Naomi Watts Replaces Jessica Chastain As Princess Diana In Caught In Flight

A few months ago, it seemed as if Jessica Chastain‘s next big role would be Princess Diana in the less-than-flattering biopic Caught in Flight. But now The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Naomi Watts will be taking on the iconic role instead. Last we heard, Naomi was going to play Marilyn Monroe, with production starting in January 2012, but perhaps because Michelle Williams‘ My Week with Marilyn surged ahead and earned its star some nominations, there’s been no development on that front.

While Jessica Chastain never actually released a statement about her supposed casting, Naomi has already said that it’s “an honour to be able to play this iconic role—Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.” Director Oliver Hirschbiegel says that Naomi embodies “the warmth, humanity and empathy of such a global icon as Princess Diana,” especially since the film focuses on the last years of her life and her charity work.

Ironically, there’s another Diana project competing with Caught in Flight: Both Charlize Theron and Carey Mulligan are being considered for a movie about the relationship between Diana and her bodyguard—Naomi’s The Impossible co-star Ewan McGregor is being considered for the bodyguard. It’ll be interesting to see if one of the projects withers on the vine, as happened with the Marilyn movies, or if they’ll get released at the same time but with drastically different takes on the main character, like Snow White and the Huntsman vs. Mirror Mirror.

8 Personal Ads We ‘Found’ On Craigslist This Morning

Let’s just say, hypothetically, I was checking out the personal ads on Craigslist this morning, you know, for a friend. Because my friend is too shy to look for love on her own, and I stumbled across all these ads that looked awfully familiar. This ad sounds like this celebrity and this one sounds like that celebrity — or am I crazy? I am crazy, but let’s pretend I’m not.

Just because they’re rich and famous, doesn’t mean that it’s completely out of the realm of possibility that a celebrity would post an ad on Craigslist looking for love, or even, a NSA situation. So if a select handful of celebrities did post an ad, what might that ad say?

We have some thoughts on the matter. Don’t agree? Then how would your fantasy ad for your favorite celebrity read?

The moment you’ve been eagerly waiting for: Lindsay Lohan‘s Playboy spread has leaked online, a week before she was set to reveal it on Ellen. Not surprisingly, the magazine’s execs are “freaking out” since they paid her $1 million and printed several thousand extra copies expecting everyone would run to the newsstands next week. But why do that when you can look at them on your computer? (Until someone tells us to take them down, of course.)

They’re definitely NSFW ’cause of her strangely tiny nipples, but they’re also… tamer than we expected. LiLo definitely channels Marilyn Monroe, but we might’ve wanted more glitz. And we do miss her natural red hair. But! Judge for yourself if the shoot were worth a million dollars.

UPDATE: Playboy’s lawyer requested the images from Lindsay’s spread be removed, so you’ll have to go back to Google to find them now.

Unfortunately, this sort of caretaker and/or enabler relationship is a common part of Hollywood: Doctors, parents, and hangers-on who encourage celebrities into destructive behavior and often get off clean. Here are six people whose influence was more harmful than helpful.

Had Marilyn Monroe not overdosed on barbiturates in 1962, she would have been the first-ever movie star to appear nude on screen. Unfortunately, Marilyn died before that movie, titled Something’s Got to Give, finished shooting, and the film was never completed. But now we can see a series of photos from that closed set where Marilyn dropped her drawers, taken by photographer Lawrence Schiller. I wonder which Hollywood starlet will be the first to recreate these shots in a magazine spread — Lindsay, Courtney or Michelle?

Video: The Trailer For That Michelle Williams Marilyn Monroe Movie Is Out

The trailer for the Michelle Williams-starring My Week With Marilyn is out, and it looks like a pretty interesting movie. Like we found out earlier, the film is based on two books by Colin Clark, who worked as a set assistant on Monroe vehicle The Prince and the Showgirl in 1956. In the books, after Monroe’s new husband Arthur Miller leaves England, Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne in the film) takes it upon himself to show Marilyn around, and from this, proceeds drama.

From the looks of the trailer, it seems like Natalie’s wish that this film won’t just be about another of Monroe’s lovers will go unfulfilled. You know that they at least make out, and he sees her fairly naked, and then he falls in love with her. But that doesn’t mean it can’t still be a humanistic portrayal of Marilyn’s struggles with her inner demons. If anything, I think it’s kind of telling that the only way she knew how to get away from all the stresses in her life was via yet another romantic entanglement. Could it be that she didn’t know any other way to relate to people?

On another note, Michelle Williams is a fine actress and I have no doubt she’ll be great in this film, but does it bother anyone else how little she resembles Marilyn Monroe? Marilyn had those big, droopy eyes and a somewhat bulbous nose, and her round features helped communicate a kind of childlike vulnerability. Williams, on the other hand, has more catlike eyes and a cute little upturned nose. Then again, there’s really nobody who looks like Marilyn Monroe, and I have no doubt she’ll bring nuance to the role. It’s a credit to her talents that she could even be considered for two roles as different from one other as Wendy and Lucy‘s destitute, androgynous drifter and one of the most glamorous women of all time.

Global pop star Rihanna looks awesome as Marilyn Monroe on the cover of the October issue of British Vogue. They got the blonde hairdo spot on, and Rihanna’s curves certainly rival Marilyn’s. The dress she’s wearing is a little bit modern for the Monroe look, but maybe they’re trying to position her as the modern version of Marilyn Monroe? Sure, I’ll take it. Good job, British Vogue stylists.

Despite all this fabulousness, though, the washed out tone of her skin is kind of unnerving. Here is a paparazzi shot of what Rihanna looks like normally:

I’ve noticed this trend in the past, and it’s just strange. Why are magazine editors hell-bent on ‘shopping everyone from Mandy Moore to Beyoncé to be that same “white person with a tan” hue? (I’ve noticed they make pale white people look tanner sometimes, too.) I don’t want to sound Sesame Street obvious, but beauty comes in all shades. If Rihanna can be a modern Marilyn Monroe in Armani Prive couture, she can certainly be a Barbadian Marilyn Monroe with her actual, gorgeous skin color.
