Video: Lana Del Rey Gets A Do-Over On Letterman

While many see the release of her underwhelming album Born To Die as her career’s final resting place, Lana Del Rey most certainly does not. Girl’s got an album to promote, and promote it she will. The much-panned singer went on The Late Show With David Letterman last night to take another stab at singing live in a way that does not cause everyone to laugh at her, and she at least succeeded at that. Ms. Del Rey performed a much more on-the-nose version of Video Games than we saw on SNL, and while there were no major gaffes, I find this song (which I used to like!) gets more repetitive and annoying each time I am forced to hear it.

Widely known as a sucker for a pretty face and voice, Dave was charmed by her, saying “wow, that was beautiful. Great to meet you…can you come back tomorrow night? Okay, how about Monday?” Personally, I’m reminded of the time Caitlin Upton (aka Miss South Carolina, a.k.a. Miss “AND LIKE SUCH AS“) went on daytime TV to re-answer her pageant question. She sounded coherent enough, but only relative to how she’d sounded before, and it didn’t keep her from continuing to be Miss South Carolina. Lana Del Rey has a lot more work to do before she stops being an internet meme first and a singer second.

Video: Azealia Banks Performs Her Hit ’212′ For Fashion People At Karl Lagerfeld’s House

There’s no way to prove you actually have talent like ripping through a song live with minimal set-up, and that’s exactly what up-and-coming rapper/singer/all-around awesome chick Azealia Banks did the other night at the domicile of one Mr. Karl Lagerfeld.

At a recent fete thrown by The Kaiser the celebrate his new clothing line, Azealia Banks, who is already loved by the fashion world for her fresh style and unique ability to express the feelings fashion people keep bottled up inside (aggression, bombast, oral sex lust), gave a performance that delighted all present. (The video comes courtesy of high profile editor and man-about-town Derek Blasberg, who claims to have crashed the party.) Ms. Banks barely came up for air as she confidently spit out each clever rhyme in her viral hit “212,” sounding alternately tough, nerdy, crass, and adorable. She also sang all the hooks, because she doesn’t fuck around. The song proved so infectious it even made some of the fancy people there try to dance to it, with awkward results. Magnificent!

Can people please stop comparing Ms. Banks to Kreayshawn, now? It’s not just my east coast bias speaking when I say that Azealia Banks has more talent in the blue tips of her hair than Kreay has in the entirety of her stiff little body. And yes, it is a competition. Hiphop is a battle, folks, and Azealia Banks is winning.

Have you ever given the side eye to the tradition of the Yule log, with its suspiciously turd-like appearance? If so, you’ll be vindicated by this weird little Catalan children’s song that jazzy cutie Norah Jones sang on Anthony Bourdain’s Christmas special the other night. Remember kids: don’t poop sardines, for they are too salty. Words to live by.

There was also a performance from improbable crossover success Fucked Up, who decided it would be funny for lead singer Damian Abraham to growl the words to “Jingle Bells,” and it was:

Weekend Flashback – “Toxic” live in Korea

I usually do a Friday Flashback to take a look back on some of Britney Spears’ older performances but since I’m a bit too late for Friday, we’ll just call this a Weekend Flashback this one time, okay? Great!

Yesterday I was listening to Britney Spears on my iPod and “Toxic” came on. I’ve been completely unable to get it out of my head ever since, so I figured I’d share it with you too.

This video features Britney performing “Toxic” in Korea, and she’s looking awfully sexy while wearing a little black bra, tiny skirt, and high boots. It shows that she really had it back then – and still does today!

Britney Spears live in Miami!

On September 2nd, Britney Spears brought down the house with another amazing performance. She was in Miami for the and from the look of the video clips that I found, it was awesome!

In this clip of “If U Seek Amy”, the sound is unfortunately quite distorted but you can still hear the song. I try to avoid distortion but the video itself is great because the person shooting it was pretty close to stage so you can really see what’s going on. It also helps to demonstrate the fact that there really aren’t any bad seats thanks to the three-ring circus layout of the stage – although the video starts off showing us Britney from the back, she soon makes her way around the stage and ends up facing us.

This video clip of “Boys” is much the same – a bit of distortion but who cares? Look how close up the video gets to Britney as she performs!

Lucky Miami, it looks like they got a great show!

Video clips from Britney Spears’ Philadelphia Circus show

Britney Spears performed in Philadelphia on August 30th, bring the Circus show to town.

There seems to be a lack of photos of Britney performing right now but there’s never any shortage of video clips. I would have a love-hate relationship with “Womanizer” if I saw Britney in concert. Love, because it’s a great song and the performance is great. Hate, because it’s the last song of the show!

“Boys” is a lot of fun too – it’s great seeing Britney riding around on the bike on stage!

I like that they changed up the costumes for some songs but kept others the same.

Last night (August 24th), Britney Spears performed live at Madison Square Garden in New York City. As promised, she did indeed give away two front row tickets to the lucky winners who found her “hiding” in NYC – you can see a great photo of Britney with the winners here.

Meanwhile, it looks like Britney rocked the house again – she looks like she’s having a blast on stage in these photos of her performing. I’ll bet New York City had a great time at the show.

Britney Spears live in Ottawa – mash-up video

I found a really fun video of the Britney Spears concert in Ottawa. The person who put it together included some fans outside the venue who were competing in a competition for the best poster, then we got to see a clip of Kristinia DeBarge and Girlicious who both opened for Britney.

Of course, we then get to see Britney performing “Circus”.

It’s a great little compilation to give you an idea of what the Circus tour might look like if you were there in person.

Britney Spears live in Hamilton, Ontario

Britney Spears spent quite a bit of time relaxing poolside in a bikini lately, but she’s back to work now. She kicked off the second round of North American Circus Tour dates in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. And speaking of kick – she kicked some ass while she was there. Check out this live performance of “Toxic”:

The sound is a bit distorted but the video is just incredible! Britney really got her mojo back after having some time off because – in the words of Tyra Banks she was FIERCE.

The same person – who obviously had insane seats – got a great video clip of Britney performing “If U Seek Amy” as well.

Looks like Hamilton got an excellent show! Let me know if you saw it yourself!

Friday Flashback: Britney Spears at Teen Choice Awards 2002

Since the news broke that Britney Spears will be appearing at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards (I’m still bummed that she’s not performing!) to accept an award, I thought that it would fun to celebrate this Friday Flashback with a look back at the year 2002 when Britney performed at the Teen Choice Awards.

Britney started off with Sometimes, then switched into Crazy.

It was fun to watch. Her Circus tour looks completely awesome but I still love the way she used to dance back then!
