Here we were about to give you the benefit of the doubt that you were less annoying than your Killer co-star Katherine Heigl, but that’s before we saw this preview of you on Lopez Tonight, taking pot shots at Heidi Montag.

Come on man, that’s just an easy target, and (although you couldn’t have known this at the time), she just separated from her husband. We think a public apology may be in order.

What’s so interesting to us is that they irritate in different ways: Katherine comes off in the press like an ungrateful b-word who trash-talks her own vehicles, while Ashton is just…Ashton, tweeting his way into whatever techno-craze is currently zeitgeisting (though if he manages to clean up that oil spill we might actually forgive his faults).

Still though, bring the two together in a cage match and we’d pay to see who comes up the winner.

Everyone wants a piece of you, which means that the paparazzi follow you around. That's just what you get for being talented and beautiful. But that doesn't stop many celebrities from complaining about what a pain in the ass celebrity can be sometimes. And whether they are saying it outright or offhandedly we can't help but think that maybe these celebs are being a little ungrateful for the fame we've lavished upon them. Everyone wants a piece of you, which means that the paparazzi follow you around. Such is the price of fame! But that doesn’t keep many celebrities from complaining about what a pain in the ass celebrity can be sometimes. And whether they are saying it outright or offhandedly (or publish the phone number of a journalist in retaliation, ahem, M.I.A.), we can’t help but think that maybe these celebs are being a little negativo about the fame lavished upon them. Hey, no matter how annoying and exhausting it is to be you, at least you’re not working 9 to 5 at McDonald’s earning minimum wage.

Here, we’ve compiled some of the biggest complaining offenders. Suck it up stars!

1. Kristen Stewart
K-Stew is just starting the promotional trail for Eclipse and she’s already come out with this anti-paparazzi tirade: “I feel like I’m looking at someone being raped..A lot of the time I can’t handle it. It’s f**ked. I never expected that this would be my life.”

2. John Mayer
Before his scandalous Playboy article, before he left Twitter, John wrote a decent blog post about how the paparazzi antagonizes celebs as they come off planes, in order to get a good photo or bit of film. “The fact that [airline] passenger lists are not available to the general public means that anyone waiting at the airport with any more than the CD from the passenger seat of their car has gotten word of which celebrities will be traveling through the terminal in the same way the paparazzi do,” John explained. “In some cases, these ‘fans’ are working in concert with them. After all, it’s a great way to get a celebrity to interact with you on video if you can ask them impolite questions while they’re stopping to sign a few items for someone.”

We’ve navigated the inner reaches of our entertainment-obsessed brains in search of all the pop culture landscape has to offer. On deck this week: a slew of new TV show premieres, from reality shows like Dad Camp and Downtown Girls to the second seasons of Drop Dead Diva and Royal Pains, along with fun summer movies.

Movies: We’ve been waiting for Russell Brand and Jonah Hill in Get Him To The Greek (you can win a movie-related prize pack, too) and it opens this Friday. But high stakes rom-com Killers with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher also opens that same day. Which will we choose?

Also on Friday — Colin Farrell’s mermaid fairytale Ondine. Enticing.

The logic is that McAdams is “not only likable and charming, but also extremely bankable.” Which sure, is true. I mean, that’s also a very short list. We have McAdams and Katherine Heigl, and the latter is thought of as kind of a bitch. But what about Zooey Deschanel? Too sarcastic? Kristen Bell? Kirsten Dunst? Or maybe McAdams’ Mean Girls costar, Amanda Seyfried? The point here is that there is a generational difference between the people who went to see movies because there were “nice” girls in it…the young stars of today are either train wrecks (ala Lohan) or are indie kids who we love for their snarkiness (Kat Dennings, Chloe Sevigny, Evan Rachel Wood). Maybe we don’t need a next America’s Sweetheart, because we grew up on Winona, not Julia.

Oh, yay. As if suffering through the big-screen treatment of He’s Just Not That Into You wasn’t enough, now Summit Entertainment — the studio behind the Twilight movies — has snapped up the rights to a film version of the dated ’90s self-help guide Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

There’s, like, 17 different things wrong with this aquisition. Such as:n

This book was hot in 1992. Like the scrunchie, we do not want.

Rom-coms like He’s Just Not That Into You and The Ugly Truth exploit women’s insecurities about finding love to sell movie tickets — the ugly truth? Those movies are really shitty and produced by men who have no clue what women want. You know what we want? More Prada. Devil Wears Prada, that is. You know, something critically acclaimed that respects women and doesn’t shoot them down.

You know what we also want? More Hurt Locker, less Katherine Heigl fulfilling gender stereotypes of women as shrill harpies who must defer to men in order to get married or something. But that’s been around since Pygmalion, yo.

Matthew McConaughey will probably star.

So will Justin Long, who has NO right not to be into Ginnifer Goodwin, OK?

Filmmakers are citing He’s Just Not That Into You as inspiration. Not a good sign.

Anyways, this project stands to make Mars author John Gray even richer than he is now. Because there’s always room for lame rom-coms, if Julia Roberts agrees to make a 10-minute cameo.

But funny, this: After years of sticking to her guns and refusing to apologize for speaking her truth — whether that be badmouthing Judd Apatow or the Grey’s Anatomy writing team — Katherine Heigl says, “I’m sorry.” And she does it in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, which was more than happy to give her a platform for some strategic image rehauling.

Is this an act of faux sincerity? And will such a grand PR gesture win over the skeptical masses and revive Heigl’s downwardly spiraling career?

Heigl and her team are probably hoping, fingers crossed. The actress’ popularity took a downtown after she won an Emmy for Grey’s and proved her box-office, rom-com mettle with Knocked Up followed by 27 Dresses. Perhaps she felt bolstered by new success — invincible even — but audiences are quick to turn against outspoken women who don’t play nice. On the contrary, Sean Penn still gets to make movies and sometimes people see them.

I wrote an article on this back in 2008, but it still stands up now that her movie career is stagnant, her TV arc over and her critics loud as ever. An excerpt:

When Katherine Heigl opens her mouth, people listen. They don’t always like what they hear.

If the media loves a celebrity lightning rod, then Heigl certainly delivers the goods. The Emmy-winning actress has taken heat for her blunt public comments and doesn’t seem to give two winks.

According to her detractors, the “Grey’s Anatomy” star’s outre behavior includes: demanding a higher salary in contract negotiations with ABC; slamming the megahit comedy “Knocked Up,” in which she starred with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd, as “a little sexist” in painting women as “humorless and uptight” and men as “lovable, goofy”; and, recently, refusing to seek an Emmy nomination because “Grey’s” writers failed to deliver the goods for an awards-worthy performance.

At times, Heigl comes off like a reality show contestant who says, “I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to win.” That attitude, as any avid viewer of shows from “Survivor” to “The Bachelor” would agree, wins few allies on the island (or in the mansion), but it sure makes for good TV.

But in a world of bland, media-trained celebs, is it such a bad thing to speak your mind?

Turns out, it is — at least for Heigl. She dyed her hair brown and has been popping up (and out) with more frequency and now on EW’s cover. But Hollywood and moviegoers at large have less tolerance for stars they don’t like, no matter how interesting said star is and especially if they are female (this sucks, but sexism and age-ism and everything I hate is alive and well and Heigl riles people up). Exceptions are Tom Cruise, whose hilarious self-mockery in Tropic Thunder helped rebrand his image and proved he can roll with the punches.

Can Heigl do the same? She might as well try, since she has nothing to lose.

The actress has been away on maternity leave for the past several months, and apparently has not returned to set to film the final five episodes of the season. Most likely, she won’t, meaning her final episode has probably already aired.

What do you think about the Grey’s news? Is it any surprise that Katherine is leaving? Are you sad she won’t be back so her character gets a proper goodbye?
