Our partner, HowAboutWe, has been hard at work polling readers to see how many of them are allowed to sleep in the same bed if they bring someone home to their parents’ house. And since the holiday season is underway, it makes perfect sense to inquire about this topic right now.
Of those polled, 40% were allowed to have their boyfriend or girlfriend sleep in the same bed when they brought them home to their parents’ house. While 36% were forced to sleep apart while under their parents’ roof, despite the fact that in some cases the couples had been living together for years. I guess if parents don’t see it, then it’s easier to pretend it doesn’t exist. More »
All About Aubrey was a doozy last night, with fights, inappropriate roommates and a shady father it went all awry for our dear reality/singer. It all started with a Twitter party. Not one to turn away from her fans, she sought out her most loyal, who were chosen through email messages (she received 819 soon after the tweet) and invited them over for a meet and greet at her house. Pretty commendable really – what celebrity have you seen have no qualms having over a bunch of fans in their luxurious mansion? Aubrey, as expected, has some pretty colorful fans. One in particular had two Aubrey-themed tattoos: an A with a musical note and a Danity Kane one. More »
It’s hard not to feel bad for this high school track athlete who clearly does not excel at hurdles. She may not be the worst hurdler in this race, but she is the one whose parents documented it and then set it to motivational music.
The video is pretty amazing, but mostly reminds me how lucky I am that my parents did not have access to a video camera and YouTube when I was in high school. I ran hurdles on the track team. And I’m pretty sure my dad could have come up with something way worse than this to mortify me with. Small blessings, I guess. More »
After you graduate college, you may decide to travel the road less taken. You know what that means: no temping for you, you’re going to start your own tech business, or become a graphic illustrator, or perhaps a taxidermist. And your parents? Well, they might fall into that category of which Will Smith once rapped about.
And in the off chance that your parents don’t just “understand” why they threw $40k down the hole so you could apply for grants to put on your gallery show of menstruation dollies, you don’t have to feel alone anymore. A new web documentary series called “How to Explain It To My Parents” showcases 5 abstract artists trying to explain to their parents what they do for a living. The results are…sort of what you’d expect. Watch this first episode between micro-brewer Arno Coenen and his father. Awwwwkward! More »
The end of September marked my one month anniversary of writing for Crushable. It has been the time of my life! I’ve written more than I ever have in my college and high school career combined – and actually enjoyed it. I’m proud and excited that I finally found something that I love doing. But my new found confidence and comfort in my job is nothing compared to the intense pride my parents feel. I’m actually doing something that isn’t retail or Starbucks (there, I said it, I worked at Starbucks). More »
Summer break is in full swing, and if you have a college sweetheart (because this site is written by your grandma, she says hi and to call her once in awhile, you know, if you have time for an old lady) at some point you guys probably want to meet each other’s respective families. Well, lets be honest: You haven’t gotten laid since the semester ended and you two moved back to your respective hometowns, and you need to see… More »
I was a bit concerned when my mom started singing along like a teenager to “Your Body is a Wonderland” as she got dressed every morning. It didn’t faze me when my brother told me he was going to midnight mass for Christmas, even though we’re Jewish. But when I visited my dad’s apartment and spied a pink paperback and a pair of fluffy slippers beside his bed, I knew we had reached the point of no return.
It was my… More »
