Times New Viking (who have one of my favorite band names ever) have a new album coming out on September 22 called Born Again Revisted. Naturally, they are going on tour. This includes three New York-area dates:
November 18 at Mercury Lounge, tickets are on sale now
November 19 at Union Pool, no tickets yet
November 20 at Maxwell’s with Axemen, tickets are on sale now

Roman Candle Interview
Chapel Hill-based band Roman Candle are on tour and are in NYC now to play three shows with The Deep Vibration. Tonight (Friday) they are at Pianos and tomorrow (Saturday) they will be at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. The shows are presented by Paste Magazine and WOXY–pretty good pedigree. El Guincho Playing Free Show Tonight, I’m From Barcelona Coming Soon
Recently named Best New Music by Pitchfork, El Guincho is in town from Barcelona and is playing a free show for Other Music at Union Pool in Brooklyn tonight. Apparently he rocked it at SXSW and at Mercury Lounge last night, so this seems like a good show to check out.
Incidentally, the very large band I’m From Barcelona, who are actually from Sweden, will be at Maxwell’s on April 25 and at a boomBOOM presents show at Brooklyn Masonic Temple… More »

Yo La Tengo Played Eighth and Final Hannukah Show
Yo La Tengo have a tradition of playing eight shows at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ–their hometown–on the eight nights of Hannukah every year. The shows usually feature special guests and great openers and this year’s shows were no different. Openers included the dBs and the New Pornographers and special guests like Eugene Mirman showed up to make the audience laugh.
