Most of the time, kids are told that cartoons and comics aren’t real. Luckily, some adults still don’t heed that childhood warning. Two men, who are producers of How Hard Can It Be?, Ben Bowie and Ian White, were inspired by the animated movie Up. They were curious to see if, like in the movie, it would be possible to “fly” a house. More »
There are a couple high-school experiences everyone remembers. Their first kiss. Prom (or not going to it). The time they blew up a car in a ditch…no wait, that only happened on Skins. But we all remember reading Stephen Chbosky‘s coming-of-age novel The Perks Of Being A Wallflower in high school and thinking “This is totally my life.” And while there is an argument to be made against turning every piece of nostalgia into a film, we totally think that the upcoming movie adaptation of this quintessentially pre-emo book will be beloved by hipsters as much as the source material was. Despite casting troubles that were only resolved last week, the Edgar Allan Poe film, The Raven, has already begun filming. And here’s the first pics of John Cusack, looking totally the part of the brooding father of goth. Wonder if his character will have sex with his cousin, or if the writers plan to just omit that part of the author’s life story. More »
Hot off the presses: Which film and television starlet is drowning her sorrows over a recent public breakup by pulling a Lindsay Lohan? No, not running over small children with her car: This actress has apparently decided to try out for the other team, and has been seen around New York tarted up in goth apparel, “draping herself” over female friends, according to our sources. See If You Can Hear ‘True Blood”s’ Ryan Kwanten’s Voice In That Owl Movie – We honestly thought this was some sort of Harry Potter spin-off, but apparently Legends of the Guardian is a very real movie, with Jason Stackhouse in his native Aussie accent. Can you hoo-hoo-hear it? (via YouTube)

We have hope for Enter the Void, a film about a guy in Japan who dies and moves onto an after-life in some crazy, rave-colored Tokyo to watch over his sister. It’s not rotoscoping, but gives us that same feeling of “How did they do that?!” that’s alternately awe-inspiring and a little bit unnerving (we’re not going to call it ‘the next big thing’ either, till we know what it is. We’ll just say it looks a lot better than Tron: Legacy and leave it at that. More »
Justin Bieber is coming out with a movie! In 3D!!! D’uh: You already know this, because he tweeted it earlier today and it immediately showed up on your Bieber-feed. Though details of the movie are still scarce – mainly because it will be based on a memoir that Justin is still – we’ve scored an exclusive list of the top 10 super-secret features that will make the Justin Bieber movie better than any other film, ever. Justin Bieber Gets 3D Film Based On His Newly-Announced Memoir – There are so many jokes we could make here about this kid trying to cash in all his chips this week (and how much of a ‘life story’ can a 16-year-old have, anyway?!), but really, we just want to make sure our glasses are clean before we get the full 3D Biebs experience. In the same vein as “Get Out Of There” and “Mirror Scares,” this new trend of super cutting common movie tropes has finally produced an homage of every (well, not every, but close enough) Hollywood action cliche in the book. Examples include “turning head around fast,” “walking slowly with purpose,” and the infamous “running up/down stairwells.” Hey, cool guys don’t look at explosions.

What is wrong with Ashton Kutcher? He tries so hard to be on the cutting edge of the techno-savvy networking culture, and yet he still pulls some of the stupidest Internet 101 mistakes in the book. For instance, Ashton uploaded the first 10 minutes of his new film Killers last night for the premiere, but then had to take it down because you know…legality and stuff.
Which would be a fine viral marketing scheme…if it wasn’t just a flagrant slap in… More »
Footloose Remake Sends Out Casting Notice – Paramount probably hopes that one of these no-name kids that come to the cattle call will end up being good enough to put in the lead role they can’t seem to fill. Best part of ad: “YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A TRAINED DANCER BUT A QUICK LEARNER.” Movie magic! (via Hollywood Reporter)
Movie Marketing for Get Him To The Greek Officially Out Of Hand - Russell Brand made out with a GILF right in front of her grandson to promote his new film. Or because he’s a weird sex addict. Either way…ew. (via Vulture)
‘Eat, Pray, Love’ Poster Features Julia Roberts Doing At Least Two Of Those Things - Personally, we prefer Gabe Delahaye‘s version, “Fart, Fart, Barf.” Because we are 10-years-old and think its funny to draw mustaches on famous people. (via Videogum)
Did you hear that Bring It On is heading to Broadway?
Bring it on.
Translating the campy-fun cheerocracy to the stage is something we can get behind — if it’s handled right. There have been a slew of announcements in the past few years about intrepid producers attempting to transform film favorites into Broadway-bound musicals (looks like the whole “remake” trend isn’t isolated to Hollywood). Clueless, Heathers, Teen Witch and The Notebook are all rumored to be on their way to the… More »
A new teaser trailer for Lindsay Lohan’s movie Labor Pains has been released!
Labor Pains, which wrapped filming this summer, tells the story of Thea (Lindsay Lohan), a young assistant at a Military Publishing House who struggles to support herself and her younger sister Emma. It’s a job she hates but not one she can afford to lose.
On the cusp of being fired, Thea decides to lie and say she’s pregnant. And sees a whole new life, one filled… More »
Crushable Commenter of the Week: Diego Argues That ‘Gay’ Can Be Funny
This week, Liana argued that the trailer for the upcoming Vince Vaughn film The Dilemma looked terrible and offensive: It was going for cheap laughs with homophobic humor. Vince even made a point, we found out, to keep this joke in the trailer, which is what…standing on some sort of principle? We don’t know.
But a surprisingly insightful comment did come from commenter Diego, who argued that keeping gay jokes entirely out of the cultural lexicon isn’t necessarily the solution. More »
