The names of a bunch of possible actresses looking to play the role of Barbie have been floating around. One of them including Hilary Duff! Other names associated with this are Lindsay Lohan, Hayden Panettiere, Blake Lively and Dakota Fanning.

Well, that would certainly be interesting! No doubt, Hilary would do a good job. Would you guys watch a movie about Barbie, starring Hil?

The DVD may also come out in Latin America (Argentina, Mexico and Brazil) on the same day and possibly will go to DVD in the UK in 2010. I will keep you posted about news on the US distribution as soon as it is official!

One source, reportedly one of the writers of Greta, says that the producers of the film have secured domestic (US) distribution. This means the movie will go to theaters, though whether that’s select theaters or a full-run is still to be determined. The same source says they’re hoping for a Fall release.

Another source, Voltage Pictures, says that Anchor Bay (the distribution company) says the film will be “going theatrical at some time.”

Hopefully that means we’ll have an official announcement about the film soon!!

The new movie will be directed by Shane Taylor and produced by Jay McPhaul. It sounds like an independent film. Reported to co-star alongside Hilary Duff and Toby Keith are Pell James and Bruce McGill.

The film, Provinces of Night, is based upon a novel of the same name by William Gay. The book is set in 1952 and follows the story of E.F. Bloodworth, a man who has returned to his Tennessee home after 20 years of roaming. The wife he left has faded and his three sons are grown up and angry – one a womanizing alcoholic, one driven to jealously hunt down his wife’s lover and one who puts hexes on his enemies. With all his sons hating him, Bloodworth finds solace in his grandson, Fleming, who respects him and his age. Fleming learns from the men in his family how anger can poison the soul and he rejects it for his true love, the beautiful Raven Lee. I’m going to assume that Hilary Duff is Raven Lee.

Filming for Provinces of Night will take place in Wilmington, NC for five weeks.

Hilary Duff has a number of movie projects currently awaiting release / production: Foodfight!, Greta, Safety Glass, Stay Cool, and The Story of Bonnie & Clyde.

Hilary Duff admitted she was obsessed with the series, so perhaps it’s not so long a shot. The insight comes from an overheard conversation between Hilary Duff and Peter Facinelli who played Dr. Carlisle Cullen in Twilight:

“Hilary told Peter [Facinelli] how bad she wants to be in the next Twilight movie. Hilary said that she would want to be one of the vampires in the movie.”
