If you haven’t yet seen the Golden Globes all the way to the end because of time zones, please wait to read this post, because after the cut I will talk about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s results at the Golden Globes this year.

Unfortunately for we the fans, neither Brad Pitt nor Angelina Jolie won. Benjamin Button didn’t win either for screenplay, movie, or director, which is too bad.

In the Best Actor category, Mickey Rourke won for his role in The Wrestler. I’m especially disappointed by that result because I am really not much of a Mickey Rourke fan, to be honest. However, to be fair, I haven’t seen the movie, and I heard that it’s his “comeback” role, so I won’t complain too much. Still, I do wish that Brad could have won!

For Best Actress, I was crossing my fingers, hoping for Angelina Jolie to win, but really expecting Anne Hathaway to walk away with it because of the Critics’ Choice Awards and also because of the confusion when she was accidentally listed as the winner on the official site several days ago. I was therefore surprised when Kate Winslet won for her role in Revolutionary Road. Again I am disappointed that Angelina didn’t win since I thought she was truly fantastic and realistic as Christine Collins, but I do love Kate Winslet too, so if she had to lose at least it was to another one of my favorites.

Also, Kate’s speech was incredible. She was so shocked to win and I love that, when actors are genuinely blown away when they win an award. She was so flabbergasted that when she was listing the names of her fellow nominees, she couldn’t remember Angelina and she was stammering, “oh god, who was the other one?! Um… Angelina Jolie!” It was funny and cute.

For all the other awards for which The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was nominated, it was Slumdog Millionaire that swept the wins.

I know people are very disappointed, and I am too, but it’s not that unusual for a surprise win at the Oscars, where a movie that didn’t win anything suddenly wins an Oscar when no one expects it, so I’m still going to hold out hope – at the very least I am sure that it will be nominated.

Overall, I wish that Brad and Angelina and their films had won at least some of the awards (I was also especially hoping that Clint Eastwood would win for original music score for Changeling but that went to Slumdog Millionaire too, alas!), but I am just really happy that they were nominated. It is wonderful to win, but nominations are still very strong recognitions when you think about how many movies are made in any given year. Win or lose, they were noticed enough to be nominated with only four other competitors, so that’s pretty good in my book, and it still makes people eager to go see the movies because they’re curious about the buzz.

How many more days until the Oscars?!
