What would a Jonas Brothers soundtrack sound like?
“Yesterday” – The Beatles, “I Don’t Want to go to Chelsea” – Elvis Costello, “Kiss” – Prince. “Unchained” – Johnny Cash, “Purple Haze” – Jimmy Hendrix.

What’s your motto for life?
“…Live like you’re at the bottom, even if you’re at the top…”

What’s the key to your success?
The awesome connection we have with our fans!

What’s the coolest thing about being muso-boys?
That we get to play rock & roll music for a job, it’s the best thing.

What’s a typical day in the life of The Jonas Brothers right now?
We wake up early, do radio interviews, then some more interviews either in person or over the phone, then a meet & greet with fans, then sound check & then play a show! We then drive to the next city & do it all over again!

What advice would you give to would-be music makers?
Keep up the hard work and keep on practicing. The music business is hard and lots of work, but it’s worth every minute of it!

I’ve really always wanted to know what makes you guys so strong that you guys never have a fight between each other?

Nick: It really comes down to being raised in a good home where our parents taught us respect for the people around you. So, we’ve always grown up with that rule, and it really has helped us as a group and as brothers.

Kevin: I think it’s always been like that. Growing up, all of our lives, we’ve had a great connection like that. But, working together constantly and doing what we love has definitely helped. It’s amazing.

How have your personalities changed?

Joe: I think it definitely makes you more outgoing. We were kind of outgoing guys from the start, and we just like to have fun. I think doing this really helps us be who we are on stage. It’s cool when you’re hearing your music and your songs, and people come out to see it. It’s really cool, definitely.

Do you guys ever play pranks on each other?

Nick: We don’t really play too many pranks on each other, but we have played a couple pranks to our band and some of the bands that we play with on tour. One of the things I did was— well, our guitar player’s bunk was full of all this stuff, so I rearranged it all and put all these pop star magazines and pictures up in his bunk. He wasn’t too happy about that, but it was pretty funny.

Kevin: Yeah, and the next day, Nick rearranged everything again, and since our guitar player is a huge Red Sox fan, Nick got everything out of there and put in all Yankees stuff.

If you could have lunch with anyone past or present, who would it be?

Nick: Elvis Costello.

Kevin: Prince.

Joe: I’d pick John Lennon.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Joe: I’d say Europe, actually, because we’ve never been there. But, we’re going to Europe in about a week and a half, so we’re really pumped.

Who is When You Look Me in the Eyes written for?

Nick: When You Look Me in the Eyes was actually on my original solo project, and it really wasn’t written about anyone in particular. I think everyone has that person who they kind of feel that way about. And, when we wrote it, it wasn’t about anyone specific—just a song we wanted to write. And, fans really love it, so it’s cool to play every night.

What can you tell us about Camp Rock and your new album that we’re all dying to get?

Joe: We’ve got upcoming projects that we’re really excited about. Camp Rock is coming out in June, which is really exciting. Our next album is coming out in August. Camp Rock was great. We had a great time, the cast was amazing, and being up in Canada was really cool—we enjoyed it. We just can’t wait for everyone to see it.

Kevin: Of course, we’re going on our new Burning Up Tour this summer. Tickets go on sale March 29th, so that’s pretty awesome. We’re really pumped about everything.

Q: Did Miley Cyrus offer any advice on headlining an arena full of screaming fans?

Kevin: That show, playing the arenas, was a dream come true. We’ve been touring for two-and-a-half years now — playing every little rock ‘n’ roll club across America, to playing the arenas in those cities, to now going back and playing them by ourselves. It’s more than we could have ever asked for.

Q: Are you ready for the inevitable onslaught?

Joe: I really don’t know what to expect. This next tour is going to be very interesting. The first leg sold out, and we’re completely surprised and shocked.

Kevin: Day in and day out, we’re always freaking out. We always hoped, but we never really expected that we would be able to be in a place where we could do those things. It’s unbelievably awesome.

Q: What’s been the craziest fan moment to date?

Joe: We’ve had some crazy ones, people throwing articles of clothing on the stage. Ellen was crazy. So many fans came to the studio. We were doing one shot where they were all behind us. They all just jumped on the couches, and moved the couches, like, five feet. They were all trying to get to us. We were like, ‘Whoa! Whoa!’

Q: People are standing in lines for hours for tickets. Would any artist inspire you to such lengths?

Joe: Spice Girls — all day. I would go see the Spice Girls. I would stand in line for, like, three weeks. Or, like, an hour. I would totally love to go see that concert. I’m just sayin’.

Kevin: I would have to say probably the Police reunion. I really wanted to go see it. I didn’t get a chance. I think I would have waited for some tickets for them, for sure.

Q: Your Houston show is on Valentine’s Day. How will you make it special?

Kevin: We’ll try to make it as romantic as possible — as romantic as a rock ‘n’ roll show can be. It’s always so much fun to perform on Valentine’s Day. It becomes a whole other kind of thing — like, ‘Wow.’ I would have never probably gone to a concert on Valentine’s Day, but it’s such a cool thing to do.

Q: Does the concert ruin any personal Valentine’s Day plans?

Joe: I kind of hate Valentine’s Day. I’ve had a bad record. There was this girl I liked a lot, and I was going to try to surprise her on Valentine’s Day. I had it all set up. I was going to secretly go to her school and get her a single rose and be like, ‘Will you be my Valentine?’ in front of all of her friends.

The night before, I made the wrong decision of acting like there was something wrong on the phone. I was trying to play it up. It was a bad idea. The next day, in the morning, she broke it off. I was younger. Girls were a little dumber, too.

Q: What are the benefits of being in a band of brothers?

Joe: If something’s wrong with you or you’re just having a bad day, you know that your brothers are there for you. Any brother will be there for you. That’s really cool. We really rarely fight because we get along so well. We have so much fun onstage, and we have a whole different respect for each other onstage.

Kevin: People are kind of freaked out when we actually don’t fight. We actually do hang out and laugh together and joke around. We have a really good dynamic as three of us, and as a family, and as a team. It’s pretty awesome.

Q: Has music always been a family affair?

Joe: We kind of always grew up into music and making music with my dad. He was part of record labels and things like that. My mom’s an amazing singer. We kind of grew into it.

I still wonder what kind of music my dad was playing to us when we were in my mom’s belly. I wonder what were the influences back then.

Q: What’s currently on your iPod?

Kevin: I love the Band of Horses record. The Beatles and Switchfoot, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Eric Hutchinson, Johnny Cash, Rooney.

I got this Sia record (Some People Have Real Problems), and I was like, ‘Joe and Nick, you guys have got to get it.’ They both got it on their iTunes. We’re very much into paying for the music and not sharing it.

Q: Talk a bit about the Jonas style — blazers, skinny ties and sparkly shoes. Is that pure stagewear or personal style, too?

Kevin: You totally would see us in things like that when we’re not onstage. Even right now, we’re just in regular clothes, but it’s not regular clothes. Joe’s in, like, a blazer and tie, and I’m in a vest.

We like to dress up, and that was part of our goal. We always said we wanted to bring some high fashion back to rock ‘n’ roll.

Q: What’s the new album going to be like?

Joe: We actually made it on a bus, on the road, with us. We changed out a bus and built in a recording studio and made 10 songs. We went back into a (proper) studio to make tweaks and finish up little things. That was really, really awesome.

It’s the same old Jonas Brothers, but I think we’ve explored deeper lyrical content and also deeper melodies and chord structures. We just wanted to expand our horizons. I just played a mandolin on this song the other day.
