Maybe it’s the “intricate” lyrics about a naval battle; maybe it’s the pressure linked to the honor of belting out the anthem at baseball, hockey, and football games; or maybe you can actually cross-reference “getting chosen to sing” with “lacking brain cells.” Regardless, if you’re horrified at possibly losing Francis Scott Key‘s lyrics, you can thank these guys.

The latest and perhaps most grievous offender (at this year’s Super Bowl), the pop star made two mistakes: She crooned the anthem like one of her love songs, and she came up with the line “At the twilight’s last reaming,” which sounds like an uncomfortable experience with Stephenie Meyer‘s books. On the bright side, it created a hilarious meme.

Agreed. But we also wonder, annoyingly, “If we got famous and in-demand, would we upgrade our boyfriends?” Would you? Remember, Jennifer Hudson did the same with her ex/childhood love and now she’s married to attorney/reality show contestant David Otunga. If you became connected with a wider circle of hot people and hit it off with Joseph Gordon-Levitt at a party, could you go back to your college boyfriend?

“It’s all like a blur,” she said. “It was surreal…it was like I was outside of myself.”

Getting teary, Jennifer said she was asked to do a film during that period in her life, but had to decline. “I was like, I have to get adjusted to who I am now,” she said. “So I can’t be another character if I don’t know who I am.”

Other highlights from the documentary include Jennifer’s sister revealing that “All Jennifer wanted to do was sing…and be famous.” And did you know that the night that the Oscar winner was voted off American Idol there were storms in the Chicago area, knocking down phone lines and preventing her family and many of her fans from voting for her? Very suspect.

Now an award-winning actress and chart topping singer, Jennifer is happily engaged with a son — and recently became a spokesperson for Weight Watchers.

As a loyal viewer of the Fox competition since day one, I stand by that statement. Lee has some talent but no stage presence, no real of selling out stadiums like Carrie Underwood or even doing Broadway like Taylor Hicks. Tellingly, he’s the third unassuming guitar guy in a row to win the Idol title after Kris Allen and David Cook. This is because being an average brown-haired dude with a good voice and Everyman appeal offers an edge over other more interesting contestants who are more wild cards than safe bets; everyone agreed that Adam Lambert was a better performer than Kris Allen, but Kris Allen had mainstream voters locked down (even though slinky, sparkly Adam Lambert had viewers on the edge of their seats to see just what he’d do next).

Since American Idol is more of a popularity contest than a singing competition, of course Lee DeWyze emerged victorious: He’s someone viewers want to grab a beer with, someone they might have known in high school or in the house next door to where they grew up. His gender helped him, too. Idol voters are largely female, and there’s no doubt that millions wanted to get with Lee. (Rule of Reality TV: Cute bland boys become cuter each week as they become more familiar to viewers).

Crystal Bowersox, who lost out to Lee on Wednesday’s bittersweet finale, is an Adam Lambert. She’s also a Clay Aiken, a Chris Daughtry and a Jennifer Hudson. As an student of Idol history can attest, runners-up and als0-rans stand to surpass the commercial and critical success of the show’s big winners if they make all the right moves. While several of the show’s past champs– David, Kris, Taylor, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino – have seen their careers plateau, if not plummet, a handful of nonwinners like Chris and Jennifer have gone on to dominate the charts, win Oscars and establish credibility on both the radio and in the music industry. And that’s all they can ask for — that’s the endgame of American Idol.

Unless you’re Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, sometimes it’s better NOT to win American Idol. If you’re Lee DeWyze — otherwise known as Lee DeWHYze — the pressure is on. Lee has one bag of tricks (the boring singer-songwriter Nickelback thing), and without the TV show to fall back on, he’ll lose momentum as fans lose interest in his celebrity as well as his music.

Crystal, however, is the real deal: She is an artist with a lot of soul and an appealing earthy sensibility, not unlike Bonnie Raitt. She will have a long-lasting music career because there is a need for someone like her who’s a bit more adult contemporary than Top 40: She’s got more life experience than Taylor Swift and less slick pop-production than Lady Gaga. She lacks Adam’s gift for controversy, but stirring up drama is not her thing: All she needs is a hit song shows off her warm, bluesy voice, a “Something To Talk About” or “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” She’s better off than Lee because, frankly, she’s better than him. She just is.

Back to Lee: How will he make fans continue to love him? What can he do, if anything, to milk his big win and deliver on his promise?

Music: And if you’re really excited about Sex and the City 2, why not prepare for Thursday’s premiere by picking up the movie’s soundtrack, in stores Tuesday. It features feel good songs by female artists like Alicia Keys, Cyndi Lauper, Dido, Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis. Liza Minelli sings “Single Ladies,” and the cast sings “I Am Woman.” Yes please.

Movies: Oh, nothing much going on this weekend. Just the second most awaited chick flick since the first Sex and the City movie hit theaters two years ago. And the next day, Friday, will feature the premiere of Jake Gyllenhaal and his hair in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

TV: We have a big TV week ahead of us. Just as we’re getting over the hangovers of the last episodes of Lost and Celebrity Apprentice last night, get ready for two big series premieres: The Bachelorette featuring Ali and So You Think You Can Dance‘s seventh season featuring “All Stars” like fan favorites Twitch and Pasha. Just in time, too, as Dancing with the Stars‘ final competitors, Nicole Scherzinger, Erin Andrews and Evan Lysacek, make their last performances on Monday, with the finale Tuesday.

But there are a few other series finales of note this week, too — not the least of which is American Idol ninth season’s final performances Tuesday and big finale show Wednesday. Will it be Lee or Crystal? Who are you going to vote for?

Also, be sure not to miss the last episode of Law & Order on Monday, though the show’s sure to live on in syndication forever. The last episode of 24, at two hours long, is also that night, as well as a two-hour Chuck finale.
