Emma Stone, Charlize Theron And Elizabeth Olsen Shine At The Critic’s Choice Award’s

With the Golden Globes just a few days away, tonight’s Critic’s Choice Movie Awards was a chance for starlets to test out stylists and red carpet poses. Some — Emma Stone and Elizabeth Olsen to name two — were gorgeous in unusual silhouettes and bright colors. Others were predictably on par in long black dresses or distinctive pantsuits.

We’ve collected our favorite looks from one of the first star-studded red carpet event of the 2012 awards season. Tell us if you agree with our picks.

As promised, here’s the second gallery from my trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida last weekend. (And make sure to check out yesterday’s photos of the park itself.) Now, even though I’m calling this the “VIP” gallery, that doesn’t mean that everything included is super-secret. Several of these photos you’ve seen before, but they’re what I snapped while on our VIP tour of Islands of Adventure as well as Universal Studios. (In fact, we were instructed not to take photos on certain parts of the tour, mostly navigating the “secret passages” between parks.)

There are also several shots from the red carpet, with the cast and crew milling about and answering reporters’ questions, and the afterparty. Did we mention that they closed down the park for this party and we got to ride the coasters and explore the stores without pushing through crowds? Now that was the highlight of the trip.

Which of these three Melancholia actors is your favorite? Personally, I’m going to have to go with Charlotte Gainsbourg. I know she’s wearing sequined pants that make her look like she has a penis, but that weird little Frenchie gets me every time. Actually, maybe that’s part of why I like her.

Oh, Josh Charles, look at you go with your wacky Emmys red carpet antics. The Good Wife star got all grabby on his girlfriend, ballet dancer-turned-Young Adult novelist Sophie Flack. But she didn’t seem to mind. In fact, she looks rather delighted — what a good sport.

The weirdest part about this gesture is that Josh doesn’t seem to be engaging in some sort of sensual act as much as he appears the be checking to make sure Sophie’s breast is still there. Totally intact, Josh! Phew.

Sometime before the Emmys telecast, Martin Scorsese and Heather Morris ended up on the red carpet at the same time. She seems to be laughing at a joke the famous director made, or maybe it’s because at this angle he looks like a hobbit. We’ve come up with a few more possibilities for what’s going on in this meeting of the minds:

Martin: You’ve never even heard of Taxi Driver, have you?
Heather: I host an Internet show about fondue!!

Heather: Am I the White Swan and you’re the Black Swan?

Martin: You think Modern Family will win anything tonight?
Heather: Yeah right!

Heather: Oh sorry, I thought you were Chris Colfer.

This year at the Emmy Awards, it looks like the red carpet is matching the drapes! Oh my god, I am so sorry about that. What I’m trying to say is: a lot of stars wore bright red to the ceremony this year. Whose gown do you like best? I’m throwing my support behind Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev‘s strapless ensemble.

Update: Sofia Vergara and Kerry Washington are killing it as well.

Hot Shot: Taylor Lautner Is a Snappy Dresser at the Abduction Premiere

Even though Kristen Stewart chose Robert Pattinson over Taylor Lautner both in the Twilight movies and real life, you can’t deny that Taylor cleans up a lot better than his funky-haired co-star. We’re not exactly sure what’s behind this pose he struck at Grauman’s Chinese Theater for last night’s Abduction premiere, though. It sort of looks like he might be showing the photographers that his missing-persons character Nathan Price, along with being able to outrun the bad guys, is also a pretty good dancer. We’d believe it!

Video: Kreayshawn Will Make A Charming Red Carpet Host For The VMAs

MTV might not have anyone hosting the actual VMAs this year, but they’re still doing some red carpet segments and a pre-show, for which hosts are pretty necessary. They’ve just announced their red carpet host will be none other than one hit wonder Kreayshawn, who is milking her fifteen minutes for all they’re worth. She announced the gig late last night in a tweet that betrayed some confusion over what, exactly, she was hosting:

Does the pint-sized white rapper have the charisma necessary to host a red carpet segment? The video above points to yes. I mean, look at the charming way she discusses her cat’s bathroom habits. I could listen to that soothing monotone all day.

Seriously though, I think it was kind of a brilliant move for MTV to get someone famous for the line “Gucci Gucci Louis Louis Fendi Fendi Prada/Basic bitches wear that shit so I don’t even bother” to host a segment featuring….probably a bunch of the aforementioned brands. This is not, mind you, because I think she’ll go the Odd Future route and berate the guests for their basic bitch-ness. (Now that would have been an amusing, albeit terrible, choice. Can you imagine Tyler “I want to punch that bitch in the mouth” the Creator confronting Ke$ha with a microphone? Or, more likely, Ke$ha confronting him?) No, it’s brilliant because it’s going to show the degree to which Kreay Kreay is willing to make nice with the basic bitches for a shot at being part of it all.

We’ve already seen Kreayshawn trying to distance herself from V-Nasty’s horrifically offensive use of the n-word, just a few months after defending her own use of it. This girl is willing to play ball on whatever terms she’s given. MTV is a symbol of the pop culture establishment if ever there was one, and they are explicitly offering her the chance to trade in her signature meanness for a fat paycheck, at least for one night. Basically, they’re neutralizing what little threat she posed by buying her off with fame and money. It’s understandable that K would find this to be a pretty good deal. She should be careful, though: as far as we know, her creative well is not exactly the deepest one around, and at the end of the day, she’s still going to need something to put on all those albums Sony is bankrolling.

In addition to being a talented comedic actress, Emma Stone always looks amazing. Like her House Bunny costar Anna Faris, she shifts effortlessly between goofball and sex kitten, and knowing she’s got a brain under all that gorgeous red hair only makes her hotter. She’s not afraid to take risks on the red carpet, and it seems like she really enjoys getting dressed up to go to events. It’s for all these reasons that I’ve made her this week’s Style Crush.
