Video: Outtakes From Emma Stone And Bill Hader’s Star Wars Shoot For ‘Stand Up To Cancer’

Stand Up To Cancer has smartly utilized three factors to get their message out: 1) Celebrities like Andy Samberg and Zach Galifianakis 2) reenacting scenes from Star Wars in a 3) viral video. Back in September they posted the official video — created in partnership with Lucasfilm – but now SU2C has released a behind-the-scenes look where the actors talk about their love for George Lucas‘ enduring series and how cancer has touched their lives.

It’s really fantastic that Lucasfilm is willing to supply the footage and score for these videos. And the actors don’t seem disingenuous at all, in terms of expressing their geekery and talking about the disease. You trust that Emma Stone, Seth Rogen, and Aziz Ansari are all actually fans of the series and knew some of the lines even before reenacting them for the video. Furthermore, you take their word that their parents and grandparents suffered from cancer.

‘Fast Five’ Is Actually a Love Story Between The Rock and Vin Diesel

I really enjoyed Fast Five, despite having not seen the other four Fast the Furious movies. It was, simply, a redblooded, hearty action flick with insane car stunts and giggle-worthy dialogue. And over the course of the jam-packed 130 minutes, I found myself adding another layer: I decided that there was a sordid love affair going on between the characters played by Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

I didn’t do this because the movie failed to grab my attention, but because the plot was so ludicrous already that this just made all kinds of sense. Sweaty, ridiculously muscled men shouting in each other’s faces? It’s more than a bit homoerotic.

I’m not alone in this thinking; Saturday Night Live ran a silly skech in 2009 called The Fast and the Bi-Curious, starring Andy Samberg and Seth Rogen as two drag racers who talk uncomfortably close and use all sorts of steamy euphemisms.

But back to Fast Five. Diesel reprises his role as Dom Torretto, mumbling retorts out of the side of his mouth while sauntering into a fight. Having not seen the other movies beyond the trailers, I was surprised by the sly smile that accompanies a lot of his lines; this is an easily confident guy who knows when to put up.

Then there’s The Rock’s character, Hobbs. A federal agent tasked with catching the crew, he means business. We know this because he has a scraggly goatee-chin beard, and because he sweats in every single scene. I have to tell you — seeing this movie on an IMAX screen, with The Rock’s forty-foot head just dripping beads of sweat in every frame, was an experience I don’t need to repeat. By contrast, Dom’s face is clean shaven, his head bald. He never loses his cool, even when jumping out of a car hurtling over a giant waterfall.

Redditor iamgame made a sort of visual celebrity bracket, combining 16 older male celebrities that he considered conventionally unattractive. It’s a strange bunch: Seth Rogen and Steve Buscemi sit side-by-side with Hitler and Marilyn Manson. I definitely wouldn’t argue that all of these men are ugly per se, but my personal view isn’t the point of this. After iamgame spent two hours on MorphThing, he’d come up with the image above. Though we (and, I imagine, he) may have expected an amalgamation of unattractive men to create the most unattractive man, you actually get the reverse: An average-looking guy. (Also, I need to make the Rowan Atkinson/Michael Jackson mash-up my avatar on some site.)

Today is January 14, which means that The Green Hornet is finally hitting theaters. The movie’s definitely had some setbacks. First, they traded in George Clooney for Seth Rogen as its star. But then Seth Rogen got really trim and buff for the role! The movie also went from a 2010 summer blockbuster to a 2011 release during January, the slowest movie month of the year. But we’re still excited to see it this weekend for a ton of reasons.

For starters. Have you ever seen so many photos of hot dudes holding guns in such a safe manor? Both hands on your weapon, soldier!

On top of that, Michel Gondry is directing, and Seth Rogen has great chemistry with his sidekick Jay Chou. But there are also throwbacks to our childhood. Roles for Edward Furlong and Edward James Olmos? Yes, please. Also, I will pretty much go see any movie with Christoph Waltz in it. The End.

Green Hornet’s Jay Chou…Revealed!

American audiences might not know much about Taiwanese singer/director/producer/actor Jay Chou currently, but next month’s release of Green Hornet should change all that. The multi-talented 31-year-old is poised to become a breakout hit in his role of Kato, the trusty sidekick to Seth Rogen‘s Hornet. To be honest, we didn’t know much about Jay either (the first commercial round, we actually thought it was John Cho…whoops!), but after doing some background research, we’re surprised we hadn’t heard of him sooner. This dude’s already a legend!
