What is it about romantic movies that have us dragging our friends and loved ones to the theaters, renting them off Netflix, and wearing out the DVDs with repeat viewings? These tales of star-crossed lovers — or best friends whose affection grows into something deeper — give us hope that we can have it, too. Not the kidnappings, letters from the grave, or time travel (though those would be fun), but the enduring, can’t-be-without-you love that powers each of the outlandish plots that we adore.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, here’s a list of our picks for the Most Romantic Movies Of Our Time. For the most part, I tried to pick more recognizable romantic comedies and dramas from the ’90s and ’00s, but there are a few ’80s stragglers. (I promise they’re worth it.) More »
It’s so difficult to make a self-aware medieval comedy. For the best success, you go with low-key humor like in the classic The Princess Bride. But many studios today want jokes that are circa 2011 (never mind that they’ll be dated later) or so much slapstick that the characters’ nuances get lost for a cheap laugh. The Shrek movies excelled at this, but their live-action counterparts have mostly failed: Ella Enchanted, Your Highness, Black Knight. More »

The following is a guest post from our friends at Luckymag.com.
Zombies are scary. And as fierce mom Lori Grimes on The Walking Dead, actress Sarah Wayne Callies spends the bulk of her time battling the undead in the backwoods to keep her family alive. Suffice it to say, the show doesn’t give her much opportunity to glam up—mascara is obviously a pre-Zombie epidemic luxury. “I get the backhanded compliment a lot,” she says. “When people meet me they’re like, ‘oh, you’re actually not bad.’” More »
It’s unclear when Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai was voted the world’s most beautiful woman, only that she is. There was no formal consensus, just an overwhelming majority on websites and Internet polls—that, and America’s sweetheart Julia Roberts once describing her as “the most beautiful woman in the world, more beautiful than any Hollywood actress.” But if you’re still unconvinced, here’s proof of the 38-year-old star’s beauty. For reasons not yet known to us, RHONJ star Melissa Gorga put on a 300-pound fat suit for an Entertainment Tonight segment. And she’s not alone. Here are 8 other actresses or TV personalities who have donned the fake poundage for movies or social experiments–usually with really negative results. More »
EW released the newest photos from The Brothers Grimm: Snow White – starring Lily Collins and Armie Hammer – today, and while they’re very pretty, we can’t tell who the intended audience is. Compared to Kristen Stewart‘s gritty reimagining Snow White and the Huntsman, this movie has bright colors and over-the-top costumes. So is it just a live-action version of the 1937 Disney movie, or will it have sly jokes for people our age?

Not being famous, perhaps I wouldn’t know this, but to my way of thinking, the absolute worst thing about being famous has got to be dealing with the paparazzi. Sure, when you live a public life, photographers are always going to be an issue, but I still feel bad for actors, musicians, artists, etc. who get hounded all the time for no other reason than that they happen to make a living in the entertainment industry. But celebs aren’t always victims; occasionally, they fight back! Sometimes the attacks more warranted than others, but either way, they make for interesting tabloid fodder. Actually, here’s a question for you: If a celeb is busy attacking a photographer snapping pictures of the celebrity’s everyday life, what does that make the photographer who’s snapping pictures of the incident? Food for thought… More »
Severus Snape? Alan Rickman. Marty McFly? Michael J. Fox. Vivian Ward? Julia Roberts. We all know and love these characters, and their actors’ portrayals of them were so perfect, it can be hard to imagine anyone else playing them. But guess what? If things had gone a little differently, Alan Rickman might not have landed Snape, Michael J. Fox may not have donned Marty’s orange vest, and Julia Roberts may not have become one of the world’s most well-known prostitutes. That’s right: Each of these characters were originally pitched to different actors, and in some cases, were even recast midway through shooting. What other iconic characters might have ended up being played by totally different actors? Read on to find out! More »

Relativity Media has added two more actors to its already impressive cast for its yet-to-be-titled Snow White film. I make the distinction because Universal is also adapting the famous fairy tale, starring Kristen Stewart. Relativity’s version, described as an “adventure comedy,” already has Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, and Armie Hammer as (respectively) Snow White, the evil queen, and Prince Alcott. Now, Nathan Lane will play the queen’s servant Brighton, and up-and-coming theater star Robert Emms will play Alcott’s valet Renbock. More »
