The Magnetic Fields at Town Hall.

Of course, in a few weeks from now I’ll have seen Caribou, Man Man and Yeasayer, Hot Chip, and Paul Simon so who knows how I’ll feel then!

100 songs that you love that make you respect yourself a little less

Musical Guilty Pleasures…

A guilty pleasure is a song or a band you would listen to, but sure as hell wouldn’t wear the t-shirt in public….or tell your friends for that matter.

You’ll listen to the song and belt it out when driving on the highway, but never in the city with your window down.

b5media’s presents…

100 songs that you love that make you respect yourself a little less.

Here are the Guilty Pleasures of the writers at Big Apple Music Scene.

(Yes, we know that some of these artists are not from New York)

Hot Hot Heat @ Webster Hall

Hot Hot Heat @ Webster Hall

Victoria British Columbia’s Hot Hot Heat will be screeching through New York in less than a month. This is a band that will make you take notice, regardless of how hard you try to ignore them. This band had a very similar impact on me after seeing them live as the Libertines did. I liked their albums, but the live show made me hit their trail for weeks (and months afterward). Webster Hall is a venue that suits the style… More »

New York’s Top 50 Bands….

New York's Top 50 Bands....

Back to that list I was rambling about.

The Top 50 bands to have ever called New York home.   Quick recap:  Velvet was number 1…agreeable.

Miles, the man who delivered Cool to the world came in at number 4. It’s crazy to think that Miles Davis may have been a spark to the tinder for New York’s encompassing and forever ‘coolness’. Could New York’s present swagger date back to a few sessions from 1949 and 1950? That’s a… More »
