November prior to the beginning of the televised season. However, this year they’ve changed it up a bit due to Simon Cowell’s schedule and Hollywood week won’t start filming until January.
Hollywood Week is also when we’ll get to see Ellen DeGeneres starting her Idol judging career for the first time. They’ll be airing in February right after the first audition rounds are televised.

American Idol 8 Hollywood Week – Day 4
We saw the fourth day of Hollywood Week tonight on American Idol and, except for a couple things, I wasn’t really surprised. What did you think? With 72 contestants competing to be among this year’s finalists, it was good to see some people taking risks. The Idol hopefuls were allowed to use instruments during their performance (most didn’t).
