Despite choosing an unfortunately long name, YouTuber VilyaXxXollwyna undoubtedly knows his/her way around editing software. There are so many excellent parts: Havok learning how to harness his powers for every mention of “raging fire”; Hank McCoy running past Xavier; matching up the mutants perfectly to all the asides in the middle; and of course, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender‘s characters having so many lovely homoerotic moments.

In an unusual marketing move, though, X-Men: First Class has recently seen the release of several character-specific trailers. This is atypical for one very obvious reason: Quick, name all the superhero movies you can think of off the top of your head! Spider-Man, Batman, Iron Man, Daredevil, Green Lantern, Thor… the list goes on, but by and large, these are all singular superheroes. Sure, The Fantastic Four is a group, but it’s a small group and it’s mostly made up of family members, and yes, The Avengers is finally in production, but up til this point, X-Men has been pretty much the only franchise featuring a large group of heroes, rather than a single protagonist, that has been given the cinematic treatment. What these character-specific trailers do is effectively give us a rundown of who’s who in the film, which is actually a pretty smart move. It introduces us to the key players, and perhaps more importantly, it gives us a heads-up about important characters with whom we may be less familiar. Here’s the roster as it stands:

Beast (Nicholas Hoult):
Even casual X-Men followers will recognize this guy: Dr. Henry “Hank” McCoy, the brilliant scientist with the fearsome exterior. In X-Men: First Class, he’s also a political activist, and his mutation wasn’t originally quite as blue as we’re used to. The blue thing happened when he attempted to cure himself (whoops). Beast is played by Nicholas Hoult of About A Boy and the original Skins (the boy done grown up!), though originally Benjamin Walker had been cast; Walker dropped out in order to make the Broadway transfer of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.

Havok (Lucas Till):
Havok actually isn’t a character that I’m that familiar with; the X-Men universe is, after all, pretty massive. Also known as Alex Summers, Havok has the ability to absorb energy and turn it into some pretty impressive blasting that looks kind of like an explosive hula hoop. He’s sort of similar to Cyclops in that his ability is difficult to control, and if he fails to control it, it can result in some very bad things indeed. For that reason, when he’s first found by Charles Xavier, we learn that he’s the first guy this other guy has ever met who prefers solitary confinement. Havok is played by Lucas Till.

Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones):
Banshee, real name Sean Cassidy, is actually Irish in the comics, but he’s been Americanized for the film. His ability has a fun name: “hypersonic screaming.” That is, he can scream at a pitch that can shatter glass, scare fish, and do all sorts of other things. He can also hold himself aloft using sound waves alone, allowing him effectively to fly. His original comic form was also significantly older than most of the other X-Men, but hey, artistic license and all that. Banshee is played by Caleb Landry Jones.

Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence):
Aha! A character and an actress that we’re familiar with! When she’s not busy on the Oscar red carpet or trying to survive the Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence has been donning the blue makeup of shapeshifter Raven Darkholme. We’re most familiar with her as a villain, but once upon a time, Mystique was just a girl who wanted to be normal. And she apparently also had a little bit of a thing with Hank McCoy.

Apparently Lucas and Taylor dated for a bit after he starred in her “You Belong With Me” music video.

He reveals to MTV: “We dated for a little bit. But, there was no friction because we were too nice. We just really both liked each other … [but] most relationships work out cause you get along and then you don’t, and then you make up and its passionate, and with us I really just liked her as a friend. That’s the only reason that didn’t work out.”

Back in August, he revealed that of kissing Miley Cyrus and Taylor, he preferred Taylor!! And he’s still standing by that decision. “I chose Taylor Swift and I’m gonna stick with that answer,” he said.

JC: What have you been up to lately.

Well, I’ve been doing a lot of these phone interviews! I’ve been doing a lot of auditions.

JC: How long ago did you end filming for The Spy Next Door?

It feels like it was two months ago, but it was in December. Wow!

JC: Can you tell me about your role in that film?

I am a Russian spy, so a big difference from in Hannah Montana. [Laughs]

JC: How was it working with Jackie Chan?

I grew up on Jackie Chan. It was a dream come true! And I can mark it up on my bucket list. It was surreal actually.

JC: How was it filming Hannah Montana: The Movie?

That was three months paid vacation. It was awesome! We’re in the south, so everybody’s nice. It’s only four hours away from my home. We’re shooting a movie that’s a huge movie and everybody was treating me well! It was just the smoothest movie I’ve ever shot!

JC: I see your up for Teen Choice Awards nominees for Choice Movie Actor and Choice Movie Liplock! How does that feel?

It’s pretty awesome. I mean, a year ago I thought I was finishing up high school and I was gonna go to college. Now I’m in a Hannah Montana movie and up for two teen choice awards. It’s pretty smooth!

JC: How did you find out about the Teen Choice nominees?

An intern working for my agent’s office in Atlanta, apparently she likes me a lot. I’m going to take her out to dinner next time I’m in Atlanta! She was the first one to find out before any of my representation did! It was funny.

JC: How did you get your start acting?

I never thought acting was option. I started taking acting classes when I was ten. I thought wow, this was pretty awesome!

JC: How do you decide if you’re interested in auditioning for a role?

At this point, just as long as its available! For me it’s – is this movie going to entertain, inform, or inspire someone. That’s all it takes to get me to go on an audition.

JC: Who are your role models in the industry?

Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt.

JC: If you could play any part, what would it be?

The Joker!

JC: Quite a departure from Hannah Montana!

Well Hannah Montana was a departure from my career prior!

JC: What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?

Play video games! That’s the main thing. If I’m really bored for a week I’ll play an RPG, otherwise I’ll do a first person shooter.

JC: What’s your favorite book?

Dante’s The Inferno

JC: Name one song on your iPod.

Careless Whisper

JC: Do you have any advice for your fans?

It’s all about what really matters in life, which is family, friends, and being happy. Don’t think that once you achieve ultimate fame and ultimate richness you’re going to be happy. That’s not how it works!

Miley Cyrus‘ boyfriend isn’t thrilled to see her kissing another guy, even if it is onscreen!

Miley kisses her Hannah Montana: The Movie co-star Lucas Till in the film, and says that Justin Gaston struggled to watch the scene.

“He’s seen the movie, and it’s only acting, so I guess you have got to keep that in your mind. And I’m sure it’s probably a little hard, but we’re actors. We have got to be good at our jobs.”

LUcas insists that he is just friends with Miley and even became friends with Justin while they were shooting the movie! “Justin is a nice guy. I didn’t see any animosity there for any reason.”

Cody Linley weighed in, joking that he was mad that Miley’s character moved on. “She’s got a boyfriend in the movie. Where is he? I’m going to lay the smackdown!”

Hannah Montana: The Movie may not be in theaters yet, but TWIST scored major love details from Miley Cyrus‘s love interest, Lucas Till!

“We were secretly crushing on each other,” Lucas confesses. “We had little jokes together!”

We just KNEW something was up last summer when they were caught swimming together in the ocean and hanging out on set!
