Look, I know it’s redundant to even pretend to be shocked by anything Lady Gaga does at this point, and I’m not saying I’m surprised or offended or anything — just that I find this hat made out of hair really super gross. It causes a physical reaction inside the stomach part of my body that’s making me regret finishing off that bowl of noodles.

I mean, hair is kind of disgusting, right? You’ll send your plate back if it arrives with a strand from the chef’s head, so why wouldn’t this hat — ten thousand times hairier than that pasta — be any different? Plus, the thing just makes her look like a Snooki tribute, which is probably the last thing Gaga wants to project.

LG was snapped in this questionable ensemble outside her London hotel yesterday evening. It also appears she forgot her pants — so maybe the hat was supposed to be a distraction.

While New York is mired in its Fashion Week activities, the Brits still have a couple days to prepare. Our London correspondent Ria Tesia gives us a taste of what the English are looking forward to in clothes and culture.

London is a hot-bed of activity in the fall. With a thriving music scene and uber cool fashion landscape to boot, London is one of my favorite places to be. London Fashion Week is five days away (OK, I’m counting). In the run-up to this hotly anticipated annual event that has been in the diary of any self-respecting fashion aficionado since last year, London will be highlighting a plethora of sartorially focused design talent. The eyes of all and sundry, from buyers, to journalists, to individuals with a passion for fashion will be glued to the fabulous affair from Friday. I love watching these fashion shows, where models sashay down the catwalk and flit from one hip after-party to another in a range of delectable designs. For three whole days, myself, along with the fashion populace forget the words ‘recession’ and ‘austerity measures.’

From newbie designers Eudon Choi and Felicity Brown, to veterans such as Vivienne Westwood and Maria Grachvogel, London Fashion Week is pure sartorial pleasure. I am in particular, looking forward to seeing Victoria Beckham’s show. Her Autumn/Winter 2010 was slick, striking and extremely wearable. Acknowledging a sculptor extraordinaire (the brilliant Brancusi) for her last collection, her inspiration is definitely interesting and unique. Her designs are flattering and enormously covetable; her halter-neck dress in the blush tone has shot up to number one on my wish-list (boyfriend, take note for potential Christmas present).

Another hotspot in the Londoner’s diary is The Mercury Prize. A keen acolyte of new music, I follow this event with a passion and watched last week, the coolest party in town unfold with bated breath. This is the music event that all industry insiders earmark and attend in their droves. This remarkable award veritably champions new music whilst single-handedly flying the flag for upcoming groups. Twelve bands from diverse genres made the enviable shortlist, with nominations being announced way back in July. The music gurus that be, had us on tenterhooks for a whole two months before announcing the super cool ‘The XX’ as winners of The Mercury Prize Album of The Year. Expect to hear more from this accomplished and highly talented outfit, as they continue to charm their way to your ears (I especially love the soulful melody of ‘Crystalised’).

I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for music and fashion royalty in a few of my top London haunts (Claridges and The Landmark). I may well see bona fide royalty if I’m lucky, as it is the birthday on Wednesday of Prince Harry. I doubt I’ll see him partying; the reformed royal redhead prefers a quieter life these days. The transformation, of the third in line to the throne, has been nothing short of miraculous. Leaving his firebrand days behind, a grounded, thoroughly likable, mature individual has emerged. He’s even founded Sentebale, a charity which helps vulnerable children in Lesotho, South Africa. So, happy birthday Prince Harry. It’s going to be a fabulous week, I can just feel it…

I’m a self-proclaimed High School Musical fan. I have all three DVDs and soundtracks and I even attended the concert when it visited my hometown in 2007. I’m also 22 years old and 18 days older than Zac Efron.

Somehow, I convinced two friends to come with me to attend the 17 Again premiere in London’s Leicester Square last spring while I was studying abroad. We arrived at the red carpet almost two hours early, but we still stood no chance of standing in prime red carpet real estate. We stayed though, ignoring the typical London drizzles, and hoping that maybe, Zac would walk to our spot toward the end of the carpet.

For anyone who’s ever been to a red carpet premiere, there is a camaraderie you develop with the people around you (at least in London, that is). My friends and I started talking to an 18-year-old girl next to us whose family had recently moved to London to escape the dangers of her home country, South Africa. She told us how guards with machine guns used to stand outside her house to protect her and how her mother kept a gun under her bed, as well, to protect her family from rebels. She claimed it had been that way her whole life. Suddenly my desire for Zac to sign my HSM3 DVD seemed silly and juvenile.

Then there was the small, 40-something man standing next to me who lived for the red carpet. He’d met Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt and had no clue who Zac Efron or any other celebrity that night was, but he made sure to elbow me out the way to get his autograph. He also knocked my mini notebook out of my hand, which I later found on the red carpet. Like before, I felt wrong trying to edge out this man for Jemma McKenzie-Brown (Tiara Gold for you HSM fans) to sign my HSM3 DVD case.

Despite all of the chaos, I caught a good look at Zac before someone threw something at him and the police forbade him to come near us. Unfortunately, when I looked at him I saw every boy walking around my campus, because, when he’s just five feet away from you, Zac Efron looks like the typical 21-year-old guy. Up close, he’s certainly not the dreamy poster boy that Perez Hilton draws white hearts over.

I suddenly realized that I needed to abandon my love for the Disney Channel. Who wants to wait for hours to fawn over someone who could sit next to you in lecture?

This realization, and the fact that I was still squished between shrieking tweens, prompted my friends and I to leave the scene, head over to Chinatown and demand a glass of red wine before we even sat down.
