Did Lana Del Rey Tank On Saturday Night Live?

Did Lana Del Rey Tank On Saturday Night Live?

Last night musical darling/critical lightning rod Lana Del Rey performed on Saturday Night Live. It was only the second time that an artist got a booking in that coveted spot before releasing a single studio album. (The first was Natalie Imbruglia.) Unfortunately for her, it was not her best performance. But will it hurt her fledgling career? More »

Norman Rockwell Stefon Is The Only Holiday Card You’ll Ever Need

Norman Rockwell Stefon Is The Only Holiday Card You'll Ever Need

New York’s hottest greeting card is… this thing right here. It’s got a Norman Rockwell painting, Bill Hader‘s Stefon, and a joke that’s rapidly running out of steam, I’m so sorry, everyone. More »

Is Robyn’s Call Your Girlfriend About An Imaginary Affair?

Is Robyn’s Call Your Girlfriend About An Imaginary Affair?

On Saturday night, Swedish pop star Robyn gave a characteristically amazing performance as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. For her performance of “Call Your Girlfriend,” she used basically the same choreography as in her video directed by Max Vitali, but the sheer awesomeness of her moves in a live setting made me watch the video over and over again. And because of this, I realized. This song is about an imaginary conversation Robyn’s having with herself. More »

All Of This Week’s SNL Sketch Pitches Were About Katy Perry’s Boobs

All Of This Week's SNL Sketch Pitches Were About Katy Perry's Boobs

First, before we discuss Katy Perry’s boobs, me must direct you on over to Vulture to read Tara Ariano’s brilliant SNL Sketch Predictor. It is exactly what it sounds like it’ll be, and I’ll be damned if some of those exact sketches don’t end up on Saturday’s show. Now that you have read that and come back on over to me (Is that coffee? Gee, thanks!), here’s a quote from Katy herself about the types of sketches we’re likely to see: More »

Kenan Thompson Married Christina Evangeline At The Aquarium

Kenan Thompson Married Christina Evangeline At The Aquarium

The fish were bridesmaids and a shark was the man of honor — or at least they could have been at Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson‘s wedding. Kenan married Christina Evangeline at the Georgia Aquarium in his hometown of Atlanta on Friday. And he managed to be back in New York for SNL the next night. More »

Melissa McCarthy Deserved Better Material For Her SNL Hosting Gig

Melissa McCarthy Deserved Better Material For Her SNL Hosting Gig

The writing on the Melissa McCarthy-hosted SNL this past weekend was much like the characters she played: clumsy, sloppy, and kind of offensive. More »

Melissa McCarthy Wants To Bring Her Weird Improv Character Marbles To Saturday Night Live

Melissa McCarthy Wants To Bring Her Weird Improv Character Marbles To Saturday Night Live

One of the best things about Melissa McCarthy‘s performance in Bridesmaids was that her character Megan was far raunchier and more hilarious than her roles on Gilmore Girls or Mike & Molly. As it turns out, Melissa has a whole bunch of similarly shocking characters up her sleeve—including Marbles, who got her her job on Mike & Molly and who she wants to bring to her gig hosting SNL tomorrow night. The American Family Association Can’t Take A Joke, Wants To Boycott Ben & Jerry’s Schweddy Balls Ice Cream

The American Family Association Can't Take A Joke, Wants To Boycott Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls Ice Cream

Ever consider how parents’ advocacy groups never seem to do anything constructive? They just criticize Gossip Girl for its sex scenes—and now, Ben & Jerry’s for its new flavor Schweddy Balls, inspired by the famous Saturday Night Live sketch starring Alec Baldwin. More »

Three-Quarters of the “Motherlover” Cast Reunite for ‘Friends with Benefits’

Three-Quarters of the "Motherlover" Cast Reunite for 'Friends with Benefits'

Friends with Benefits boasts an impressive cast, many of whom have worked together before. In fact, three of the members starred in one of Saturday Night Live‘s greatest Digital Shorts of the last few years: “Motherlover,” the 2009 ode to porking your best friend’s mom in lieu of a proper Mother’s Day gift. You may not have noticed the alignment of these stars since Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg aren’t sporting fake beards and jauntily-perched sunglasses, but Patricia Clarkson seems to be channeling her naughty mom in playing Mila Kunis‘ kinky madre with her “bad little pony” lover Aubrey. It seems like just yesterday that JT was pimping her out to his buddy Andy.

So where’s Susan Sarandon? More »

Video: Watch Justin Timberlake Play Mozart on an Unaired 'SNL' Sketch

This sketch is pretty great, and we’re not sure why it didn’t air! Host Justin Timberlake plays a (laughably accented) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who has decided to give up music in favor of acting. We love JT, especially because he’s so willing to laugh at himself. More »

Saturday Night Live: Justin Timberlake, Andy Samberg, and Lady Gaga Have a Threesome

Saturday Night Live: Justin Timberlake, Andy Samberg, and Lady Gaga Have a Threesome

Saturday Night Live‘s season went out with a bang. Host Justin Timberlake and musical guest Lady Gaga brought their A-games.Although it’s not out of the ordinary for musical guests to sneak in for a cameo or two in some of the sketches, Gaga was all over the place – it was almost like she and Justin were cohosting the episode, although she never invited him to join him for a duet in her musical numbers. I Hate Justin Timberlake Except When He’s On ‘Saturday Night Live’

I Hate Justin Timberlake Except When He's On 'Saturday Night Live'

his weekend is Saturday Night Live‘s season finale, and the host/musical guest is regular visitor Justin Timberlake. I’m totally on board with this idea, because Justin’s regular bits on SNL – from the Barry Gibb Talk Show to his recurring sketches with Andy Samberg – are hilarious. I’m also totally on board with this because Justin Timberlake is annoying doing everything that isn’t SNL. More »

Jon Hamm Needs to Join the Cast of ‘Saturday Night Live’

Jon Hamm Needs to Join the Cast of 'Saturday Night Live'

Reportedly, there are two people who have “lifetime passes” on Saturday Night LiveChristopher Walken and Justin Timberlake. That means that they can go on the show any time they want, despite not being cast members. I propose that a third member be added to that esteemed group – Jon Hamm. As evidence, here’s a retrospective of some of his finest work. More »

Saturday Night Live: Ed Helms In a Live Action ‘Ambiguously Gay Duo’

Saturday Night Live: Ed Helms In a Live Action 'Ambiguously Gay Duo'

The Ambiguously Gay Duo have always been one of my favorite recurring bits on Saturday Night Live, so seeing a live-action version was a huge highlight for me. Fortunately, the casting was right on: Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon were the titular pair, while the evening’s host Ed Helms played one of the villains (modeled on Batman‘s Two Face). More »

Chick Flick Check List: ‘Bridesmaids’

Chick Flick Check List: 'Bridesmaids'

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Bridesmaids is apparently the most important female movie of our time. Why? Because the Hollywood gods have decided to wait to see how well it does at the box office before deciding on the fate of other female scripted screenplays. That’s just silly. Bridesmaids isn’t the ultimate women’s movie. But apparently it is contentious. According to Jamie Denbo

“Bridesmaids is not a “chick flick”. It’s a “flick” that happens to have chicks in it.”

Touche! Also, people are getting all riled up about comparing this pre-wedding movie to the male bachelor party movie The Hangover.

And they are very different movies. For instance, Bridesmaids is far less coherent than The Hangover. But there is good news! More »

Saturday Night Live: Tina Fey Takes on 'Pregnant In Heels' and Stefon Gives Mother's Day Tips

Video: Saying Goodbye to Kristen Wiig’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Characters Gilly and Penelope

Video: Saying Goodbye to Kristen Wiig's 'Saturday Night Live' Characters Gilly and Penelope

In an unusual move for Saturday Night Live, they’re officially retiring two recurring characters. While it’s nothing weird for recurring characters to get phased out, making a public announcement about it – as Kristen Wiig did in a recent interview promoting her new movie Bridesmaids – is pretty rare. That said, I’m glad Kristen announced it, because I will not be that sorry to see her characters Penelope and Gilly go. More »
