Brooklyn promoter Todd P, who is responsible for the shows that happen at Market Hotel, Monster Island Basement, and many others, is hoping to start a new tradition: A post-SXSW music festival in Monterrey, Mexico called MtyMx. Spoon, Jay-Z, The Allman Brothers, and More On Sale Now
It’s Friday so that means tickets are going on sale! Lots of bands have new albums coming out, so that means they are going on tour: Kings of Convenience, Midlake, Yoko Ono’s We Are Plastic Ono Band, Spoon, Shearwater, The Thermals, and many more. Jay-Z is also coming to town, and the Allman Brothers have announced their annual week-plus of shows, although this year it’s at United Palace instead of the usual Beacon Theatre.

CMJ Shows and Parties
CMJ, the awesome New York City festival a la Austin’s South by Southwest, is coming up next week, from Tuesday, October 20 to Saturday, October 24! Hundreds of bands are playing at hundreds of venues around the city. YACHT has a new album coming out today called See Mystery Lights and to celebrate he will be at Santos Party House tonight (Tuesday) with Special Disco Version (DJ’s James Murphy & Pat Mahoney) and Bad Brilliance. Tickets are still on sale.

Sebastien Tellier and Lemonade Played LPR
(le) Poisson Rouge was hopping Wednesday night. After a DJ set, Lemonade took the stage. The last (and first) time I saw them was also at LPR, opening for El Guincho. At that point, I thought they were really good, but not amazing. This time I thought their live show had definitely improved and thought they played a great set. Yay Lemonade!

El Guincho, Lemonade at LPR

I finally had the privilege of seeing El Guincho live on Tuesday night and it was well worth the wait.
Lemonade
Opener was Lemonade who were pretty good although several times the lead singer’s voice seemed off key…they are playing again tonight at Zebulon and on December 9 at the Annex with Friendly Fires.

El Guincho Finally Makes It to the U.S.
Spanish mastermind El Guincho, who canceled multiple tour dates in the U.S. this summer, is finally making it back and is playing two shows in NYC at (le) Poisson Rouge. The first was a DJ set with Prefuse 73 on Saturday night. Was anyone there? How was it?
