You sound pretty busy. What are you up to these days?

I’m currently going around the country as the spokesperson for Steve Madden. We just got back from Tampa and the weekend before we were in Vegas. I basically go with a DJ and bring a party to your local department store. We’re going to be in Austin, Tex. on March 20 and it’s going to be crazy because it’s during South By Southwest so tons of people are going to be coming out. It’s going to be even bigger and better, and we’re also going to be having a pre-party on March 18.

Do you have any dirt on the upcoming season of Jersey Shore?

All I can say is that they’re not going to be at the Jersey shore. I can’t wait to see what will happen and see if Sammi and Ronnie are really going to get together or if they’re going to continue this back and forth break up and make up story. Like on the After Hours show, it looked like they were going to break up at that minute, but later they were grinding up against each other at the club. You never know with those two.

Did you know what was going to happen on After Hours before Sammi’s break down?

We always show behind the scenes footage and never before seen footage and Sammi had no idea what we were going to show. From the minute she walked on to the set, she was really nervous and I couldn’t figure out why. That’s why I kept asking her about it. Ronnie told me later, “What a lot of people don’t know was that we gave each other a time period to tell each other about anything that hasn’t aired.” They wanted to let each other know so there were no surprises. He was really surprised, and that’s why he was so upset.

So in preparing for hosting After Hours, did you watch Jersey Shore?

Yes! First of all, I had no choice because I had to be prepared for what I was up against. I ended watching the entire season before it premiered. And I was hooked from the minute I popped in the first DVD. It was so addictive. There is just something about that show, I don’t know what it is. I think it’s the people on it. You or I may not do back flips in our thong in the club, but it’s fun to watch. And the thing about them is what you see is what you get. It’s not like a lot of “reality shows” where you think you see something and its really not. I think that’s why so many people love it.

Have you ever been to the Jersey shore?

I’ve never been. I have three older brothers who used to go all the time and can you believe they never took me?

If you could do any guy from Jersey Shore, who would you do?

Pauly D. I just think his hair would protect us through anything.

What is his hair like in person?

It is as hard as a rock and yes, and I am referring to his hair.

What do you like best: G, T or L?

G and T, because who likes doing laundry?

Ed Hardy — yea or nay?

What I think about Ed Hardy is, to each his own. When Ed Hady was the trend, I definitely owned a few shirts. But I’ve moved on from Ed Hardy.

If you were making out with a guy and some zoo animals or a grenade showed up, what would you do?

I would probably react exactly like Snooki. If I’m making out with a guy, it’s probably because I really like him. So don’t try to get in between me and I guy I like!

What is Snooki like in person?

She is so nice, she should really be “Sweetheart.” She’s such a ball of energy.

Would you sleep with a guy you met at the Jersey shore?

Probably not.

Do you not like Guidos?

No, I love guidos. I just wouldn’t sleep with a guy I just met at the Jersey shore. I would have to get to know the people around me before I sleep with them!

Would you ever go on a show like Jersey Shore?

It depends on the destination, if you offered me a house with other people for the summer, all expenses paid, and I only had to work a couple of hours a day at a T-shirt shop, sign me up.

But, like any Oscars ceremony, there was an extra something-something missing that producers inexplicably could not fit into a 4-hour award-a-thon. Memorable moments, unplanned events. Yes, there was a conspicuous lack of spontaneity–come on, Bigelow, Jeff Bridges, Mo’Nique and Sandy Bullock were all a lock to win their respective slots. Kind of boring, no?

Here are some bits we wish we had witnessed during this hallowed Hollywood event:

1. Bigelow gets all up in James Cameron’s face after her victory, yelling: “I’m the king of the world!”
2. Kanye West storms the stage during Bullock’s touching acceptance speech, eliciting a furious wave of boos. “I’m gonna let you finish, Sandy, but I just need to say something: Meryl Streep deserves this award!!! She gave one of  the best Julia Child performances of ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!”
3. For the love of good music — and Colin Farrell — could the Academy have allowed Colin to sing the winning theme from Crazy Heart? We saw him perform it as a young country superstar in the film, and we know he can carry a tune, so why not take advantage of this? If Farrell didn’t want to do it, there was an able substitute in the audience: TIM MCGRAW. We repeat, TIM MCGRAW.
4. The Dude – aka Bridges — wanders onstage halfway through the big giant professional dance number, thereby sending up his confusing presence in this celebrity video tribute set to “We Are The World.”
5. The pre-show is Dullsville without any Brangelina sightings or Bjork swan dresses.  So Gary Busey crashes the red carpet again, throwing off the unflappable Ryan Seacrest for a second time since ‘08. Never not funny. Ever.
6. A James Cameron diva meltdown. Presenter Ben Stiller tried to bait the director by dressing up like an Avatar, alternating between gibberish and English, saying: “I want to put my tail — my braid — into your dragon.” Another presenter, Tyler Perry, tried to get a rise, cracking a joke at Cameron’s expense. But the man didn’t budge. When ex-wife Bigelow beat him for Best Director, he took it like a gracious loser. Then again, Cameron could are less! He’s swimming in gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.
7. Less GOLD on the red carpet. Enough with the metallic column gowns, ladies. We’re bored. Where’s Bjork?
8. More boobie roses on Charlize. We want her to turn around and show two more ill-placed rosettes on her butt.
9. More boyfriends on the red carpet. Where was Shia LaBeouf for Carey Mulligan and Pacey for Diane Kruger? Pacey (real name: Joshua Jackson) is Kruger’s No. 1 accessory but he was nowhere to be seen during the show. Was he at the bar with Dawson?
10. Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston presenting together. They co-star in the upcoming comedy The Bounty Hunter and go on heavily-photographed Mexican vacays, so would it kill the maybe-couple to maybe give us a LITTLE something by announcing the award for, say, Best Foreign-Language Film? Last year, Aniston stirred up some tabloid fun while presenting an award as Brangelina sat in the front row; she smiled at Brad Pitt, then took her seat 30 rows back alongside then-boyfriend John Mayer. We fear nothing can top this — ever.
11. Dramz! Brangelina! We missed them. Too bad the Jolie-Pitt brood is abroad, possibly eating ice cream in Italy. Mango-papaya for Zahara! Coffee flavor for Maddox! Then they go to McDonald’s and Angelina buys them Happy Meals; then Jon Voight shows up and they reconcile as one big happy family and go on a gondola ride. The Oscars are so not important.

Although we love when NPH sings, if he shows up on one more award show, he may pigeonhole himself. Tread carefully, Neil.

Which raises an intriguing casting question, involving The Breakfast Club: If a remake of the ’80s teen-movie masterpiece were to happen, and if said remake were to star the current contestants on Idol, whom would play whom?

We have some suggestions:

• Simon Cowell as hardass Principal Richard Vernon (Paul Gleason). Yep, sounds about right.
• Ryan Seacrest as vulnerable jock Andrew Clark (Emilio Estevez). Seacrest is a radio jock who can be vulnerable despite his robo-smooth confidence hosting 102.7 KIIS FM,  Idol and his 33 other jobs. We speculate, but anyone with so many gigs must be overcompensating for something –  like Emilio in TBC –  so what’s Seacrest hiding?
• Siobhan Magnus as goth misfit Allison Reynolds (Ally Sheedy). The female darkhorse/Ally Sheedy lookalike sang “Wicked Game” last week, which …. yep, sounds about right.
• Casey James as “The  Criminal” John Bender (Judd Nelson). They have wildly different personalities — Casey is mild-mannered and Bender has borderline sociopathic tendencies  — yet there’s one thing they share in common: they’re both really really hot. And that’s that.
• Katelyn Epperly as Claire Standish (Molly Ringwald). Katelyn’s curly hair is one of her best features, as is Claire’s awesome red bob. They both exude that Homecoming Queen vibe — but we wonder whether Katelyn can do that patented lipstick trick.
• Tim Urban as Brian Johnson (Anthony Michael Hall). Urban is young, earnest, nerdy-cute and one of this season’s underdogs. He is 1985 Anthony Michael Hall crossed with Zac Efron. And like Brian/Anthony Michael Hall, he has that sweet quality that makes us root for him.
