American Idol judge, Paula Abdul, surprised eliminated finalist, Scott MacIntyre with a guide dog at an event honoring May as National Guide Dog Month. Watch the exchange and then let’s talk. What did you think of it? I found their behavior really odd and I’m not sure what to make of Scott’s reaction. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but something felt “off” about this…… More »
Former American Idol finalist, Scott MacIntyre, was spotted at the premiere of the highly anticipated prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Tempe, Arizona last night. It looks like Scott had a great time and not only got to meet the film’s star, Hugh Jackman, but was also greeted by some fans. I hope he enjoyed the movie which hits theaters this Friday! … More »
On Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, Jimmy had three contestants play a game called “Name That Famous Celebrity.” The game is pretty straightforward – a picture of a star is shown and the contestants must buzz in with an answer. The first person to correctly identify the celebrity gets the points. Sounds easy, right? Not when the contestants are an older man, an Egyptian tourist and Scott MacIntyre, the blind finalist from the current season of American Idol. Fellow Idol… More »
Tonight’s American Idol results show started with a song from Simon Cowell’s year of birth (1959). Old footage of Frankie Avalon singing his hit song “Venus” was shown but then Avalon walked out on stage. It was a fun moment. The Ford commercial this week featured Britney Spears’ single “Circus” and it was pretty good. I’ve found the commercials less entertaining this season so this was a bit of an improvement. Flo Rida sang “Right Round” and… More »
Scott MacIntyre was born in 1985 and he sang and this theme was perfect because I always have felt like Scott’s voice was best suited for 80s ballads. He reminds me of Peter Cetera of the band Chicago, at times. Kara commended him for playing the guitar but said he had some off moments vocally. Paula applauded his effort to step away from the piano but said that some of the high notes sounded a little rough. … More »
Scott MacIntyre accompanied himself on the piano as he sang Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are” and it was a little better for me than some of his past performances. I still think that Scott lacks some control over his vocals and they can be a little loose. Still, I respect him as an artist and the emotion that he puts into songs. Kara said that it was smart to pick that song and gave a… More »
It was Motown Week on American Idol and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Honestly, in the past there have been some real disasters in the past with this genre but it was pretty good. Matt Giraud kicked off the night with his rendition of “Let’s Get it On” and, I thought it was pretty good, but I did think there were some flaws. Still, I love Matt’s voice but I… More »
Scott MacIntyre chose to sing “You Can’t Hurry Love” which was originally recorded by the Supremes but remade by Phil Collins (and the Dixie Chicks for the Runaway Bride soundtrack – right?). I thought the timing and phrasing was weird. I thought there were pitch issues and I really did not love this performance. Paula said that when Scott is feeling a song, the audience feels it too. Simon said that when he heard Scott sing… More »

Scott MacIntyre sang “Wild Angels” by Martina McBride and the audience really got into it toward the end but I found it a little boring. I feel like he also slides in and out of notes. I like Scott but I don’t have the same level of excitement for him as I think a lot of other people do. Paula said it was an impressive performance but that he needs to rely a little less on the piano. Simon… More »
Scott MacIntyre chose to sing the obscure Michael Jackson song “Keep the Faith” and, even though I consider myself a MJ fan, I can’t say that I’ve heard this song more than once. That said, Scott hasn’t always picked the most obvious songs and it’s worked for him so far. He did a decent job and I was really impressed that he accompanied himself on the piano. Incredible! As Kara got him to point out, he only learned… More »
Scott MacIntyre, the first blind person to make it into the finals on American Idol, chose to sing “Mandolin Rain” which is a song that I’m not that familiar with. I am totally inspired by Scott’s courage and talent but I can’t lie. I thought it was pretty good but not great. Am I the only one who feels that way? I feel like the judges are trying to push the viewers to vote for Scott because of… More »
The first week of auditions is over on the eighth season of American Idol. What did you think? Any favorites emerge for you? From the Phoenix tryouts, I liked the following people the most: Emily Wynne-Hughes (age 21) of Los Angeles, California sang Heart’s “Barracuda” and did an excellent job. She had great control which is saying a lot since the song is hard to sing. JB Ahfua (age 16) of Taylorsville,… More »
Here’s a recap of last night’s American Idol auditions from Phoenix, Arizona! Last night’s American Idol auditions kicked off with Tuan Nguyen of Spring Valley, California. The 20-year-old cashier attempted to sing “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson and I think it started okay but things just went downhill from there. He didn’t make it through. Emily Wynne-Hughes (age 21) of Los Angeles, California sang Heart’s “Barracuda” (a song that’s enjoyed some… More »
