Idol Documentary Coming to Gospel Channel

Idol Documentary Coming to Gospel Channel

A one-hour documentary called From Idol to Inspiration will air on the Gospel Music Channel this Thursday, April 23, 2009.  The film “explores the effect of the Fox network singing competition on Christian music.”  I think that is an interesting topic because I have thought about it myself over the years.  There are times, actually, when I’ve thought that Idol had a greater impact on Gospel and Country music than within the Pop genre. Several familiar… More »

Phil Stacey – The Wedding Singer

Phil Stacey - The Wedding Singer

American Idol season 6 cast-off, Phil Stacey, surprised many wedding guests at a reception at the Hyatt in Jacksonville, Florida last weekend.
Abe Salem and Susan Samaan got married last Saturday.
“The two got quite a treat when Stacey got up on stage and sang a song to the happy couple.
Guests from the wedding were outside the reception hall when they saw Stacey standing outside. He was attending a military event.
They asked Stacey to come into the wedding and meet all 600… More »

The Post-Show Post!!!

The Post-Show Post!!!

Well, wasn’t tonight full of surprises! Let’s look at a recap of this evening’s performances.

Melinda Doolittle

Okay, I need to voice my frustration here. Melinda is a fantastic singer. Tonight, she delivered a good performance of “Sway.” That’s right, I said good – not great. Aside from looking like Martin Short with her dance moves, I’m totally tired of her not picking challenging songs. If she is going to consistently pick easy, repetitive tunes, she needs to blow me away -… More »

Movers and Shakers

Yahoo! tracks the searching habits of Idol fans not only by who is being most searched, but also what, in particular, people are searching to find out. Let’s take a look.

Sanjaya is still the overall leader (can you believe the staying power of Antonella and Alaina?)

American Idol Leaders
Rank Idol Move Score
1 Sanjaya Malakar +14
2 Antonella Barba +4
3 Haley Scarnato +5
4 Blake Lewis – 2
5 Melinda Doolittle +1

Hybrids…

Hybrids...

Tonight’s Ford commercial featured the Escape Hybrid. Great for the environment and a nice mix of electric and fuel power.

Speaking of hybrids (totally corny segway, I know), do you have any about our contestants? Do you think that one of the potential Idol winners is a mix of two or more people? Let me know if you do, I’ll post it here. This is my first one:

Travis Wall (So You Think You Can Dance 2, runner up) and Benjamin… More »

Jason’s Results Show Thoughts

Jason's Results Show Thoughts

It’s 11:50pm, the van’s unpacked and I’m sitting in my recliner ready to go. I just got back in from a little family vacation to various locations in Ohio, and am finally getting a chance to sit down and watch the results show for American Idol. Don’t you just love having a DVR?

The show is starting off and they’re going back through the highlights of last night’s show. Lot’s of good performances, and better performances for many. Sadly, someone has… More »

Poseur Idol? Attack of the Clones

Poseur Idol? Attack of the Clones

Wow. Some have called this season’s contestants dull and unoriginal. Tonight might have been an example. Classics are classics and must be respected but, while almost everyone sang well enough, there was little that will keep me up tonight.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO TELLING CONTESTANTS TO TAKE RISKS (Haley risked a “wardrobe malfunction” but that doesn’t count)?

My co-blogger, Jason, has done a fine job live-blogging the show tonight, so I’m just going to add my two cents about the performances.

Blake doesn’t have to beatbox every… More »

Live Blogging – Tuesday Night, April 3

Live Blogging - Tuesday Night, April 3

Let’s see if we can get rid of Sanjaya this week with the Tony Bennett award show. One of the songs that he’s made popular is “Hit the Road Jack”, and hopefully we’ll be able to change that to “Hit the Road Sanjaya”. How old is Tony, but he’s still looking good.

Blake Lewis
Blake is singing “Mack the Knife”, which according to Tony Bennett is “pre-rap” music. He’s nailing it to the floor man! Blake is totally smooth in just about… More »

Top 10 Results Show – Wednesday, March 28th

Top 10 Results Show - Wednesday, March 28th

Will it be tonight? Will it finally happen and we can all be relieved when Sanjaya is voted off? He’s a joke of American Idol now. Granted, at this point he’s not much further above William Hung with regards to talent and respect on the show. When Ryan Seacrest is making jokes of you and coming out with his hair in a faux-hawk, something is definitely wrong here!

I’m looking forward to the live performance tonight from Gwen Stefani. Can’t wait… More »

Only 10 Left – Tuesday Night Performances: Part II

Only 10 Left - Tuesday Night Performances: Part II

Thanks for joining us again for the second half of tonight’s performances.

Phil Stacey
Starting off the last five contestants is Phil Stacey. “Every Breath You Take” by the Police. Gwen was surprised by how good it sounded. Just stick with the melody and let his voice deliver the song. Phil is pulling out a little flashback from last season with Ace Young knit hat look. Not quite the same, but definitely reminiscent. Phil is doing well with the song, the… More »

American Idol – And There Were Eleven

American Idol - And There Were Eleven

It’s time to be back to the two-hour length shows as they combine all 11 contestants into one show again. According to our latest poll, Sanjaya should be going home this week. He’s got 108 votes against him and Haley Scarnato has 17 right now.

The contestants come out Gina and Melinda got their haircut and Phil is bald, oh wait, that’s normal. It was pretty impressive in that Simon Cowell got quite the applause and screams when they announced his… More »

Top 12 Performance Photos – The Guys

Top 12 Performance Photos - The Guys

Probably the most entertaining performer to watch from the guys, but his performance didn’t do much for me at all Tuesday night.

Forgetting the words didn’t help at all, but Brandon’s performance as a whole left much to be desired. Only proved by the point that he was actually voted out by viewers before Sanjaya.

I used to put Chris in the same category with Blake Lewis, but now it seems he’s shifted to more of a country, nasal singer. Too squeaky… More »

Final 12 Performance Show – Part II

Final 12 Performance Show - Part II

Up first after the break is Phil Stacey.

Phil Stacey
Diana really likes the song he’s selected because she sang it with Marvin Gaye. “Make You Love Me”, working out his Harry Connick, Jr. vibe on this song. Love song crooner. He’s really throwing hte guantlet down for himself on this performance. A little falsetto highlight at the end of some notes. I like this song choice because it mixes some nice ballad melody with plenty of energy to highlight his stage… More »

American Idol 6: Week 3 “Guys Night” Part II

American Idol 6: Week 3 "Guys Night" Part II

Welcome back to the second half of my review of the American Idol guy’s performances this week.

Jared Cotter
Before the break we hear that some Stevie Wonder is coming out with Jared Cotter’s performance tonight. Jared played Division II college basketball. When he realized he wasn’t going to make it in the NBA, he gave it up and began pursuing music. He’s got some weird facial expressions when he sings, kind of reminds me of how it looks like Michael Bolton is… More »

American Idol 6: Week 2 “Guys Night”

American Idol 6: Week 2 "Guys Night"

Ryan starts off the show by congratulating Jennifer Hudson for her Oscar, American Idol’s first! Jeff Foxworthy is in the audience tonight. Is it country night? After seeing Sanjaya Malakar’s outfit, I’m putting my money down on him singing a Michael Jackson song. We’re quickly reducing the field of contestants to 6. The lowest two vote getters will be going home, leaving us with eight. Tonight’s show has the contestants dedicating their song to the people that inspire them.

American Idol 6: Week 1 (Live Blogging) Part 2

American Idol 6: Week 1 (Live Blogging) Part 2

Thanks for coming back for the next six contestants.

Up first is Blake Lewis, the beat-boxer, I like him I just want to hear more of his voice. He says he’s going to highlight his voice and only break-out the beat boxing “here and there”. He’s definitely doing that. His tone is so great on this song, which I’m not sure about the title of right now. Not a single sound effect out of his mouth at all except for his… More »
