It’s that time again: Magical movie where two people switch bodies and learn that the grass is not always greener and that they should value their own existences, no matter how uncool/directionless they are! The latest offering is The Change-Up, where family man Jason Bateman and stoner playboy Ryan Reynolds wish for each other’s lives. Drugs! Divorce! Naked Olivia Wilde! But before we get to all that, here are nine other movies (compiled by myself and our intern, Molly Horan) that use the same trope, with varying results. You may know more than a few of these, but we guarantee that you haven’t heard of Sex, Drugs, & Natalie Portman! More »
In The Devil’s Double, Dominic Cooper had to play two very different men: Uday Hussein (the son of Saddam) and his body double, Latif Yahia. Although Cooper took on both roles, even he had to rely on the saving grace of many actors: A stand-in who would hold the other character’s spot in scenes that featured Uday and Latif, as Cooper then recited the opposite lines.
Even in movies where the star plays only one character, he or she uses stunt doubles for fearsome action sequences, and stand-ins for the long hours between shots. We’ve found the professional doubles for Kate Beckinsale, Robert Pattinson, Lea Michele, and others… and the resemblance is quite uncanny. More »

I know, I know — your first reaction is probably the one that I had. “This is old news! We already know these movies are dealing with the same best-friends-sleep-together-then-fall-in-love story.” But neither of us is as awesome as The Blind Film Critic, who mashed up the two trailers to show that even the perspective shots are the exact same. (OK, so he probably didn’t make it himself, but he had someone combine the trailers to show the truth.) More »

Maybe Reese Witherspoon‘s comments — that her kissing scenes with Robert Pattinson in Water for Elephants were lackluster — are getting to the Twilight star, because he told MTV News that he’s feeling the pressure to nab Best Kiss for the third year in a row at the MTV Movie Awards on June 5.

Fantasy flick Your Highness, from Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green, actually seems a lot like a stoner comedy set in the woods. And while the movie — starring James Franco, Danny McBride, and Natalie Portman — had a few snicker-worthy moments, the most interesting element was this incongruous combination.
Highness, written by McBride, isn’t the first movie to ground its characters in the familiar medieval setting of castles and warlocks’ towers, arm them with bows and arrows and formal speech, but then pepper every interaction with anachronistic pop culture references. More »

Last week a minor controversy rose up around Black Swan, when Natalie Portman‘s body double Sarah Lane claimed that Fox Searchlight had prohibited her from doing interviews before the Oscars so that voters would believe that Portman had done the majority of her dancing in the film. Now, director Darren Aronofsky has issued a statement defending his star and himself. More »
