Since Demi pulled out of a Jonas Brothers concert tour in 2010 citing exhaustion and personal issues, the main rumor that’s dogged her is an alleged cocaine addiction. In late 2010, RadarOnline claimed that there was a video of Demi snorting coke — following allegations from a fellow partier that she did it “like a pro” — but to the best of our knowledge, no video ever actually surfaced. Regardless, the mental association has stuck: A former child star posted a Reddit AMA a few months back where she claimed that Disney tried to distract from Demi’s coke problem; even though the poster was anonymous, everyone believed her.

The MuchMusic interviewer goes by the same assumptions that we’ve all had, mentioning “cross addictions” and asking if Demi’s drug and alcohol problems led to rehab. What’s strange is that while Demi reiterates that she sought treatment for emotional problems only, she never actually denies having problems with drugs and alcohol:

“It actually wasn’t a part of the diagnosis of why I was in rehab. I was there for — pull up the list — bipolar disorder, anorexia, binge-and-purge, cutting, depression, and trauma—post-traumatic stress disorder. It’s no secret that I’ve come out and talked about experimenting with drugs and alcohol, but I also self-medicated a lot as a teenager. It’s hard not to, especially when you’re growing up in Hollywood and you’re around everything you want. It sounds silly, not that this is rebellious at all, but I was going to Disneyland whenever I wanted to. Being in a city where your’e never told no, it’s really difficult not to be in a place where you don’t fall into the temptation.”

This sound bite hits a lot of the same points that Demi did a year ago, when she was discharged from rehab and did the media circuit. The keywords that have remained? Self-medicating, purging, “drinking and drugs,” “numbing the pain.” As far as I know, she hasn’t yet named those specific drugs. You would think that as an internet-savvy teenager, she would have seen the cocaine rumors and rushed to deny those if they were untrue.

However, the 19-year-old was pretty candid when talking about how all of her drinking — especially partying hard during the manic episodes of her recently-diagnosed manic-depression — has been underage: “I really didn’t care about the law at that point. I was trying to numb my pain, and that’s all that mattered.”

Something still rubs me the wrong way about them not referencing the BlindGossip fiasco at all. I’d call bullshit on the “recent” timing, but Demi’s red hair seems to match these photos from a Seventeen magazine event in early January 2012. The fact that a popular gossip site called her out directly would have been a fascinating angle to cover; it’s disappointing that no one addressed that.

Rumors have been swirling for a few weeks now that troubled Disney starlet, Demi Lovato, is going in and out of rehab to deal with some pretty serious addictions. On top of those rumors are rumors that her PR team keeps pulling her out of rehab to prove those rumors wrong. I know, I know, it’s a sick, twisted web of rumors that have been continuously denied by her PR team and simultaneously promoted by BlindGossip.com. (Update: Demi has since given her first interview in a while, with MuchMusic… but she doesn’t address the rumors here, nor that never-ending cocaine allegation. What gives?)

While it’s impossible for us to separate fact from fiction, let’s just err on the side of Hollywood cynicism and Disney’s fantastic child-star-transitioning-to-adult track record and assume Demi really is checking in and out of rehab.

And if we assume that, then we can also safely assume that her mother, Dianna Hart De La Garza, is throwing her hat in the ring to win the highly coveted title: Death be Damned, I’ll Most Definitely Sacrifice My Child(ren) to Make Money.  Former contestants include: Kate Gosselin, Courtney Love and the current title holder, Dina Lohan.  The prize? A highly coveted Us Weekly cover story and a 90% guarantee that you’ll one day be featured in either an E!‘s Worst Parents Ever countdown or a Lifetime movie. So yes, it’s totally worth it.

What do you need to even be in the running?

1. A  former child star with a problem. Bear in mind, while any problem will get you accepted into the running, it definitely helps if the problem involves drugs, alcohol or a healthy combination of the two.

2. Denial. So much denial! Like take your denial and multiply it by infinity. Then you’ll almost have enough denial.

3. The attitude of Rehab, schmehab.

4. A spare child star. Because just in case the first one doesn’t get you enough headlines, it’s nice to have another (cough, cough Madison De La Garza) waiting in the wings.

But in all seriousness, really? C’mon Dianna. If Demi is as sick as all these rumors are claiming, she needs help — not headlines. Pull it together and you might just get a Mother’s Day card this year.

Update: Demi’s reps have released several more statements to various outlets, including Perez Hilton, saying, “The story was fabricated. It is completely untrue.” Furthermore, BlindGossip added this update after speaking with Demi’s team:

Demi Lovato’s PR team has asked BG to let its readers know that, as of today, 1/25/2012, Demi Lovato is not a resident at an in-patient treatment center. They will not confirm her sobriety and will not be releasing any statements about her sobriety or her personal health. Demi will be publicly seen and photographed out in Los Angeles later today when she goes to a medical appointment.

We’ve updated our post to reflect these changes and Demi’s current situation. I’d like to point out, however, that the most interesting part of the story was not whether Demi was back in rehab, but the idea of a gossip site directly addressing the stars it’s writing about. I’ll be curious to see if more sites pick up that method in the future.

Now Demi Lovato quitting Twitter doesn’t seem so sudden: BlindGossip reports that the troubled Disney starlet has checked into Passages, a treatment center in Malibu, to get help for alcohol abuse and cocaine. But the most interesting facet of the story is that BlindGossip, a site that primarily publishes blind items about Hollywood stars, claims that they helped to get Demi back in rehab.

One of their blind items, published on January 19, took the unexpected tack of directly addressing the drug-addled starlet in question. After running through the relevant details about the actress spouting a sober message while doing coke at parties, BlindGossip wrote:

Let’s cut to the chase, and get more direct: Look, we know that you and your friends are reading this. It is absolute madness for you to think that this will end well. You are a beautiful and talented girl, but you ARE going to lose your fans and your career and probably your life if you keep this up.

Remember how upset one of your siblings was when someone picked on them? Do you realize how much more emotionally destroyed they would be if you actually died? You should think about that, because that is exactly where you are heading right now. We don’t care if you lie to people about what your problems are. We don’t care if you pretend that you are going on vacation. Just get yourself back into rehab (or treatment, if it makes you feel better to call it that), and get well. Now.

As they explained, they knew that Demi and her friends read BlindGossip religiously, so they figured that the best move was to call her out. And it worked: Demi was allegedly furious about them pulling her sister into it — see below — but it also got her friends to forward the blind item on to her parents/management.

Readers first started to catch on that it was Demi because of photos that surfaced the week prior of her and friends partying at Beachers Madhouse. Then there’s the sibling angle. Fans pointed out young actress Madison de la Garza, Demi’s half-sister through their mom. Madison plays one of Gabrielle Solis’ (Eva Longoria) overweight children on Desperate Housewives; in real life, she’s been bullied for her weight. She’s also appeared on two of Demi’s projects: Princess Protection Program and playing young Demi on Sonny with a Chance.

However, it should be noted that Demi’s rep has apparently denied the entire story, according to GossipCop. But we’re not sure if we can entirely believe the rep, since the statement is startlingly casual for a celebrity story: “It is a crock of shit.” That’s the kind of thing we’d expect from Demi’s Twitter… if she were still tweeting.

Update: Demi did her first interview since this fiasco, with MuchMusic… but she doesn’t address the rumors here, nor that never-ending cocaine allegation. What gives?

Dr. Drew is branching out, expanding his brand of addiction therapy beyond the boundaries of the Hollywood D-list to the world of everyday people. Yes, everyone’s favorite rehab leader is working on a new VH-1 show about the fight to get and stay sober, featuring addicts who have never been even the least bit famous.

The new show titled Rehab With Dr. Drew will use the same methods he used to clean up the celebrity participants in his last show, Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. The new batch of rehab-goers are described as young adults. This seems like a broad category and leaves a lot of the character of the show up in the air, because a rehab show dominated by teenagers would be completely different from one dominated by people in their mid-to-late twenties.

The show is slotted to premiere this summer, and the host seems excited to tackle this new project saying, “It is my sincere hope that this show will encourage people who are struggling to seek the help.”

It will be interesting to see how a rehab show without familiar faces is received, but I’m still holding out for a Teen Mom inspired Dr. Drew spin-off. Maybe they can just slowly integrate Teen Mom addicts into this new show. Tyler’s dad gets first dibs on a spot.

Over the weekend, Kate had to be transferred from her rehab facility in Boca Raton, FL to a nearby hospital after she suffered a seizure. According to her rep, on the night of December 3 she just left the hospital without her credit cards, cell phone, or any money. She’s wandering around Florida with just the clothes on her back.

If this were an escape attempt, it’s a lot quieter than her ex Michael Lohan‘s attempts: He was arrested for beating up Kate, released, then violated his parole by calling her, and then tried to escape the cops by jumping from his roof to a balcony. (He missed, and was arrested again.)

The last time we heard about a celebrity wandering around on her own, it was a disoriented Anne Heche walking through the desert thinking she was an alien called “Celestia” back in 2000. While we now tell that bizarre story with a smirk, it’s not a funny story when it’s happening and that person’s family doesn’t know where she is.

We hope that Kate’s family finds her and gets her help so that she can look back on this experience as a crazy blip and nothing more.

Update: False alarm! Kate’s been found… because it turns out she never even left the hospital. This whole mess happened because she was staying there under a false name—which her rep somehow didn’t know? There’s a weird disconnect of information going on here, but at least Kate called her parents and assured them she was OK.

Kate was en route to Florida to address the restraining order against ex-boyfriend Michael Lohan when she had a drunken fistfight with another passenger. This incident was likely what compelled her to get help; a source says she feels that drinking makes her act like someone she isn’t. (A keen defense when you’re looking to excuse battering another person and dating deadbeat dads Michael and Jon Gosselin.) She used to live in Florida, but was evicted from her condo in late October after Michael got arrested for beating her up.

Although Kate’s recent tweets seem carefree, at least one alludes to her decision before TMZ announced it. On November 18, a few days after her birthday, she wrote, Dont go out at all anymore zero energy and always tired..just looking forward to MY new chapter of life. ready for vacay& new arrivals.

Here’s hoping real-life treatment can accomplish what Celebrity Rehab failed to do.

Enough is enough, we say! Occupy E! The petition already has more than 4,000 signatures, which, impressive as that is, doesn’t really hold a candle to the 4.4 million viewers that tuned in for the first night of Kim’s Fairytale Wedding. Also, it’s E!, a network that thrives specifically on trashy programming. The more the Kardashians appear in the tabloids, the better for the channel.

There are rumors Kim is heading to “emotional rehab” (Ben & Jerry’s and rom-coms?) to recuperate from recent distresses. So maybe that’s E!’s next show? Watch out, Dr. Drew — there’s another fame-hungry pariah in town.

Life & Style reports that the two were seen at Seth MacFarlane‘s house party over the weekend, “stealing kisses” and “holding hands.” They didn’t try to hide their affection, according to a source:

“They were dirty-dancing to the music, and when they were seated, Wilmer had his hands on Demi’s knee the entire time. He was being very boyfriend-like and affectionate.”

Part of what made their romance so shocking when they first got together in 2010 was the age difference: She’s now 19, and he’s 31. The New York Post announced their second break-up in June. At the time, sources said the split was because ”[t]he age difference meant they were in completely different places in their lives.” (Demi’s reps had said no comment.) But maybe that was just an excuse for complications brought on by rehab. Now that she’s proven herself to not be fragile and suffer any sort of relapse, maybe they decided to try again.

Interestingly, there don’t seem to be any photos of just Demi and Wilmer; instead we found group shots like this one, of them posing with Mario Lopez and Eva Longoria.

The people that were calling me while I was in there were Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez. Those two girls, they meant the world to me. They still do.”

You’re probably asking yourself how Demi Lovato and Kim Kardashian would’ve crossed paths, right? Turns out the two met at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner last year (that’s the photo above) and have stayed in touch since. Demi was even one of the lucky attendees at Kim’s wedding last month.

They make kind of an odd pair, don’t they? The reality star who’s made a brand out of her body, from the sex tape that put her on the scene to her famous ass; and the Disney starlet who fell from grace. Then again, Kim knows what it’s like to be known only for an embarrassment, and how to turn that around into something approximating respect. Maybe she figures that she might as well share her experiences with her younger counterpart. (Kim’s 30; Demi’s 19.)

Don’t call it a comeback. After a stint in rehab and a relatively slow period in her career, Kirsten Dunst is back with a role in Melancholia, a new film by crazy genius/Hitler empathizer Lars Von Trier. Naturally, she’s been doing interviews to promote the film, and has landed cover story status in not one but two magazines next month. (Magazines spend the most time and energy on their September issues due to all the great fall fashions, so it’s widely thought to be the most coveted cover of the year.)

The Elle UK cover played it safe with Dunst, highlighting her blonde, apple-cheeked beauty with (what else?) a bunch of flowers.

Her cover for Wonderland, on the other hand, is a little bit saucy. On it, a pixie cut sporting Dunst looks over her shoulder like “yes, I’m wearing only my bra and painted-on leather pants. What of it?”
