“State of Liberty” is apparently Marc’s pet name for Shannon, since she’s “freed” him from his past relationships. Marc first announced that he was dating Shannon in the first week of January; the tattoo session happened over New Year’s Eve in Miami. In addition, Marc and daughter Ariana (from a relationship with an NYC police officer named Debbie Rosado) got matching tattoos on their outer wrists. It isn’t clear what the tattoo says, though it’s probably a line of text, judging from the photos:

Despite this very public dis of his ex, the New York Daily News points out that Marc and Jennifer seem to be on good terms: They’ve agreed to still work together on the talent competition Q’Viva! The Chosen. In fact, at a recent screening of the premiere episode, Jennifer joked that their current working relationship was “very Sonny and Cher after divorce.”

Barnabas Collins, the vampire he’ll be playing in Dark Shadows is making me long for vampires that sparkle, but reminding me of the first time I tried to put on eyeshadow. It would be better if Depp looked menacing or sinister, but those weird Gothic Beiber bangs coupled with his sense of wonder at the sight of his brand new press on nails just makes him look kind of sad. An overgrown vampire toddler.

I have high hopes for Dark Shadows as a film. It co-stars Chloë Grace Moretz, who seems to be getting better with every role, and the triad of Depp, Bonham Carter, and Burton keepz pushing out classic cob-web strewn films. I just don’t know if I can take that face on a fifty foot screen.

Even though NBC promoted Ricky Gervais as “the host we can’t control,” the Hollywood Foreign Press Association clearly dictated that Gervais’ Golden Globes monologue (and other jokes) would be markedly less mean-spirited than last year. Instead of making the awards show a cringefest by attacking nominees with too-true jokes, he went for easy targets. And honestly, we liked it. Some highlights from his opening speech:

• “So… where was I? Nervous? Don’t be. This isn’t about you.”
• “You get Britain’s biggest comedian, hosting the second-biggest awards show on America’s third biggest network. It’s four? It’s fourth.”
• “For those of you who don’t know, the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars—without all that esteem. The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton. Bit louder, bit trashier, bit drunker, and more easily bought… allegedly, nothing’s been proved.”
• “[Eddie Murphy] walked away from the Oscars, and good for him. But when the man who said yes to Norbit says no to you, you know you’re in trouble.”
• “Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler, between the two of them, played all the parts in The Help.”
• “[The Hollywood Foreign Press] actually gave me a list of rules… No profanity; that’s fine, I’ve got a huge vocabulary. No nudity; see, that’s a shame ’cause I’ve got a huge… vocabulary, but a tiny penis. No smut or innuendo, and I’m not to libel anyone. And I mustn’t mention Mel Gibson this year: Not his private life, his politics, his recent films, and especially nto Jodie Foster‘s beaver. I haven’t seen it myself. • “A marriage that lasted 72 days… I’ve sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches!”

Our favorite joke might’ve been his smirking jab at Johnny Depp when he asked if Johnny — who had fallen so low that he had to work with Gervais on the reality show Life’s Too Short – if he had seen his own lackluster film The Tourist. Johnny’s response? “Uh, no.” Zing!

Something Ricky does well is incite celebrities to try their hand at equally biting retorts. Some of our favorites included Antonio Banderas‘ rapidfire Spanish rant — we’re trying to track down a translation — and this gem from Best Song winner Madonna:

If I’m still just like a virgin, Ricky, why don’t you come over here and do something about it? I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years…on TV.”

It seemed as if 2012 has a humbler, but still smirking, Ricky Gervais. We’ll be curious to see if the HFPA thinks his barbs this year were acceptable enough to make 2013 his fourth year of hosting.

Alice in Wonderland. Nine. Little Women. Married to the Mob. Edward Scissorhands. These are just a few of the projects that Colleen Atwood has made even more memorable via her wildly creative eye and skilled hand. As of late October, you could check out her latest work in the The Rum Diary, a riotous big-screen version of the Hunter S. Thompson novel set in Cuba circa 1960, starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Read on to hear what Atwood (who is currently putting the finishing costume touches on the lavish Snow White and The Huntsman, out next year) had to say about dressing such horrible eyesores…

1. Amber Heard’s character Chenault is so chic. What inspired her look?

We started with that glamorous late ’50s early ’60s style, which is so classic and perfect for her. I love the old Irving Penn photographs from that period. The world that I surrounded Amber with was a huge contrast to her because it was more of the Eisenhower ’50s and she was sort of the future: a bit cleaner, chicer lines, more modern. I loved that everyone was sweaty and wilted except her and few of the extremely wealthy people that had constant AC. She’s stunning, and she wears clothes exceptionally well, so it was a treat to get to dress her.

2. How did you approach Johnny’s character?

For menswear, it’s a really great period. The suits fit all kinds of body types and, without being too fitted at the waist, still have a shape. A narrow lapel has always been a favorite of mine. In Johnny’s case, we kept it very simple. His character has a slightly Midwestern meets southern style that is very American and not at all European. His clothes are fairly stiff, but they kind of wilt in the heat, so it feels more relaxed. His stuff was all made out of this ’60s cotton. I found enough of it to make all of his trousers and suits. I was able to find some authentic fabrics for his clothes which helped him get into the feeling of the period.

3. Does he have a real point-of-view when it comes to his character’s clothing?

He’s not really dogmatic about. He really feels clothes more than he looks at them. You know, we had these great sunglasses for him and his hair was kind of squished back and the guy came to life! It usually happens pretty quickly with Johnny. He has this feeling for who his character is.

4. I imagine that you had a smaller budget with this film than a lot of the others you’ve worked on. Were you restricted in any way?

It was a really tight budget, so we used things over and over, like in the crowd shots. Amber didn’t have a lot of clothes so were able to create all of her clothes. Luckily, I had a lot of old fabrics that I had saved over the years and I was able to use a few of them in the movie. Her white lace dress was a fabric that I’d been hoarding for a few years, and the red chiffon dress was a piece of chiffon—just the most perfect red—that I hadn’t done anything with yet.

5. Do you have a closet packed with fabric?

No, I’m a minimalist so I have a nice storage space. I don’t like all that stuff around my house. When I go home I have a really Zen house.

6. In terms of your own personal style, what do you like to wear?

My favorite thing to wear is pajamas.

7. Apparently pajama pants are back right now, so maybe you’re in style?

Yeah, really. That’s my big treat, to wear pajamas for a whole day. It’s like my dream.

Whether or not Johnny’s sorry isn’t really the issue. What’s worrisome here is the fact that the word “rape” has become synonymous with the word “violate” — to the point that people in the public eye who should know better are regularly making comments that trivialize sexual assault. (Kristen Stewart said something similar not long ago.)

Sure, being photographed by the paparazzi must suck, but it’s not the same thing as rape, so knock it the heck off, famous people.

Johnny Depp looks nearly unrecognizable in this photo taken on the set of his new flick Dark Shadows. Still beautiful (pale faces and blood? Swoon), but unrecognizable. Here, he vamps it up next to director Tim Burton, who appears to be giving him some pretty intense notes. “More Skarsgard, less Pattinson.”

We brought you some first-look images from the film a week ago, but here Barnabas Collins (I’m naming my next pet that) has gotten less goofy and more traditionally vampiric. The movie is filming now and is slated for release on May 11, 2012, so I’m sure plenty more Johnny-as-Barnabas images are on their way. I will draw little hearts on all of them.

Did you guys ever watch Dark Shadows? I sure did. Dark Shadows remains, to this very day, the only soap opera that I have ever watched with any sort of regularity. Though it originally aired on ABC before I was born– its heyday was from 1966 to 1971– the Sci-Fi Channel (before it got all hoity-toity and started calling itself SyFy) used to show it regularly when I was a kid. Though part of the draw of the show was that it had been taped live, enabling eagle-eyed viewers to spot actors breaking character and laughing on occasion, its primary sell was its subject matter: It focused on the spooky and the supernatural. And guess what? Spooky and supernatural director Tim Burton is currently in the process of remaking Dark Shadows as a film! Even better, we’ve got first look photos of the film and its star– Johnny Depp, naturally– right here for your viewing pleasure!

Much of Dark Shadows revolves around a vampire named Barnabas Collins, an 18th century vampire who wakes up after one helluva long nap to find himself in the 20th century, so of course Tim Burton would cast his go-to guy, Johnny Depp, in the role. Shooting began in the UK in May; lately, they’ve been hanging out in Devon by the seashore. The Daily What Geek found these four images, as well as the one up at the top of the page:

That whole green and purple ensemble Mr. Depp has going on here is making Barnabas look a tad Joker-esque, but given that it’s for a Tim Burton flick, maybe I shouldn’t be quite so surprised about that. That’s human governess Victoria Winters as played by Australian actress Bella Heathcote next to him, by the way.

I think that’s a crew person adjusting his spats? Maybe?
