Music festival season is well underway, and the latest offering was Lollapalooza in Chicago. Check out photos of acts like The Pretty Reckless and The Kills doing their thing from the stage. And yes, we assure you Taylor Momsen‘s wearing something ridiculous. More »
Remember the Lou Reed/Susan Boyle controversy-that-wasn’t-really-a-controversy? In brief, Susan wasn’t allowed to sing Lou’s song “Perfect Day” on America’s Got Talent and everyone thought it was because Lou wasn’t a fan of the reality show performer. But it turns out Lou maybe didn’t have a problem with Susan tackling his song after all, and he even ended up directing the music video for her cover of the tune.
Well, the aging punker totally never had a leg to stand on. As anyone who has seen HP’s most recent commercial now knows, Lou is totally lame! The ad, which is sort of a general survey of their products, features a version of Lou’s transsexual-and-hustler-themed 1972 classic “Walk on the Wild Side” with insanely uncool lyrics that reference HP’s products. Ridiculous, right? Pretty much. Check out our video gallery of nine other subversive tunes that were misappropriated by the advertising powers that be. More »
This is a guest post from our friends at Luckymag.com.
Attention all Swedish-pop fans: Lykke Li is back with a new song! As delighted as we are for new tunes, we’re probably even more excited to see how her wardrobe has expanded. We have a warm fuzzy place in our hearts for anyone with an affinity for wearing black. Judging from her onstage persona, it’s pretty clear she’s the boss of her clothes and wears them with great fervor. The new single just reminded us of her performance a few months back at a Facehunter-hosted event–which featured these great things:
1.) A blazer-style leather jacket.
2.) One that should be in any good collection of “all things black leather.”
3.) When in doubt, do as Lykke Li. More »

CMJ, the annual music conference in New York akin to SXSW in Austin, has announced its initial lineup, which includes some previously announced shows. You can usually buy tickets to individual shows, or get a badge and hope to get in. If you register by August 19 you get 15% off the “all-access” badge (but sometimes the badge can’t get you in to certain shows anyway…). Here’s the lineup so far:
