Former Home Improvement Cutie Taran Noah Smith Arrested For DUI, Drug Possession

Adding to the pile of evidence that being a child star might not be conducive to the healthiest emotional development, Taran Noah Smith, best known for playing Tim Allen‘s youngest son Mark Taylor on ’90s sitcom Home Improvement, was arrested early this morning for driving under the influence and possession of drugs. Ruh-roh.

Via TMZ:

Sources tell us … Smith was behind the wheel of his 1998 silver Honda Accord, which was parked at an angle in front of a fire hydrant when an officer decided to investigate the situation. We’re told the officer smelled a “strong odor” of weed and believed Smith was under the influence…We’re told they also found a stash of hash … a type of marijuana.

Silly Taran Noah Smith! Don’t you know not to park illegally when hot boxing your car? This is clearly a beginner’s mistake he made due to being deprived of a proper adolescence, including the part where you learn how to smoke weed without getting arrested and/or scared. Yet another pitfall of child stardom.

Smith has made headlines in the past for his acrimonious split-up from his parents (who, he believed, were stealing his fortune) and his subsequent acrimonious split-up from wife Heidi Van Pelt. But with any luck, he’ll be able to spin this into a career comeback of sorts. Next stop: Celebrity Rehab.

Some photos of Rihanna smoking what appears to be a big, fat blunt while on vacation in Hawaii hit the Internet today, and they’re so stoney I think I got a little high just from looking at them. Seriously, I need to get some snacks now. Okay, that’s better.

The photos show a sleepy-eyed Rihanna enjoying a post-workout smoke, and even multitasking a bit by doing some leg stretches at the same time. And in case there was any doubt in anyone’s mind about precisely what she was doing, she tweeted the following yesterday morning:

Harry Potter‘s Jamie Waylett Charged With Possessing Homemade Bomb, Marijuana

He may have been acting when he played Draco Malfoy‘s sidekick Vincent Crabbe in the Harry Potter movies, but it seems Jamie Waylett has been up to some shady activities in real life, as well. The 22-year-old Englishman has just been charged with four separate offenses: three that relate to his participation in the recent London Riots (violent disorder, having an article with intent to destroy or damage property, receiving stolen goods) and one that relates to his participation in having fifteen cannabis plants in his home. Specifically, the “article” he was caught with was a Molotov cocktail. Should’ve cast some kind of un-trace-able fire spell instead.

Is it bad that I’m a little bit impressed? I mean, up until this, the most dangerous thing anyone from Harry Potter had ever done was when Daniel Radcliffe got naked for a production of Equus. Look at that perma-smirk! He probably looks like that right this second. You just know he’s not even a little bit sorry. This isn’t the first time he’s been arrested for marijuana, either. According to E! Online, a 2009 marijuana arrest prompted producers to write him out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. He needs to hurry up and get more famous so we can watch Jamie Waylett: An E! True Hollywood Story.

The Daily WTF: Grocery Stores Now Carry Marijuana-Shaped Candy

Sour apple candy: it’s the gateway to the gateway drug. A new brand of pot leaf-shaped lollipops with packaging that boasts the message “legalize” has hit grocery store shelves — and parents and anti-drug groups are up in arms.

The “Pothead Ring Pots” “Pothead Lollipops” are distributed by the Philadelphia novelty company Kalan LP, which means they’re meant to be funny gag gifts rather than snacks for kids. However, the candy’s found its way to delis instead of gift stores, and with a price of $1 for a lollipop and $1.50 for three rings, kids are snatching them up.

Weirdly, although more than a thousand stores have been carrying the products for six months or longer, parents’ groups are only complaining about the candy now. “They’re only sour apple,” the people behind the product explained, before collapsing into a fit of giggles and pondering the creation of salvia-shaped Doritos.

‘Weeds’ S7E7 Recap: Nancy Makes A Deal…Not That Kind

Hello and welcome to this, the latest television show to be added to Crushable’s roster of recaps. I realize that we’re halfway through the seventh season already, but I’m hoping most of the people who watch this show are too high to notice. J/k, Weeds is a great, complex television program and I’m sure all of its fans are very smart. Let’s begin!

Nancy

This episode opens with Nancy Botwin talking to Silas on the phone about their fresh supply of MILF Weed from Heylia’s harvest. She’s interrupted by halfway house counselor Ed, whose mishandling of Nancy’s case, and maybe also his drinking, have put his job in jeopardy. He tells her he’s going to be on her “like butter on toast.” How is she going to sell weed at the company softball game now? I have to say, I’m hoping she gets out of the depressing halfway house soon. The piss tests, the ugly clothes, the curfews…she’s basically Medea at this point, but we still don’t like seeing her like this, do we?

Ed shows up at the game and has a sweet moment in which he bonds with Uncle Andy over what he doesn’t know is their mutual anger at Nancy. He pokes around looking for Nancy’s boss Doug Wilson, who he’s sure is helping Nancy do something shady. He encounters Doug just as he’s going on a steroid-fueled rant about how he doesn’t want to be called “Rocket Man” anymore, and Doug, being a total racist, mistakes him for Nancy’s former associate Marvin, another black dude, and asks, “are you still selling weed with Nancy?” Oh dear.

But it’s okay, because Nancy has already made a deal with the SEC agents stalking the game to help them gain access to insider info on the firm’s book cooking in exchange for getting out of the halfway house way early. And just like that, she’s out of Ed’s jurisdiction. Is that how it works in real life? Anyway, the readiness with which Nancy is willing to sell out her employer to serve her own interests is classic Nancy Botwin. I don’t think most viewers have much sympathy for Wall Street at this point in time, though, so this doesn’t add too much to Nancy’s evil this time around.

She also manages to flirt with the firm’s CEO, and we see her masochistic tendencies reemerging. Why did she give this guy leverage over her by telling him she’s a drug dealer? So they can have play weird, S+M-y sex games, is why. Nancy loves to get into it with powerful, scary men who may or may not try to kill her. Is a little attention from Mr. Boss Man really worth risking her and her family’s lives? If you’ve been following the show, this is a rhetorical question.

Shane

Everyone’s favorite little sociopath’s burgeoning friendship with the crooked cop amuses me. You can see him getting intoxicated with potential power when he practices flipping open that badge. The only thing more frightening than Shane as an outlaw is Shane with a badge and a gun. And yet, he talks the hooker into taking out student loans and going to college. A mixed bag of sweet and scary, that one. When he says “I swim in moral grey areas, trust me,” the cop has no idea how true that statement is.

Silas

Pro: His new modeling agent is going to set him up with some drug dealers. Con: He has to box in underground model fight club first. He agrees to take a fall so she can win her bet, but then his opponent sets him off by calling him a “momma’s boy” and he beats the crap out of him. You do not do that to someone who insists on calling his mother by her first name.

This violates the terms of their agreement, but his agent thought it was hot, so she hooks it up anyway. This is pretty understandable. I don’t know if it’s the brown hair or increasing ambition to succeed at Drugs, but he’s even more of a dreamboat this season than in the past.

Is he going to bone down with his agent? Screenshot says yes:

This will do nothing to alleviate his mommy issues.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger: Nancy’s sexy lesbian jail friend is out, and knows she’s banging her brother. Will they have a creepy threesome? Tune in next week to find out!

Shia LaBeouf put on his director’s hat (it’s a fedora) to make a video for Kid Cudi’s song “Marijuana.” It’s a pretty student filmy effort — Shia follows Kid Cudi around Amsterdam with a super 8 camera (or is that a post-production filter?), where the artist mostly just hangs out and smokes weed. Good song, though.

Although Lady Gaga is proud of being a pop star who actually writes her own material, lately she’s been giving credit to some other authors of her work.

Alexander McQueen

Gaga says that her friend, late fashion designer Alexander McQueen, is using her as a conduit to get his message across. “I think he planned the whole thing. Right after he died, I wrote Born This Way,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “When I heard that, I knew he planned the whole damn thing. I didn’t even write the f**king song! He did!”

God

Gaga’s new single “Judas” was a present from the Big Guy himself. She told NME that “I feel like honestly that God sent me those lyrics and that melody. When you feel a message to give to the world and people are shooting arrows through it…there’s no way for something that pure to be wrong.”

Marijuana

Gaga has said that she often smokes pot when she’s working on songs. This might explain how that “disco stick” lyric came to be.

Crushable Books: Weedopedia

Confession: I am not the Weedopedia‘s intended audience. I have not been, and never will be, a proper stoner. The most paranoia I associate with marijuana is the fear that everyone I come in contact with (friends, family, the occasional senator or media mogul…) smokes more pot than I do, and is therefore irrecoverably more “cool” than me. The last time I got anything close like stoned I watched someone impersonate a robot, rearrange the living room furniture, and create a television show in their head where they got to tell other people to “Get their sh*t together.” I do not need more of that in my life, thanks.

On the other hand, Weedopedia, writted by one Will B. High, is a very informative and useful book that will help me pass as a cool kid the next time I go hang out under the bleachers during a football game.

Even though books written to mimic the effects of a website like Wikipedia are as dumb as a mid-2000s Kevin Smith film, Weedopedia was surprisingly up-to-date and clever with its references. I even learned some stuff! Like under “P” where I found ou about Project MKULTRA:

“an experiment conducted by the U.S. government from the early 1950s to at least the mid-1960s and the best use of taxpayer dollars in U.S. history. The project served as a way to study the effects of LSD, cocaine, marijuana, and other psychoactive drugs on human behavior. Usually the rugs were administered without the subject’s consent or knowledge…the project is especially important to know for the stoner, because if and when stoners invent time-travel technology, they should know to go back to 1953 in San Francisco and try to look as shady and forgettable as possible. Such behavior will likely result in getting picked up and given free LSD by the government.”

If this is the sort of insider-y smoke dreams that you guys like to talk about when high, this book has tons of similarly dense nuggets (LOL) of wisdom. If you are like me however, and read that entry only to get a panic attack at the concept of Big Brother administering your parents drugs, leading to an inexplicable urge to clean everything in your house and maybe touch the door handle on your bathroom five times exactly, then this book can still be useful as a way of both learning stoner culture and making sure your apartment is always especially shiny.

Weedopedia, you are a good book, and I am glad your publishers decided to send us three copies (they were high, I presume), so I can give them to a bunch of my friends and pass it off like I suddenly know a lot about chronic, kindbud, and the comic stylings Mitch Hedburg. Just do yourself a favor and rename this book “The Weed Dictionary,” because you’d have to be straight trippin’ not to realize that this book is not, in fact, an Internet website.

Thanksgiving: The Pot-Smoker’s Holiday

Thanksgiving is coming up in two weeks, which means for most of us it’s time to pack all our dirty laundry for mom to do, stock up on Valium, and head home to see the family. As you grow older though, something strange happens: Thanksgiving is no longer about listening to your parents fight with your grandma, or the last minute rush after the oven stops working and you need to put the turkey in the neighbor’s stove. No, Thanksgiving has been deemed the official holiday made possible by marijuana.

It makes perfect sense. Take the most stressful holiday – the one that involves the most cooking, the most amount of people over for a sit-down, potentially volatile meal – and add a little bit of weed to the mix? Well, suddenly the thought of eating 20 pounds of turkey and mashed potatoes seems awesome.

Then there’s the parental issue: I’m not sure if this happens in the majority of households, but I’m willing to bet if you did a study about kids that split an occasional spliff with mom and dad, you’d find that the majority of them started the tradition one Thanksgiving after graduating high school or college and coming home. It implies you are an adult who can finally see your parents as people too, not the strict enforcers who grounded you when they found out you drank vodka on prom night.

Don’t just listen to me, just look at movies like The Family Stone, Home for the Holidays, or most flashbacks in Six Feet Under, all of which feature adults partaking in a little peace-pipe smoking with their children. I’m not endorsing doing drugs under your parent’s roof, of course, but if you’re going to be smoking (or eating) weed anyway this holiday season, consider making it a family affair. Worst-case scenario: your parents freak out, you laugh it off as a joke, and you sit down for your awkward meal after toking by yourself. Best case? You’ve created a new family tradition, everyone gets the munchies, and you spend the entire dinner laughing and stuffing your faces. And isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about?
