Yes, Kirstie Alley, we could all tell you’re getting your hair done because you’re tweeting “like a crack whore.” How do crack whores tweet, though? Well: generally not at all. Or in exchange for crack. And definitely never, ever, ever while getting their hair done. Unless, they have been hired to tweet about getting their hair done in exchange for crack. Yes, that must be exactly what Kirstie’s talking about. More »
Goodbye, season 12 of Dancing with the Stars. Last night’s finale had some really great moments, but ultimately the heavily favored Hines Ward and Kym Johnson walked away with the mirrorball trophy. His win may not have been a huge surprise, but Kirstie Alley‘s second place finish sure was. The whole season, Kirstie was adored by the audience but not by the judges. But her freestyle dance was exuberant – she did a cartwheel! – and she finally got her first perfect score from the judges. The fact that she managed to beat out Chelsea Kane, who is about a third of her age, was a huge achievement, and Kirstie should be really proud. Chelsea should be super pissed at pro partner Mark Ballas, whose mugging and selfish choreography hurt her all season despite the fact that she was a solid dancer. More »
It’s the finale! Although I hate how long and drawn-out the final two episodes are, I love how they force contestants to up their game. The freestyle dance in particular is a favorite, because after a whole season of Latin dancers struggling through waltzes and classic dancers forcing themselves through sambas, this is a chance for everyone to cut loose. Finalists Chelsea Kane, Hines Ward, and Kirstie Alley all brought energy to the floor for their freestyles last night. But who will win? More »
As far as ridiculously unpredictable seasons of Dancing with the Stars go, this one has been pretty predictable. Though Ralph Macchio got off to a great start and had the highest score several weeks running, it’s rare that the person at the top of the leaderboard in week one is the person who ends up winning the show. Ralph was starting to show signs of wear as he worked through an injury, and despite an audience who clearly liked him, he was voted off last night in a very respectable fourth place. More »
There are a couple of “types” who always get cast on a season of Dancing with the Stars – the former child star, the retired athlete, and the mom who mentions her kids every week. And then there’s another, more insidious ‘type’ – the contestant who is on the show hoping to lose weight. Tia Carrere said on season 2 that one incentive for doing the show was to lose her baby weight, and even Jerry Springer said that he needed to slim down (and learn to dance for his daughter’s wedding, which elicited plenty of awws).
This season, the contestant in that category is Kirstie Alley, the former Cheers star who has made a veritable cottage industry out of her struggles with her weight. It’s almost impossible to go a day without reading something about Kirstie’s tenure on Dancing without also reading something about her weight. Almost every article, blog post, or discussion thread about her as a competitor on the show talks about her weight. More »
It never fails: no matter what you think you know about the contestants on Dancing with the Stars, you can always get proven wrong. Early in the season, I picked Ralph Macchio as someone who had potential to go all the way, but now that he is injured I think he’s starting to show signs of wear. More »
Now that we’re down to just six teams on Dancing with the Stars that means it’s time for team dances. Hines Ward, who is one of my favorites to win this season, was in a group with Kirstie Alley and Kendra Wilkinson. The group dances are a nice way to compare dancers side-by-side and see who’s really nailing the footwork, and this performance pointed out how far Kirstie is behind the other competitors. More »
My favorite tabloid, The National Enquirer, announces on this week’s cover that Dancing with the Stars is rigged and that either Kirstie Alley or Kendra Wilkinson will win. Here are the Enquirer’s arguments, plus commentary from me. More »
Although I had picked her as a potential frontrunner last week, this week Kirstie Alley didn’t have great luck on Dancing with the Stars. During her rumba with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy (which was supposed to be sexy, but…), Kirstie made a misstep and fell. To their credit, Kirstie and Maks recovered nicely and kept going, and this should set them up for a nice redemption arc next week. More »
My early prediction for this season of Dancing with the Stars: Kirstie Alley is a contender. More »
Does Scientology translate into ballroom skills? Probably not.
According to Popeater, Kirstie Alley thinks that Scientology will give her an advantage on Dancing with the Stars, and she’s reportedly trying to convert her dance partner, the smoking hot Maksim Chmerkovskiy, to the religion.
It’s hard to know if Scientology will help a contestant on DWTS, since not many Scientologists have competed on the show. The only other one I can think of is Priscilla Presley, who finished in eighth place in season 6 with partner Louis Van Amstel – it’s certainly not a bad showing, but not a win either. More »

Okay, we’re starting to suspect that folks are getting bizarre tattoos just to end up in our Daily WTF column. What other reason could there possibly be for permanently inking your body with Kirstie Alley‘s face? Could there be secret Veronica’s Closet or Weight Watchers superfans out there?
Uh Oh, is this a Scientology thing? More »
