“We do so many things unrelated to what people expect,” says Ken, who counts Jessica as the muse for his popular line of clip-in hair extensions.

The two co-star on VH1’s The Price Of Beauty, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m., wherein they scour the globe to explore how other cultures define attractiveness. During the season, the BFFs — who have spent 11 years together — travel to temples in Thailand and fashion runways in Paris, goofing off along the way. Another Jessica insider, CaCee Cobb, comes along for the ride. “We are all actually real friends and there is a depth to our relationship — and I don’t sit up all night brushing Jessica’s hair,” says Ken.

He doesn’t? Consider that myth debunked. Here are 8 other facts about Jessica, courtesy of Ken:

1. She loves vintage cars and when Ken drives fast — like 140 miles an hour fast. “She thinks it’s hot,” says Ken.
2. She and Ken read out loud together and take notes on their favorite passages. Their reading list includes The Art Of Happiness: A Handbook For Living by the Dalai Lama.
3. She likes to go hiking and do other outdoorsy things. “She’s daring, she’s funny, she’s a tomboy,” Ken gushes.
4. She can take a joke. Last week, Jessica — wearing glasses, her hair a lighter shade of brown — was approached by a woman in a bookstore who said, “You look like a smart version of Jessica Simpson.” She laughed and did not correct the woman, later posting this tongue-in-cheek photo on her Twitter.
5. She’s up for anything — like spending New Year’s on a tour bus along the California coast with Ken and his four dogs.
6. She’s resilient, and has no plans to leave showbusiness after the awful John Mayer-and-Mom Jeans-induced drama. Says Ken, “Here’s a girl who was attacked by the world for a picture — and nobody stood up for her.” That lack of sisterly love from the media and her peers furthered Jessica’s need to produce The Price Is Beauty.
7. She’s in a good place right now, really. “She’s become so powerful. She’s so happy with herself.”
8. She’s a good friend. “We go to each other for everything. … How many times DON’T we talk a day? We’re more like Avatar where we’re attached at the tail.”

Jessica seems to have already dealt with John’s remarks to Playboy. Should she do anything else at this point?

For one thing, if a guy ever talks about you in public that is immediate grounds for dismissal. That tells you that there are more than two people in this relationship: you, him and the rest of the world. Every time I hear him talking about her, I get furious. I don’t want to see any woman deal with that. It means he’s just thinking, ‘I’m John Mayer, I’m so sexy I can just tell anybody I want all about my conquests.’ I think she should have dealt with it just in the way that she did, by saying, ‘I don’t forgive him,’ and that’s the end of it.

Jessica and John have had an on and off relationship for a number of years. What should she do to finally, once and for all get over him?

I would tell her to make a list of the things that he’s done to hurt you and insult you and keep looking at that list and make sure you remember all the things he put you through. Put a weighted number on each thing he did, rank it 1 though 10. Then count up all these numbers and see how heavily these items weigh on you. If they weigh heavily, you know you’re being brought down. You need to understand that when a guy brags about how great he was in the sack with you, that’s only because he is insecure. Do you want to be with someone who is insecure and immature like that?

Why do women go back to men like John even if they are hurt by them?

They go back because they used to know that person and it’s a matter of feeling comfortable. A lot of people do things out of comfort.

What should Jessica look for in a guy moving forward?

She should be with someone who honors her and respects her and doesn’t bring her down.

It seems to us that Jessica might have a hard time trusting the next guy she dates, especially if it’s someone else in the public eye. Do you have any advice for her?

Trust is a very hard thing to build. I suggest to everybody: do not rush into any relationship. You have to build that relationship over time. You have to decide where you want the relationship to go, and how much you want to share of yourself, and that takes time.

Unfortunately, whatever Jess decides to do with her relationships in the future, it will be a very public ordeal. Should she handle it any differently because of that?

Yes. It’s different because she’s not just Jessie Q. Public. She’s somebody who some bloggers will want to use for their own benefit. She should be on guard. I always use the saying, ‘Trust in God, but tie up your camels.’ That means that you should trust to a point, but keep looking over your shoulder to see what’s going on.

In an interview I did with Jeremy several months ago, he gushed for what seemed like a good five minutes about Macallan, an aspiring actress (“she’s like me with boobs,” he said).

Fast-forward several days until to the Oscars, and Jeremy is a single man (and hot commodity). If he’s looking for another relationship, Jessica  just might be the girl: She is blonde, and he seems to prefer blondes. She is a strong-willed first-born, and so is he. And from a cynical PR standpoint, dating someone more famous than he is (that would be Jessica) is not a bad idea in order to keep his name in the spotlight;  if they click romantically, hey, even better. (Apologies, Conan, I’ll stop being so cynical now.)

So yes: Jeremy and Jessica should get together. It would be a win-win situation. As my colleague said today, “I feel bad for her.” There ’s Jessica — publicly humiliated by John Mayer, unfairly slammed for her so-called weight issues, managed by an infamous stage dad — and there’s Jeremy, who might just be the real man she needs in her life.

And while Jessica has a history of changing her looks for a guy (aka, dyeing her hair brown in her Mayer days), she wouldn’t need to alter a thing for Jeremy. They look like brother and sister — or he looks like he could be Papa Joe’s studlier younger brother.

Back at the beginning of this century, Jessica was a sweet, virginal pop star with bleached blond hair, a phenomenal voice and a killer rack. In 2002, she married sweetheart and fellow pop star Nick Lachey and put Chicken of the Sea on the map with their reality show Newlyweds. But three years later the two split, and five years after that Jess’s name has become synonymous with being dumb, up and down weight gain and now, thanks to John Mayer, being very, very good in bed.

John and Jessica have had an on and off relationship since they started dating in 2006. John may have claimed that Jessica was his drug, but after their break-up after a year of dating, she sure seemed to be hooked on him. She kept going back to him, and each and every time it would end up in the press. John is not a discrete guy.

Back in May 2007 when news of their split first broke, a source told People, “They have broken up. But they have broken up and gotten back together at least 10 times before.” A few months later, Gawker caught Jess leaving John’s NYC apartment. There were also rumors that Jessica was stalking John, and in 2008 he wrote a message on his blog to an “Ex Lover” who many thought was her. “Perhaps you didn’t understand the last time I told you to stop contacting me, so I’ll do my best to spell it out for you,” he wrote. “I do not wish to have you in my life anymore.”

But apparently that humiliation wasn’t enough for Jessica to just write off this jerk. Last year, her relationship with Tony Romo endedthe night before her big birthday party, reportedly because he found texts from John on her phone. What followed was, of course, more rumors about a reunion with John. Ew.

Hopefully, Jessica has finally learned her lesson and she is cutting all ties with loose-lipped John. Maybe Oprah will make her promise to stay away.

Over the weekend, OK! magazine reported that Jessica Simpson’s poppa Joe had words with John, defending his daughter against the singer’s description of her as “sexual napalm,” among other things.

Joe called John and told him “to stay away from his family and man-up and apologize for his comments,” a source told the magazine. Thankfully, the source (aka Joe Simpson) added that John did actually try to apologize — perhaps finally realizing the error of his ways. But will he finally just keep his mouth shut for future interviews?
