When not breaking records as the first female footballer of her school, 13-year-old Paris Jackson is turning down offers to appear as a spokesperson for lingerie football leagues and -- apparently -- taking film roles. The middle Jackson child is slated to play the heroine in a fantasy film entitled Lundon's Bridge And The Three Keys. The film in based on a young adult series by author Dennis H. Christen. The plot details a particular type of magic that changes a dolphin into a human. Later, a darker spell transforms a young boy into a dragonfly and a "good jellyfish queen" becomes a sinister fairy godmother, according to Daily Mail. Profits from this film will reportedly go towards funding American public school system in some capacity. More »

Video: Rescue Cats Make Jail 100% More Adorable

Well, this is just heartwarming. Inmates at a Nebraska jail who volunteered at a local animal shelter were recently given the chance to adopt two cats from the shelter, making jail suck just a little bit less for them. “I wondered how those would work out in the jail as far as helping the guys pass time,” said Jerome Kramer, the sheriff who had the idea, “and just feel a little more at ease.” Wow, that’s way nicer than I expected a sheriff in Nebraska to be to inmates. “…And possibly less destructive to our new facility.” Aaaah, I see.

The inmates look unspeakably happy to be petting and playing with the two kitties, Nemo and Sarge, especially that first one. Look at that boyish grin! What’s he in for, stealing lollipops? Another inmate featured, a slightly more imposing looking fellow, is into it, too. “It just brings out the soft part in you, like when your kids do,” he explained. Time spent with a furry friend is time spent not shanking anyone.

There are actually a bunch of animal-related programs in jails across the country, and studies have shown that they help make inmates feel less stressed and hence less likely to start trouble. In one, inmates train shelter dogs to make them adoptable, saving the dogs’ lives and learning a valuable job skill in the process. Most inmates do eventually get released, and it helps keep them from committing more crimes if they are not hard, hollow husks of people when they walk out of there. Adorable animals: rehabilitating America’s prison population, one cuddle at a time.

CSI, Law & Order, Cold Case, NCIS, Homicide: Life on the Street, America’s Most Wanted, COPS… Is it just me, or has there been an overabundance of crime-based television programming in recent years? Sure, crime makes for compelling drama; the whodunit has been around for ages, and it always sells like hotcakes (which, it may be assumed, is pretty fast). But as with all media consumed by the public, there’s always a big ol’ question hovering over it: How is what we’re consuming affecting us in real life? Given what importance the United States places on the strength of its criminal justice system, this question is especially relevant in relation to all of this crime-based stuff TV inundates us with today. But how can we even begin to answer it? Some folks at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln had an idea: why not conduct a study examining this very thing?

Lisa Kort-Butler and her team took it upon themselves to survey 784 non-institutionalized adults over the age of 19 living in Nebraska with the goal of determining how crime-based television programming affected the opinions of the viewers. The programming ranged from fictional shows to newscasts, and the survey questions covered the subjects’ views of the criminal justice system, of fitting the punishment to the crime, and of whether they believed crime rates were rising. Here’s what they found:

This live broadcast from a local San Diego station is an absolute disaster. Everything goes wrong! It’s so ridiculous we almost suspect this is actually a pre-planned sketch.

Brad Pitt not back in the States :(

As I suspected, Brad and family are not back home. He was back in the airport in southern France taking more flying lessons yesterday. Ramie has pictures, but I haven’t found them yet in non microscopic sizes, so when they come out, I will update! For now, here is an oldie but goodie, cause this page has gotten downright ugly again!
