The Daily Show correspondent and sexy geek girl Olivia Munn is the latest celebrity to pose naked for PETA‘s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign, with the billboard being unveiled in Los Angeles yesterday. She joins celebs like Khloe Kardashian and Elisabetta Canalis in baring it all for cute fluffy animals… like the little bunny Photoshopped into the ad with her.

“As a proud person of Chinese descent, it broke my heart to learn just how terribly animals suffer and die on Chinese fur farms and that there are no penalties for this abuse,” she’s said in PETA videos. “When you think about even that little tiny trim of fur on your gloves or on your collar, that is still coming from an animal that had to endure so much pain just for you. There’s nothing good about pretending like you don’t know.”

The animal rights group is referring, we assume, to Lady Gaga‘s raw meat dress at the 2010 MTV VMAs. Always eager for press, they gave an exclusive statement to TooFab:

This raw meat stuff is getting old and may not only hurt and kill cows, it may hurt Mischa, because  so much meat is infected with salmonella, E. coli, and campylobacter that licking it is like licking a toilet.

In addition to this being completely unoriginal, it’s completely callous—flesh from a tortured animal isn’t a joke, isn’t camp, and isn’t cool. Meat is full of blood, is produced with violence, and causes great suffering.

It’s this kind of narrow-mindedness that I can’t stand. PETA needs to get it through their thick skulls that not everyone is going to convert to vegetarianism. There is nothing wrong with eating meat (properly, yes), and they can’t keep using the argument about how the animal was killed. It’s dead; you can’t bring it back to life, so get over it.

And really, PETA cares more about the animal that created this slab of meat than the mental state of a failed actress — a human, let’s not forget — who would agree to such a gross, unappealing shoot?

We may not agree with Tyler’s artistic choices, but we have to applaud him for his response:

“I did not kill the cow, I just bought the meat. If they feel like I should be using lettuce instead of meat, I will see if I can work that into something.”

Not sure if he’s joking or being serious — PETA’s idea of a campaign is to have Pamela Anderson and Alyssa Milano wear lettuce clothing — but either way… Good one.

Have you ever looked at the images and videos put out by PeTA and thought, “why don’t they just cut to the chase and start producing hardcore pornography?” Well, now they have. According to The Huffington Post, PeTA is creating an XXX site on which lithe young people will perform sexual acts for the purpose of raising awareness of animal suffering(?!) It sounds like people will be lured in with promises of sexytimes, and then confronted with graphic images of what happens to animals on a factory farm. So basically, this is the new #1 site for psychopaths who enjoy jerking off to images of animals being tortured.

It would be one thing if PeTA was like, “we here at PeTA have multiple interests. Veganism is one of them. Porn is another,” but they continue to insist that their foray into XXX territory is going to help end animal suffering. Says PeTA spokesperson Lindsay Rajit:

We try to use absolutely every outlet to stick up for animals … We are careful about what we do and wouldn’t use nudity or some of our flashier tactics if we didn’t know they worked. We also track the effectiveness of our actions very closely and see if we get visitors checking out other features on our site.

This is, of course, assuming that clickthroughs=saving animals’ lives. Is PeTA actually run by the meat lobby? Or just by complete idiots? I grow more uncertain with each passing day.

Celebuspawn Brooke Hogan is the latest in a long line of celebrities (using the term loosely) to get naked for ostensibly animal rights related reasons. In a complete and utter parody of itself, PeTA put on a benefit art show un-ironically titled “Women In Cages,” featuring (you guessed it) photos of naked women in cages. They are nothing if not consistent.

Now, I don’t have any problem with women posing for sexy photos, but I will never understand why PeTA thinks said photos are going to make people care about animals. The types of people most likely to go vegan–liberal, hippie, compassionate, feminist types–are not generally the kinds of people who want to see photos of blonde, conventionally attractive women getting naked and pretending to be kitty cats. That sort of looks like a picture of the patriarchy to them. Conversely, the Maxim crowd to whom these photos appeal most are not about to give up their wings on game day. Not without a concrete offer of poontang, at least.

Then there’s the argument that these photos elicit compassion by saying, “well, you wouldn’t want to see this stuff done to a person, so why is it okay to do it to an animal?” But in order to show what actually happens to a factory farmed animal, they’d have to wipe that horny look off Brooke’s face and cover her in urine and feces, pump her full of antibiotics, infect her with some kind of sore causing skin disease, and rip her nose off with no anesthetic (if she’s pretending to be a chicken). Therefore, I call bullshit on this argument. And just because someone cares about humans, doesn’t necessarily mean they care about animals. Shouldn’t it be enough just to educate people about what the actual animals go through, and let them decide how they feel about it?

I’ve been a vegan for eight years and a vegetarian for fourteen, because hey, meat is murder. I often write about sex. I watch porn semi-regularly, and I’ve posed for naked pictures myself. If these photos don’t appeal to me, I’m not sure they have much hope with anyone. I will say, however, that I appreciate how they made her hand disappear into her shadowy vaginal area like that. What’s that hand doing down there? The ambiguity, it is classy.

Last night I bundled up and faced the dastardly winds currently attempting to blow NYC into the Atlantic to attend PETA’s Fashion Week party at the Stella McCartney store. It was over-the-top and ridiculous, of course! The first thing I overheard was an older man saying to his young, pretty companion: “Oh my god, you would loooooove Fashion Week. Everyone is so stylish!” Which made me realize the pair had no idea they were actually at Fashion Week, they just live full-time in a beautiful little bubble filled with thigh-high shoes and men in tuxedos thrusting platters of champagne into their faces. Glamour!

Tim Gunn was there, which made my night, even though he was ushered off backstage before I had a chance to talk* (*profess our love) to him. Also milling about were Lo Bosworth and Taraji Henson who stood next to her controversial naked PETA ad. There were so many funny things, you guys, but I didn’t have a camera, so I drew some pictures that I hope capture the spirit of the event.

We get it, PETA. You are playing on the conceit that everyone thinks you promote your agenda through sexist imagery. You are in on the joke. But…you’re still being overtly, objectively sexist? We’d love to see more PETA ads featuring pics of naked guys eating vegetables, like this one:

Today in absurd celeb causes, Lea Michelle tackles the horse-drawn carriages of New York City — you know, the maybe 15 tourist-transporting carts you see hovering around the perimeter of Central Park. Lea teamed up with PETA to draw attention to this alleged carriage cruelty, a cause Alec Baldwin apparently supports as well. Choice quote: “They’re animals, they’re not cars.”

Does it surprise anyone that Lea Michelle’s a horse lover? We bet she still has all her Lisa Frank notebooks, too.

Instead we got a lengthy argument from Bristol about family love, tolerance, and acceptance. Then she made a really weird lebsian joke at Cho’s expense. Whoops, you almost had us there Bristol!

You say you “don’t agree with the family’s politics at all” but I say, if you understood that commonsense conservative values supports the right of individuals like you, like all of us, to live our lives with less government interference and more independence, you would embrace us faster than KD Lang at an Indigo Girls concert.

That’s a little confusing: Are you saying that Cho would embrace Lang at an Indigo concert? Or that KD Lang likes the Indigo girls? At any rate, Bristol’s ghostwriter is quite obviously older than she is: that joke may have been relevant back when Lilith Fair had it’s first tour.

Sadly, that’s probably the least offensive homophobic slur that family has put on their Facebook notes.

Willow called some guy a faggot for not liking her mom’s show. Sarah herself said that hunting “would make a man out of anyone…and PETA.” (Though that seems less like a gay slur because a lot of PETA supporters are women, and did Sarah Palin just call herself a man?)

At this point, the Palins’ stance on homosexuality seems less like an actual prejudice and more like your dotty aunt who just doesn’t understand “why the gays” keep showing up on her Bravo programs.

Which in no way excuses the ignorant use of homosexuality as a put-down for anyone who doesn’t like these ladies’ shows. As Morning Gloria on Jezebel wrote:

Quite frankly, it’s all starting to get embarrassing. I’m actually embarrassed on behalf of the Palins, those social media-misunderstanding rubes, like how I’m embarrassed for a growing segment of the population that doesn’t seem to understand that Facebook isn’t appropriate for airing most of your personal problems and expecting to get some kind of karmic satisfaction.

Quite true. Even scarier is the fact that the Palins’ reach on Facebook is so much larger than any of us could ever hope to get, and the comment section of Bristol’s recent post reads like fan mail:

This is especially not advantageous to the Palin’s when you consider that this family would actually make perfect gay icons with all their hunting and dancing. You know what they need? A sassy gay best friend to stop Bristol before she writes her next note, asking her “What, what, what are you doing?!“
