Can Idina Menzel Be Rachel's Mom On 'Glee'?

Celebrity casting news is nothing new with Glee — Neil Patrick Harris and Jennifer Lopez are among the stars who have already signed on to guest star — but rumors about Idina Menzel’s guest role have us giddy with excitement.

The show has already announced that Idina will play the director of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline, but the New York Daily News’s Rush & Molloy hints that the Broadway star’s character may also be Lea Michele’s character’s biological mom. Perhaps fittingly, one of Lea’s big numbers on Glee has been “Defying Gravity,” a song from Wicked made popular by Idina. And, the two women do look similar as well. We love the idea of Rachel dealing with meeting her mom. What do you think about this possible plot development?

Poll: How Did J. Lo Do On SNL?

It’s been a rough week for Jennifer Lopez, what with the loss of her record contract and all. But she showed no sense of buckling under the pressure of the media scrutiny of her life as she hosted Saturday Night Live last night (except maybe in the somewhat off-key singing of her two songs during the show).

Like any SNL ep, the show had highs and lows. Our favorite moments: the “We Are The World” remake parody at the start of the show and another sketch in which J. Lo played herself and went a little crazy with the Latina, yelling “Ay, ay, ay!” She’s very adept at making fun of herself, which actually makes her pretty endearing.

Star Shrinking: J.Lo's Woes

It’s been a rough week for Jennifer Lopez, with the loss of her record contract and the threat that her new album, Love?, may not be released. We wanted to know: how can a mega-superstar like J. Lo deal with such a Gigli-like career blow? We asked therapist Dr. Gilda Carle to weigh in.

With her record contract debacle and her bad luck at the box office, J. Lo might be feeling pretty bummed. What advice would you give her?

I don’t think anyone loses what they haven’t had, but on the opposite end, you can always find what you once had. Everything depends on the environment, and the environment has changed. Maybe people are asking for different kinds of music, maybe people want different kinds of talent. She’s so talented in so many ways, she just has to pick from whatever trend her audience wants right now and work on that. In order to do that, she needs to be very focused on what her goal is. She also needs to forget about all the negative and stay very positive.

A couple of years ago, J. Lo had twins. How can she balance her professional and personal lives?

She needs to understand that you can have it all but you can’t have it all at one time. She should look at what has worked over the course of her career and since she’s had children, and what hasn’t worked. She needs to go back what worked.

J. Lo is also famous for going through some pretty public breakups with past boyfriends, husbands and fiances, so the ongoing media attention on her marriage to Marc Anthony can’t be helping things. How should she deal with that?

I always say, let the past be the past. After a breakup, you should make a list of the good things you got out of the relationship. This will help you grow as a person and grow in your next relationship. She’ll also need this information to help her children go through these same things as they get older.

Music Career Advice For Jennifer Lopez

NOT that Jennifer needs our help — she was dropped by Sony after some poor album sales, but in a show of star power, she landed a deal with different label. Also, she’s a businesswoman, mother, etc.

But after discussing our collective dislike for her single “Louboutins,” we came up with an idea for a quickie cover she could churn out to make us forget that insipid song.

Think about it: What if she covered Beyonce’s “Halo” and changed the lyrics to substitute J.LO for HALO?

Genius, right? We’re not being sarcastic. We want to hear this single on the radio in two weeks. Go.

So, Jennifer Lopez’s record deal is no more (although there has been talk that she’s already signed with a new label, which she won’t name). If her recording career is truly over (we doubt it) what we’ll surely miss the most are the crazy outfits this girl likes to perform in all the time. She’s also been known to walk the red carpet in a few ridiculous get-ups, too. We get it — J likes to keep it sexy. But we’ve seen her be stylish and, dare we say, elegant at times. Still, there is plenty of photo evidence of her sartorial slip-ups over the years.
