Kelsey Grammer weighs in on Medium's Friday night slot

“Once you let the audience know that it’s gonna be there for a while, then they will find it.” Medium producer Kelsey Grammer is obviously happy that CBS picked up his show after it was canceled by NBC. In fact, it’s funny how giddy he gets when he’s taking shots at Medium’s former network. Relations between CBS and NBC were strained for a while before Medium’s move, and the fact that, according to Grammer, even CBS head, Les Moonves took shots at NBC probably didn’t help matters much.

It’s a short clip and it doesn’t really share anything new, but it’s nice to see another person involved in the show confirm what fans already know: it’s in exactly the right place.

Video of Patricia Arquette on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Patricia Arquette was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson last night to promote Medium (of course). Craig, being completely insane, derailed the interview though, and started hilariously talking about the Twilight kids (“I like vampires I can be afraid of, not some douchebag with his hat on backwards.”). To be fair, it was Patricia who first brought up vampires, after she was talking about how the first time she drove through New Orleans, everyone she encountered was toothless– while she, on the other hand, has fangs.

She was also trying to talk about how happy she was to have Medium on CBS now, but Craig also made that into a joke, saying that the “C” in CBS stands for “classy,” while the “‘BS’ speaks for itself.” She did, however, manage to talk a little bit about the Night of the Living Dead episode they’re filming, and how excited she is to be a zombie.

Jake Weber as a College Kid

Despite the fact that Weber had an insane childhood, it didn’t take him long to find a more traditional path in life. In 1986, Weber enrolled as a student at Middlebury College in Vermont, majoring in English and Political Science. He’s also apparently quite the singer, having been a member of the Dissipated Eight, a very popular, all-male a capella group. The group was so good, in fact, that not only did they tour the country, but they even played the White House.

About his close encounter with President Ronald Reagan, Weber says,

“Yeah, I have a picture of myself with him, but I blacked out his face when I was in a stupor at one point.”

So maybe he hadn’t completely left his hippie past behind in England.

This article gives a nice bit of insight into the life of a very private man, and the path he took in order to get where he is today. Perhaps the best part at the entire piece though, is that once again, he can’t resist getting a little dig in to NBC. When talking about Medium’s move to CBS, he had this to say,

“CBS is doing a lot more promotion and put us on the fall schedule, which is much better than starting in mid-season as we did on NBC. Over there, we felt like poor stepchildren. But nothing has changed radically about the story,” Weber says. “She still sees dead people.”

Finally, Some New Medium Footage

As a few of you have pointed out in the comments, CBS has finally released a Medium promo that actually features new footage. It’s a really great, as it has footage from the actual premiere, as well as footage of them filming, and interviews. Patricia Arquette talks about how she’s been wanting to be on CBS for oh, about six years or so, while Sofia Vassilieva talks about Ariel’s new role as basically a backup parent, and how she’s dealing with that in addition to trying to lead a normal teenage life. My favorite part though, is Jake Weber talking about how poor Joe is outnumbered by all of these psychic women he lives with.

The entire thing is funny and charming, and makes me really excited that the new season is starting up tonight.

If I Didn't Know Any Better, I Would Say That There Is No Season 6 of Medium

We’re basically all in agreement that moving over to CBS is going to be a great move for Medium. It’s on with shows that make sense, it’s starting at a normal time of year, and CBS seems to be actually interested in promoting it. However, I’ve noticed something kind of funny: even though the sixth season of Medium premieres in less than a month, we have yet to see any new footage of it.

CBS has been promoting the show all summer, and I could totally understand that they wanted new viewers to become familiar with what has already happened before delving into season 6. However, CBS aired its Fall Preview the other night, which featured Medium (and is available On Demand from most cable services), but didn’t show a single frame from the new season. We couldn’t even get new footage in the Ghost Whisperer/Medium promo that CBS also just started airing.

I’ll admit that I’m kind of baffled on this one. I would think that they’d want to show people at least something from the new season that we’re supposed to be tuning in for, but apparently CBS disagrees. What do you think the motive is? Will we have to wait until September 25 before we see anything new?

NBC Kicks Medium to the Curb

In its most insane move ever, NBC got rid of Medium. Hello? Are they completely off their rockers over there? Before you sink into a deep decline, all is not lost. There is a chance that CBS will pick up the show instead.

A merry band of Twitterers is spreading the news far and wide and bloggers are frantically blogging. With all of the buzz, hopefully the chance will become a definite yes and we’ll be enjoying Medium on CBS for years to come. By the way, it wouldn’t hurt to send out a Tweet to CBS to save #medium. Or if you don’t do Twitter, why not shoot a quick Save Medium!! message through the CBS website?

Now, please stay tuned for a further rant about the sheer mind numbing lameness of NBC: So, umm…Leno is mildly amusing at Midnight if I have insomnia. Do they really think I’ll flip over at 10 pm from another channel where there is a clever sitcom or great mystery show airing so I can listen to him ask really non-bright individuals who the last President of the US was? Really? They really think it was a smart move to replace Medium with Leno? Alrighty then. (Waves goodbye to NBC as it drifts further and further into the far reaches of the television Twilight Zone.)

You know, I just realized this whole post is completely superfluous. I could have just done this:

Yeah, I think that just says it all.
