]]> The ladies on The View opened the “Hot Topics” discussion this morning by talking about last night’s 51st Grammy Awards.  I have to say that Barbara Walters went over the top loving up the Jonas Brothers while Whoopi Goldberg said she was surprised that she liked the performance by teen sensations, Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. 

They also talked about the fact that MIA performed “Swagger Like Us” live alongside Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I. and Lil Wayne despite the fact that yesterday, she was due to give birth (she could have gone into labour on-stage!!!). 

Of course, you can’t have a Monday morning discussion without including something about Nadya Suleman, the woman who gave birth to octuplets following in-vitro fertilization (despite the fact that she already has six kids at home!). 

They also talked about celebrities who have had to apologize recently for their recent behavior (Michael Phelps for his drug use and Christian Bale for his movie set rant) and whether stars should have to say sorry for their mistakes.  I was surprised when they didn’t bring up Chris Brown and Rihanna’s weekend nightmare.  In case you haven’t heard, Chris has been arrested for felony battery after allegedly assaulting Rihanna.

]]> This morning on The View, host Elisabeth Hasselbeck talked about her visit to the White House and showed pictures of her children interacting with President Bush (one of her kids headbutted the president).  Barbara Walters and Elisabeth both talked about how they hope people can be respectful of Bush as he prepares to leave office.  There was some humorous banter about Barbara stealing things from the White House. 

Whoopi Goldberg also talked about the fact that Paul McCartney will be on the show later this week and they mentioned how rare it is for him to do live interviews. 

The women also talked about last night’s Golden Globe awards (Barbara was happy that Mad Men won) and Sherri Shepherd asked them to show the clip of Tina Fey’s acceptance speech when Tracy Morgan took over and explained that he would be the new face of “30 Rock” since Barack Obama had won the US presidency.

They also talked about Kate Winslet, who was visibly shaken after winning twice at the Golden Globe awards.  It was truly charming (I loved her last night). 

The women brought up Patrick Swayze, who is currently in the hospital with pneumonia.  He’s been battling cancer while filming and promoting his television show The Beast.  I sincerely hope he gets better and I know he means a great deal to Whoopi since they co-starred together in Ghost (1990).
