Video: Watch Kristen Bell Have A Total Meltdown Over Sloths

Kristen Bell stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show for a chat this morning, and told her a story about her favorite animal that has to be seen to be believed. Luckily, she brought video footage with her.

The story goes like this. Kristen’s boyfriend Dax Shepard said he had a birthday surprise for her, and told her to get the dogs and go in the other room. Kristen somehow knew immediately that there was a sloth nearby, and began sobbing with joy. Dax had the video camera all ready to capture her look of happy surprise, but when he found her, she was a hysterical mess. The sloth sure was cute, though. (Don’t worry, he didn’t buy the sloth…he only rented it to hang out at her birthday party.)

I love how humorous and self-deprecating Kristen Bell is about the whole thing, and I also love how Ellen fakes her out at the end. Also, now I’m wondering why my boyfriend hasn’t rented me a sloth yet, because sloths are pretty much the best.

When we left off on Royal Pains season 3 in August, Divya‘s (Reshma Shetty) world was starting to crash down around her. This season, she’s been working as Hank Lawson’s (Mark Feuerstein) physician assistant while taking extra shifts at Hamptons Hospital after her parents disowned her and she has no money. Unwilling to tell Hank about her financial troubles, she’d been losing sleep moonlighting at the hospital. In the midseason finale, her carelessness in prescribing oral steroids to a diabetic patient (guest star Wilmer Valderrama) led to him collapsing.

“A Farewell to Barnes,” the first of six new episodes, airs tonight at 10 p.m. EST. We spoke with Reshma about her big plotline and the fallout of Divya’s mistake… especially how it will affect her relationship with Hank.

What can you tell us about tonight’s episode and Divya’s mistake coming to light this season?

She’s the kind of person who’s so perfect in every way and so put together, but so many things are going wrong, which is what life is. She doesn’t know how to deal with them, and the one person who has always stood by her and believed everything about her is Hank. He’s the last person that she wants to know. She doesn’t realize that it was a HankMed patient. She’s never learned that life is [about making] mistakes; she’s alwas been so protected and all of these things are falling down around her. I think that’s good for her, to be humiliated.

You recently shot an episode of CSI: Miami. What’s the difference between filming on a traditional set in LA versus Royal Pains on the East coast?

[CSI: Miami] is hitting its tenth year, so it’s really contained, the days are much shorter. It’s kind of a well-oiled machine. Our show, because we are so location-based, you have to go somewhere for an hour, then you’re there, then you’re shooting for 17 hours. You have environmental things [to deal with], etc.

LA’s weather is kind of the same all the time; you don’t have issues like “it’s raining” or “there’s no sun.” I think the pressure of that is easier, that’s kind of what I’ve seen so far. I’ve never spent any time here; first time out. It’s hitting pilot season so it’s a totally different machine. The one problem with our machine is we shoot on the opposite schedule of network shows, so when our off time comes everyone else is either working or everything in the industry shuts down in Decmeber. It’s kind of a good vacation time, I guess, but now just walking around the buzz of pilot season… thank God I don’t have to participate.

Famed butter lover Paula Deen gave her first interview on the subject of her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis to Al Roker on The Today Show this morning, and much like a deep-fried donut wrapped in bacon, something about it did not sit right with me.

To her credit, she at least admitted her unhealthy lifestyle was “a piece of the puzzle.” When asked why she waited two years to tell everyone about it, Paula responded that it was a private matter (fair), but also that she had “nothing to give to my fellow friends out there,” by which I’m pretty sure she meant “I hadn’t yet figured out a way to make money off of it,” as the announcement of her diagnosis was timed suspiciously well to coincide with her signing of a multi-million dollar endorsement deal to promote the new diabetes drug Victoza. “I have been compensated, just as you are for your work,” she condescendingly told Al Roker, as if marketing a drug directly to people without medical degrees is in any way a reputable profession.

I think I’ll let (an unusually diplomatic) Anthony Bourdain take it from here:

“When your signature dish is hamburger in between a doughnut, and you’ve been cheerfully selling this stuff knowing all along that you’ve got Type 2 Diabetes… It’s in bad taste if nothing else.”

Last night on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Alec Baldwin discussed moving to Greenwich Village, tweeting from the bathroom, and his run for mayor of NYC (or non-run, as he insists on insisting). Along with each charming anecdote, he did at least one impression of someone else. Sometimes multiple impressions!

Over the course of the interview, he portrayed a South Asian cabbie, a New Yawk cabbie, Jimmy Stewart, a horse, a shady moving guy, and a miserly Mayor Bloomberg. But his impression of 30 Rock cast mate Tracy Morgan was by far the best, if only because Tracy Morgan is the best. When asked by Conan what it’s like to work with him, he told a charming story about how Tracy likes to recuperate from his hangovers by watching Michael Jackson specials from the 70s, and did an impression that was equal parts accuracy and affection. Oh, to be a 30 Rock cast member and get gently mocked by Alec Baldwin.

In the December issue of Vogue, there’s a rather flattering profile of Charlize Theron in which she thoroughly charms the writer by (among other things) taking him hiking with her dogs and making him a mix tape. It’s packed to the brim with celebrity profile clichés, not the least of which is “say something nice about an actress younger than you,” but I still think what she says about her Snow White and the Huntsman co-star Kristen Stewart is pretty sweet:

Kristen is just living this [fame] to the max and still has a sense of humor about it. There’s this really lovely quality about her that just doesn’t give a fuck. A lot of people say they don’t, but then they go home and cry and pop a Xanax. Kristen actually doesn’t give a fuck. That’s what’s so refreshing about her. I’m looking forward to killing her and taking her beauty.

I’m assuming that last part was in reference to the movie, but then again, maybe not! Anyway, it seems like this is true about K-Stew, and that’s why I’m willing to give her a “you don’t annoy me” pass most of the time despite the fact that she owes her fame and fortune to a series of objectively terrible abstinence commercials. I mean, come on. Girlfriend gets her smoke on in her pajamas like she hasn’t a care in the world:

Then again, weed is basically the teenage version of Xanax, so maybe she’s not quite as carefree as Theron thinks.

Rihanna Forgives Chris Brown For Beating The Crap Out Of Her, Wishes Him Well

The just-released Rihanna cover story in the November issue of Esquire contains much to be uncomfortable about. The intense focus on sexuality to the exclusion of Rihanna’s other attributes might give some people pause. The accompanying video was also puzzling to me; do men really fantasize about ravishing a woman all covered in dirt and seaweed? When I try to place myself in that fantasy, all I can think about is the amount of dirt that would get on the guy’s penis, and how much I would not want that dirt in my vagina. Maybe some male readers of Crushable can weigh in. (Do we have male readers?)

But the most heartbreaking part, in my opinion, came when Rihanna was asked about Chris Brown, and gave this answer without skipping a beat:

It’s incredible to see how he pulled out of it the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know? I really like the music he’s putting out. I’m a fan of his stuff. I’ve always been a fan. Obviously, I had some resentment toward him for a while, for obvious reasons. But I’ve put that behind me. It was taking up too much of my time. It was too much anger. I’m really excited to see the breakthrough he’s had in his career. I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have.

Really, Rihanna? You think it’s great how he convinced everyone it wasn’t such a big deal after he beat the living shit out of you? And you are excited over his career breakthrough? Furthermore, you like his music and wish him well? This is profoundly upsetting to me.

I’m not saying she shouldn’t heal from the experience. It’s not healthy to feel angry and upset about something forever. But to actively wish him well, and imply that he deserves to have a wonderful career? It seems like something is way wrong here. Ask anyone who’s been assaulted. Assuming you aren’t stuck in a tragic cycle of self-blaming, you do not send your fucking attacker flowers.

Was this statement driven by self-blame, or the knowledge that the pop music establishment has for some reason decided that Chris Brown still gets to have a career, which she must now condone or risk being seen as an “angry woman”? Either way, fuck that. Rihanna might forgive Chris Brown, but I don’t. See also: this wonderful article on our sister site The Gloss.

Ashton Kutcher’s Alleged Mistress Spills Juicy Details To Us Weekly

Because our culture is currently set up such that we care a lot when celebrities cheat on their spouses, there has been an enormous amount of attention on this “Ashton Kutcher Cheats On Demi Moore” story. Alleged “mistress” (in scare quotes because does a one night stand really confer “mistress” status on someone?) Sara Leal reportedly wanted $250,000 to tell her side of the story, and I have no doubt tabloids were scrambling over one another for a chance to give it to her.

The tabloid that emerged victorious in this struggle was apparently Us Weekly, which will publish a multitude of details from their “exclusive sit down with Leal” this coming Friday. They’ve already published a few tidbits from the interview on their website, and these tidbits are as follows:

-Sara Leal met Ashton at a “wild, all-night party in his suite at San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel,” on his six year anniversary with Demi Moore. How poetic.

-He displayed a type of sexual aggression that many might find uncharacteristic of Ashton Kutcher:

“He just came up and kissed me,” the Texas native tells Us of Kutcher’s first bold move in the wee hours; minutes later, Leal, Kutcher and another young woman were completely nude and in a hot tub on the balcony.

“I didn’t think it was out of the ordinary,” Leal admits. “I wasn’t self-conscious about getting naked.”

After retreating to Kutcher’s bedroom past 6 a.m., “he lost his towel and I took my robe off,” Leal says. “Then we had sex.”

-Ashton Kutcher is not (I repeat not!) “weird or perverted” in the sack. (This I can believe.)

-He used the ol’ “my wife and I are separated” line on her. As if Ashton Kutcher needs to use that line. Good looking out for Sara Leal’s guilty conscience, I guess?

-Ashton Kutcher didn’t use a condom when he cheated on his wife! This is very bad!

-Ashton Kutcher laughed at everything she said. Because he was stoned.

-Ashton Kutcher likes to talk politics after he has sex with a lady.

-Ashton Kutcher enjoys the moments when he gets to drop the heavy mantle of “Ashton Kutcher, Hollywood actor” and just be real with someone:

“He was like, ‘I enjoy things like this because I’m an actor 90 percent of the time and it’s fake. It’s nice to have moments that are real,’” Leal recalls.

Our beloved A-Skars recently sat down with Swedish filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund to do a tag team interview with Out Magazine. Over the course of the interview, they discussed many interesting facts about their icy homeland, but the most delightful part came at the end, when they explained why Swedes have such a lax attitude towards sexuality:

Skarsgård: Also, I think part of the reason why there are so many musicians coming out of Sweden is you’re encouraged to play an instrument, or to sing and be creative, from a very early age, and it’s free. It’s a combination of a good school system and the long, dark winters. Because that means people sit in their garages and play music for five months because it’s too cold and dark to be outside.

Åkerlund: That’s the boning season. [Laughter] And then it’s spring, and that’s also boning season. And summer’s the best boning season.

Skarsgård: And that’s also why we’re so liberal and so cool with our sexuality — because we fuck a lot [laughter].

Åkerlund: How much time can you spend playing the drums?

Skarsgård: When you’re bored, just have sex.

I feel like there are lots of people out there who would not at all mind having boredom sex with A-Skars, during the boning season or not. It turns out that despite her character in Cameron Crowe‘s Elizabethtown being the direct inspiration for the movie character of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Kirsten Dunst has absolutely no idea what a MPDG is. Cue the awkward conversation that Moviefone’s Mike Ryan ended up in when he interviewed Kirsten about her new film Melancholia earlier this week.

For the uninitiated, the MPDG is a quirky, unbothered creature who teaches male protagonists the value of embracing life (even if she has to die). You’ll get a really good sense of the trope after you read our Fan Fiction, A Day In The Life Of Your Standard Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

So back to Kirsten. Even though her performance has inspired other actresses like Zooey Deschanel to take on this frustratingly twee character, she was mystified — and then annoyed — once she learned about it. We’re just copying over the entire exchange, because it’s that great.

What’s your opinion of the term Manic Pixie Dream Girl?
What is that?

Oh… it was coined for your character in Elizabethtown.
Oh?

It kind of means…
That’s so weird. What’s it called? The Manic Pixie…

Video: Ryan Gosling On Disneyland’s Army Of Killer Cats

Our secret boyfriend Ryan Gosling continues to make the talk show rounds promoting his new movie Drive, and last night it was Conan O’Brien‘s turn to be utterly charmed by him. The whole interview is really worth watching, but my favorite part came early on when Conan asked him about his relationship to Disneyworld. He’s often photographed there, you see, on dates or sometimes just by himself, eating cotton candy and enjoying the rides. Plus, believe it or not, he got his start on The Mickey Mouse Club, so perhaps he has some kind of pass to get in free for life?

Ryan explained his ambivalent feelings on Disney to Conan the only way he knew how, with an anecdote about Disney’s army of killer cats:

I have a real love-hate thing going on with Disney. It’s a slippery conversational slope… I’ll give you an example of why I love and hate them. I don’t know if this is true or not, and I do not want to get sued by Disney…There is a belief that Disney has been breeding an army of cats. And they’re not just ordinary cats. They have a special set of skills. They’re like commando cats and they live in a barracks — a cat barracks, I don’t know what you call it — and they live on the outskirts of the park. And at night, when they close the park under the cover of darkness, these cats descend into the park and they eat all the mice. Which is what I love about Disney because they’re so weird and they think of everything… But the thing that’s so messed up about it and why I hate them, is that the whole empire of Disney is built on the back of one mouse.

This might be the cutest jokey story he’s told yet, and he’s told a lot of cute ones. Will someone please make a Ryan Gosling commando cat Photoshop, like, yesterday? Because that would be the best thing the Internet has ever contained.
