I have seen two excellent movies recently, and both had excellent soundtracks so I thought I would share:
Slumdog Millionaire, winner of multiple awards at the Golden Globes, is definitely one of the year’s best films. The film is superbly enhanced by the amazing soundtrack, with songs by M.I.A. and A.R. Rahman, one of Bollywood’s best soundtrack engineers. The frenetic and energetic Mumbai, India is shot beautifully on film and the accompanying music could not fit more perfectly.

I finally made my way over to the new(ish) venue (le) Poisson Rouge in the West Village. Let me tell you it is niiiice. I love the decor, from the painting on the walls to the cloth covered chairs, and the sight lines and sound are great. If you’re unaware of the Wordless Music Series, than you are missing out. The series pairs rock and electronic musicians with more traditional classical and chamber music performers, demonstrating “that the various boundaries and genre distinctions segregating music today…are an artificial construction in need of dismantling.” The shows usually take place at the Good Shepherd Faith Church, the Church of St. Paul the Apostle, or the Society for Ethical Culture, all of which provide an intimate, inspirational setting.
