Ah Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, that wonderful time when everyone in New York City fights to get into all the shows and then acts like it’s a horrible burden to have to sit through them. Are you even allowed to smile if you’ve got a front row seat at a show? Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Terry Richardson say otherwise.

It’s been quite a week for celebrity siblings in the modeling industry: the famous sis of the day isn’t Ali Lohan, by 14-year-old Kylie Jenner, youngest member of the Jenner/Kardashian clan. Kylie made her runway debut yesterday, modeling in the show for Avril Lavigne‘s line, Abbey Dawn (we’re still waiting to see men’s ties make that third comeback).

If 17 is too young for Ali Lohan to pose for photos in her underwear, is 14 too young to walk the runway? It’s something that’s been contended a lot recently: early this year, designer Diane Von Furstenberg came under fire when she accidentally hired a 15-year-old model after strongly advocating that the industry stop using girls under the age of 16.

The situation is clearly different when the model in question is a celebrity and not an anonymous foreigner alone in the big city — no doubt, Kylie was treated differently than most young models. However, hiring a 14-year-old to strut around in high heels and fishnets sets a pretty terrible precedent for the industry.

Knock it off, celebrity teenagers! Just go off and be teenagers for a while.

You wouldn’t want to take Dior’s Spring shoe collection on your trip to Africa, lest you be shot by one of those old-timey hunters with a tan hat and a giant white mustache who mistake your gams for an exotic creature. “Good show, old chap!” they’d say, clapping each other on the back. Hilary Duff at Heart’s Truth Fashion Show – Runway

Hilary Duff, who recently announced a new fashion collection with DKNY Jeans called Femme for DKNY Jeans, took to the runway for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2009 in New York. Hilary was wearing a gorgeous red dress from Donna Karan New York (DKNY) for the show, which you can see in even more photos on the red carpet.

The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection is an annual fashion show put on to raise awareness about heart disease. Other celebrities who took to the runway for the show included Katie Couric, Patricia Arquette, and Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin.
