Although Congress may not be familiar with all, or even most of their names, a bunch of artists and creators got together to sign an extraordinarily letter in protest of SOPA/PIPA. Among those who put their John Hancock on the protest letter were Trent Reznor, OK GO, Aziz Ansari from Parks and Recreation and a bunch more. More »
Last week we posted the rough cut of OK Go‘s Muppet Show cover — now, here’s the official music video. It’s really smart, with throwbacks to the Muppets’ physical gags as well as the treadmill moves for “Here It Goes Again” that made the band famous. But easily the best part of the video is seeing how utterly thrilled lead guitarist Damian Kulash and the others were about their chance to rub elbows with these famous puppets. More »
OK Go has always been forthcoming with their love for the Muppets; you can find plenty of YouTube videos of the bandmates having a staring contest with Animal, or gleefully meeting Kermit the Frog. So we were psyched when we found out that not only are they part of The Green Album, a collection of covers of Muppets-related songs by artists like The Fray and Hayley Williams, but they also had the honor of performing the theme song. It’s a little rougher than the version we grew up with, but you can tell it’s a labor of love. More »
On April 25, husband-and-wife creative superforce Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer teamed up with Ben Folds and OK Go’s Damian Kulash for one night and one night only. The goal: To write and record a six-song EP to be released the next day. A tall order, perhaps, but for these guys, an infinitely achievable one. They called themselves 8in8, and the resulting EP, Nighty Nighty, is pretty spectacular. They released it under a creative commons license, hoping that people would then take the songs and make music videos for them, and believe you me, the people have certainly pulled out all the stops! The ten most wonderful “Internet films” of 2010 – Cats dressed as people, a Tatar band, and a couple things that will probably make you cry. If you’re as sappy as we are, anyway. (The Awl)
We’re calling it now: OK Go will go down in history as the band with the best music videos ever. Internet famous for 2006′s treadmill-themed vid for “Here We Go Again,” the foursome is back with a new single-shot masterpiece for their song “White Knuckles.” The dudes appear clad entirely in white and frolic with a gang of adorable show dogs. Needless to say, we’ve been watching it all afternoon. More »
OK Go! Versus The Muppets – We must have missed this at the Webby’s: Dan Konopka from Ok Go! in a staring contest with Animal from the Muppets. And for some reason, Ira Glass and Zach Galifianakis are both there. Juuuust chillin’. (via Buzzfeed)
For this week’s Stars on the Spot, we camped out on various red carpets and asked celebs who they would want to play them in a movie about their lives. But since one of the events we hit was the Webby Awards, some Internet stars got in the mix, too.
Here are some of our favorite answers:
Actress Kristen Bell:
“Me! I think I could do the best job.”
Supermodel Marisa Miller:
“I am a huge fan of Jessica Biel, I think she’s amazing. And… More »
The Webby Awards, which honor excellence on the Internet, announced the winners of their 14th annual awards this morning, with celebs like Jim Carrey and Amy Poehler, OK Go and Roger Ebert taking home some of the top prizes.
The Webby Awards are unique because they award prizes in each category based on the votes of official judges like Martha Stewart, Matt Groening, and Arianna Huffington, as well as “People’s Awards,” which are voted on by people around the world. This… More »
Ok Go just released a new music video for the song “This Too Shall Pass.” It is predictably amazing, considering their past efforts. The Rube Goldberg machine they built for the shoot took several months to build, so they’re probably already in the process of creating something even more fantastic for their next single.
