We Crashed A MAXIM Casting Call (And This Is What Happened)

Tuesday was my first day at TheGloss! Yeah! I packed my lunch, I wore my cool rag & bone jeans (kickbacks? Anyone?) and headed to the offices in beautiful Midtown Manhattan. I was barely there an hour before they sent me out on my first assignment! And they gave me a camera! And a notebook! I’m not going to be one of those interns who just gets everybody coffee. I have a REAL ASSIGNMENT. And what is my first assignment? A Maxim open call. That’s all the information I have going in. In my head (and because I’m wearing a trench coat) I jump at the opportunity to say this is an undercover piece. Undercover how, I’m not sure… but I’ll figure out the details later and maybe score some airbrushed photos in the process. And then glory will be mine! Glory and a Peabody. More »

Hot Shots: Beautiful Model Boys Backstage at Fashion Week

New York-based men’s label Duckie Brown showed their new line at NYC Fashion Week this afternoon, and it meant lots of super-skinny, angelic-faced model boys. Like this lovely gentleman above who — oh my god — might actually be a teenager?

Oh man, this one actually looks like he might be even younger. But he’s such a delightful little cherub. Maybe it’s just the hoodie that’s aging him down.

Okay, this one looks to be at least 20, right? Please tell me I’m right. I’m starting to feel impossibly creepy.

The Youngest Kardashian Will Walk In Avril Lavigne’s Fashion Show

14-year-old Kylie Jenner, the littlest member of the Kardashian-Jenner family, is getting ready to make her runway debut as part of Avril Lavigne‘s showing of her Abbey Dawn line at New York Fashion Week next Monday. The queen of mall punk style might not be the first person you’d mentally associate with the Kardashians, but they are actually pretty good friends. You see, Avril Lavigne is now dating Brody Jenner, half-brother to Kylie and step-brother to Kim, and hung out with the Kardashian klique at Kim’s recent wedding.

Despite the people involved, this is marginally less annoying than the whole “Ali Lohan iz high fashun” thing, because Avril Lavigne is not using her to model couture. The hoodie-and-t-shirt heavy collection is designed to appeal to insouciant teens who hang out at Hot Topic, so it’s definitely age appropriate. Does young Kylie dress like that in real life? Probably not. But maybe this will activate some dormant neo-Goth-punk-emo urges in her, which would be fun. Can you imagine her showing up to the family dinner table with an eyebrow ring and one of those Myspace exit wound haircuts? Or hiding in her room listening to Good Charlotte? Or dating that creepy Trace Cyrus kid??? Please, please, please let this happen.

Bret Easton Ellis and Alex Pettyfer Both Want Alex Pettyfer to Star in ‘Glamorama’

Last we heard, the film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis‘ novel Glamorama (about models-turned-terrorists) was stalled, with director Roger Avary to helm it but no actual deal worked out. Avary adapted The Rules of Attraction as well as Glitterati, a short film that acts as sort of a bridge between the two books — so he seems to have the support of all involved. But now there may be a new entrant to Ellis’ world: Current Hollywood bad boy Alex Pettyfer.

Ellis tweeted that he and Pettyfer got drinks in LA last week, and the Glamorama adaptation came up. Ellis tweeted,

Had a drink with Alex Pettyfer at The Polo Lounge last week. He wants to play Victor Ward in “Glamorama” and admittedly I’m intrigued…

Obviously this is just two people having a conversation and not casting news, but for the record, we really like this idea. Pettyfer can easily draw on his Hollywood status — as well as his arrogant high school senior in Beastly — to play Glamorama‘s pretty but dumb protagonist Victor Ward. On top of that, he’s modeled for brands like Burberry.

It’s worth pointing out here that one actor has already embodied this character: Kip Pardue played Victor Johnson in both Rules and Glitterati. But that was almost a decade ago, and since Glamorama picks up soon after Rules, it makes sense that they’d cast a younger guy to keep the continuity going.

A Look Back at Petra Nemcova’s Tenure on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Historically, models have not fared well as Dancing with the Stars contestants – they often lack the name recognition of actors or athletes. Though Paulina Porizkova and Josie Maran were not long for Dancing, it seemed like Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova had a chance of breaking the “model curse.” Because of her well-known story about surviving the Indian Ocean tsunami several years ago, she was able to connect with the audience and translate her story into a beautiful dance. Unfortunately, her good scores weren’t enough to keep her on the show, as she was eliminated last night. Let’s look back on a couple of her best dances with partner Dmitry Chaplin.

On Friday, Crushable went down to the Ugg Australia Model Lounge in Union Square for a pre-fashion week chat with some of the young girls who actually live out the fantasies you hear about on America’s Next Top Model. How did you get started in modeling?
Mey Bun (27): I started at 20 years old. I’ve done Target, Sports Max, Virgin Mobile. I was discovered on the street a few times. My agent, the one I had now, we ran into each other several times in one year, and after so many times you have to start thinking, “Is there a reason for this?” I though I might as well jump on this opportunity, because growing up I never had any interest in clothes or fashion, but people told me I should model.

What street were you discovered on?
Ha! It was during gay pride week in New York. I’m from here.

Your first year of modeling, what was the biggest challenge for you?
Well I was already out of high school, so I was just beginning to discover who I was. And there’s all this pressure on your looks in this industry, and I just didn’t conform at all. I didn’t know how to make these outfits “work,” because I was a tomboy.

Video: Major ‘Australia’s Next Top Model’ Goof

Things got super awkward during yesterday’s Australia’s Next Top Model finale after host Sarah Murdoch announced the wrong winner. This season, A(u)NTM decided to select its champ via an audience vote, and broadcasted the result live. The not-winner got halfway through her “I love my fans so much” speech before Sarah was informed of the mistake. Whoops!

We had no idea it would be so easy to feel bad for a model.
