PETA Is Pissed Off At Tyler Shields’ Raw Meat Photoshoot With Mischa Barton

We’re upset about Mischa Barton‘s bizarre photoshoot with Tyler Shields where she gnaws on raw meat like an animal because of how exploitative it is. On the other hand, PETA is pitching a fit because they don’t like how raw meat is working its way into pop culture.

The animal rights group is referring, we assume, to Lady Gaga‘s raw meat dress at the 2010 MTV VMAs. Always eager for press, they gave an exclusive statement to TooFab:

This raw meat stuff is getting old and may not only hurt and kill cows, it may hurt Mischa, because so much meat is infected with salmonella, E. coli, and campylobacter that licking it is like licking a toilet.

In addition to this being completely unoriginal, it’s completely callous—flesh from a tortured animal isn’t a joke, isn’t camp, and isn’t cool. Meat is full of blood, is produced with violence, and causes great suffering.

It’s this kind of narrow-mindedness that I can’t stand. PETA needs to get it through their thick skulls that not everyone is going to convert to vegetarianism. There is nothing wrong with eating meat (properly, yes), and they can’t keep using the argument about how the animal was killed. It’s dead; you can’t bring it back to life, so get over it.

And really, PETA cares more about the animal that created this slab of meat than the mental state of a failed actress — a human, let’s not forget — who would agree to such a gross, unappealing shoot?

We may not agree with Tyler’s artistic choices, but we have to applaud him for his response:

“I did not kill the cow, I just bought the meat. If they feel like I should be using lettuce instead of meat, I will see if I can work that into something.”

Not sure if he’s joking or being serious — PETA’s idea of a campaign is to have Pamela Anderson and Alyssa Milano wear lettuce clothing — but either way… Good one.

I’ve been going through this thing lately where I can’t stop thinking about buying a pair of leather pants. Here’s why: I assume that if I own leather pants, I’ll automatically be super good at pool. And I really, really want to be super good at pool. But I am not, hence the leather pants. I’ve gotten nothing but encouragement every time I say, “I think I’d like to get some leather pants,” but I suspect my friends might be screwing with me. So, when in doubt, I look to the celebs for guidance. Rihanna, Kate and Kate: I bet you guys are so effing good at pool.

Famous ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ Alumni

Many hearts were broken – including ours – when ABC announced the cancellation of two of their long-running soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live. Though soaps get a reputation for being full of evil twins and demonic possessions (which, sometimes, they kinda are), soaps are also a breeding ground for young talent.
