Video: Miley Cyrus Covers ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’
In case you had any nostalgic feelings left over for the ’90s, go ahead and get rid of them. At a recent show in Lima, Miley Cyrus performed a cover of Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and told the crowd to “break the rules.” I assume one of the rules she was talking about breaking was the one about not doing terrible covers of classic songs. Yesterday marked the 17th anniversary of Kurt Cobain‘s death, and everybody’s favorite 30 Seconds to Mars member, Jared Leto, thought a fitting tribute would be to release footage of himself as Kurt. Apparently Jared film the video years ago as a sort of audition for a Cobain biopic project, but it just reads like weird fan fiction to us. Yikes! More »

One of our favorite Idol contestants is the bearded, growly-voiced Casey Abrams, who returned from an emergency trip to the hospital (stomach ulcers, the poor guy) to perform “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on last night’s episode. Mike Judge‘s seminal 90s cartoon about dillholes, Beavis and Butt-Head, is returning to MTV. Even though we’re girls and are supposed to like Daria waaaay more, this development is super exciting. Imagine what these two could do to Katy Perry or Rihanna videos!
At the same time, we have some reservations. After all, that “making fun of the tv” thing seems so 90s (Mystery Science Theatre, anyone?). Plus, could anything ever top the brilliant yet inane analyses of these two dumbasses during the show’s first run? More »

Frances Bean takes out restraining order against her mother Courtney Love
Kurt Cobain must be spinning in his grave right about now. His daughter Frances Bean had to take out a restraining order against her crazy mother Courtney Love.
Now, not only has Courtney lost all legal control and guardianship over her daughter, she’s also legally obligated to stay away from her for an unlimited duration of time. Frances has asked to live with her grandmother while this whole mess is being straightened out.
