Jonah — who’s wearing his indie-actor hat in the dark comedy Cyrus — tells Rolling Stone the story behind the scar:

When Hill was in middle school, his mom was battling cancer. Convinced that she was going to die, he started acting out (she’s since made a full recovery). He took up skateboarding, started smoking weed. His grades were bad. “I was, like, not a good kid,” he says.

Hill was 15 when it all came to a head. He and a friend snuck out one night in an SUV. Hill stuck his elbow out the open window as they headed into the night, and his friend started turning the wheel back and forth, joking around. The car flipped over, skidded along the road and dragged Hill’s arm with it.

Hill woke up in the hospital, and he heard two doctors discussing whether or not to amputate his arm. At the same time, he saw his dad and ailing mom crying. “I said to myself, ‘I’ll never let them down ever again.’ I said, ‘I’m going to be fuckin’ successful. I’m going to resurrect what I put these people through by being a little asshole.’ So I look at this scar every day. That reminds me to work hard.”

That sounds less like a scar than a badge of honor! Well played, Jonah. That is an awesome scar story. Oh, we neglected to mention another hot one: Luke Perry’s eyebrow scar, which he allegedly got while running into a soda machine at a bowling alley when he was a kid. That’s in our top five.

How Jonah Hill Got The Nasty Scar On His Right Arm

Welcome to Crush This, your weekly guide to what’s new in movies, music and TV. We’ve navigated the inner reaches of our entertainment-obsessed brains in search of all the pop culture landscape has to offer. This week, we recommend that you branch out and check out the latest new music fixes: both Drake and Sarah McLachlan are putting out albums this week.

Movies: If you’ve already gotten your fix of The A-Team and Karate Kid, this week you can check out Josh Brolin and Megan Fox in Western action flick Jonah Hex or satisfy your inner child with Toy Story 3. For more indie fare, you might prefer Cyrus, with John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill.

Television: Ready for more new summer shows? Hot in Cleveland, featuring Betty White, premieres Wednesday night on TV Land, Bravo’s new reality show featuring celebrity photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani, Double Exposure debuts on Tuesday, and ABC has an all new Sunday night with Scoundrels and The Gates. Also on Sunday, The Real L Word on Showtime.

There are also plenty of returning series debuting new seasons this week, including Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List on Tuesday and Top Chef: Washington, D.C. on Wednesday on Bravo, and Leverage on TNT on Sunday. And if you’re a Jonas Brothers fan, don’t miss the season premiere of their newly named show, Jonas L.A. on Sunday on the Disney Channel.

Music: Canadian rapper Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later is officially out on Tuesday and ready for public consumption. Pick it up, if you haven’t already gotten your hands on the leaked version. Sarah McLachlan is also back with her first new music in seven years, Laws of Illusion, also out Tuesday.

Crush This: Drake's Album Is Finally Here, And The Jonas Brothers Return With 'Jonas L.A.'

First of all, we’ve seen most, if not all of this, before. The skinny, nerdy R.J. (Paul Iacono) is a typical high school misfit with a passion for anime, dragons and all things generally uncool. Think Napoleon Dynamite meets Michael Cera meets McLovin. R.J’s bromance with his chubby best friend Miles (Jareb Dauplaise) seems like a Superbad ripoff, but Miles is nowhere near as endearing a wingman as Jonah Hill.

Aside from being mostly unfunny, some scenes just make you want to cringe. Like when R.J.’s mother walks in on him with a bottle of lotion, tissues and a drawing of an anime chick (you get the idea) and hovers over him for a minute or so before realizing what was going on under the covers. Oh, and then she recounts the story at a dinner party! While R.J. is still sort of in the room!

And finally, the show is kind of racist! When R.J. recounts his exploits with a Japanese girl at school, Miles tells him “the Japanese mouth isn’t designed to handle that kind of size” and then makes an off-color joke about egg rolls. First of all, ew. And second, we’re pretty sure egg rolls are typically a Chinese food, not Japanese.

The central theme of the show, of course, is that R.J. is lucky below the belt in a “you know what they say about big feet” kind of way. There should be lots to work with here comically, but the writing left something to be desired. For example, when R.J. scores an invite to an “it” girl’s pool party, a fellow partygoer asks him to help her pump the keg. When he’s too weak to do it, she smirks, “Why don’t you push it with your dick?” Huh? Is that really the best you can do, MTV?

Finally, though R.J. proclaims himself a skinny, pale nerd — we think he’s totally cute! And we suspect lots of girls do too.

Maybe MTV, which we laud for its sickeningly addictive reality shows, should stick to what it knows and continue to bask in all that unscripted glory.

140 Character Movie Review: 'Get Him To The Greek'

“I haven’t read a script yet, but it’s something we’re all talk about,” Jonah tells Crushable. “I haven’t read the script yet.”

Zoolander 2 will be the follow-up to the 2001 cult movie classic, which did not fare well at the box office but became a blockbuster on DVD. Justin Theroux will direct and co-write with Ben, who’s “a hero of mine,” says Jonah.

Jonah talked with reporters Thursday to promote his new movie Cyrus, a dark comedy co-starring John C. Reilly and Marisa Tomei. He plays a troubled 21-year-old named Cyrus, who is severely attached to his mother (Marisa) and tries to sabotage her relationship with a new boyfriend played by John.

Does he, um, share his character’s Oedipus complex?

“I’m very close to my family, fortunately not in an unhealthy way,” he jokes. “The way I kind of approached (the role) was if someone was moving in on my girlfriend. I treated Marisa like she was my wife.”

The 26-year-old actor does have his awkward familial moments, though: He says his girlfriend’s brother is also named Jonah, which makes it weird when she calls out his name during sex.  (That was a joke, he says –half-jokingly).

Cyrus opens in limited release on June 18, on the heels of Jonah’s other new movie Get Him To The Greek, where he plays straight man to Russell Brand’s eccentric rock star.

Jonah is now working on his latest project, the baseball-themed drama Moneyball, Brad Pitt and Philip Seymour Hoffman. He says he got a gig on that movie after filmmakers saw Cyrus, which he loves for being  “raw and honest and heartbreaking.”

When the Superbad star’s parents saw the low-budget movie (directed by Mark and Jay Duplass), “It was the first time they couldn’t recognize any of me in the character I was playing. I thought that was very touching.”
