With the contestants dwindling and only two weeks left of Season 7 of So You Think You Can Dance I thought the top three was pretty solidified as Kent, Lauren and Adechike. So when Lauren found herself in the bottom three (miraculously recovered from the mysterious injury she met with medics about earlier this week) it was pretty certain that she wouldn’t be sent home at the end of then night.
And with two contestants being sent home this week… More »
Lauren Froderman’s future on So You Think You Can Dance hangs in the balance. The only remaining girl in the Top 6 had a stellar night of dancing, but host Cat Deeley cryptically revealed at the close of the show that she was “with the medic.” Whether Lauren can continue in the competition or will be sent home, like injured Alex and Ashley before her, remains to be seen.
After Cat’s unexpected announcement, I rewound the episode, back to Lauren’s… More »
As host Cat Deeley appropriately pointed out last night, sometimes it seems like executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and the rest of the So You Think You Can Dance braintrust is just making it up as they go along. Last night was the perfect example of this.
Jose and Robert joined Billy Bell in the bottom three last night, as predicted. But rather than send one of the guys home, Nigel and the rest of the judges decided that no one would… More »
“We have to get someone in here,” So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said last night, alluding to the fact that the three contestants on the dance competition’s seventh season have ended up out of the competition due to injury. Last night, Billy Bell was the contestant sitting the night’s performances out with a bum knee, but his injury seems much less serious than those of Ashley Galvan and Alex Wong, who were sent home the… More »
Last week it was favorite Alex Wong. This week, contemporary dancer and one of the only remaining female dancers this season Ashley Galvan bowed out of the competition due to a rib injury. Ashley’s departure is remarkable because it leaves only one female dancer in the competition — Lauren. While Lauren is talented, it seems unfair — not to mention uninteresting — to have the competitors be practically all male.
Joining the injured Ashely in the bottom three last night were… More »
When Alex and Twitch danced a hip-hop number a few weeks ago on So You Think You Can Dance, it was novel and exciting — something that had never been done during regular competition on the show before. Now, it’s like every other dance is guy-guy. Hey, I’m not complaining.
With Alex sent home last week due to injury, I was sad to hear at the top of the show that Ashley would not be competing because of injury as well…. More »
So You Think You Can Dance helped propel indie singer-songwriter Christina Perri’s song “Jar Of Hearts” up the iTunes best seller charts, so it’s no surprise that Christina will be stopping there for a performance of the song during tomorrow night’s elimination show.
Since her song debuted on the show during a Stacey Tookey contemporary number at the end of June, Christina’s life has been “kind of unbelievable and out of this world and crazy and whirlwind and all those things… More »

Last night, Season 7 favorite Alex Wong was sent home on So You Think You Can Dance after a serious Achilles injury took him off stage and out of competition. While mourning his loss and preparing for surgery on Tuesday in L.A., Alex took a few moments to speak with reporters. He told Crushable what he went through when he injured himself and his plans for the future. “Everything happens for a reason,” Alex said repeatedly, adding that he’s just… More »
If Alex hadn’t ruptured his Achilles tendon this week, it’s very possible that another female dancer would have been sent home from So You Think You Can Dance last night.
It’s been a wild ride for Alex, who first tried out for the dance competition show back in Season 5. He was picked to join the cast then, but couldn’t get out of his contract with the Miami City Ballet. A year (and two SYTYCD seasons) later, Alex was back at… More »
The first thing I noticed when the new performance episode So You Think You Can Dance opened last night was that favorite Alex Wong was completely missing from the intro line up. “Where is Alex? What happened to Alex?!” I worried aloud, hoping he wasn’t sitting somewhere off stage with his leg in a cast.
Cut to producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe, who would explain the disappearance to us. Turns out, Alex had been rehearsing a Bollywood routine with fellow contestant Adechike (I… More »
One of the unique facets of So You Think You Can Dance is the way it highlights new artists and new music. Before every dance, the show puts the name of the song and the artist on screen, so viewers can find the song and download or buy it.
This technique worked like a gem for unsigned artist Christina Perri, whose song “Jar of Hearts” was featured on last week’s performance show. After Billy Bell and All-Star Kathryn McCormick danced to… More »
I bet Nigel Lythgoe is now seriously rethinking his decision to vote off one contestant a week on this season of So You Think You Can Dance. I’m sure he considered that at one point the ratio of male to female dancers would be uneven, but do you think he could have guessed that he would be voting off three girls in a row?
After last night’s (predictable) ousting of tapper Melinda, there are now six guys and two girls remaining… More »
The So You Think You Can Dance judges’ choice to vote off two girls at the start of Season 7 finally caught up to them last night, as one of the remaining 6 male contestants was paired up with a male All-Star dancer.
If you know your So You Think You Can Dance history, you know that typically only male-female pairings are acceptable during competition rounds, although we have seen male-male match-ups in auditions (with little success) and finales (with great… More »
Last week, the male-female ratio on So You Think You Can Dance was thrown out of whack with the loss of Alexie, and I was sort of hoping this week would even things out.
But after a lackluster week, there was no sure thing that the guys would be voted into the bottom three over the girls. In fact, Latin ballroom dancer Cristina, tapper Melinda and contemporary dancer Robert were marked for the bottom by votes, giving a guy only… More »
Another week of performances on So You Think You Can Dance has come and gone, and although a couple of the ten remaining dancers were able to blow me away (Alex) most were just ho-hum. It was nice to see some of the better dancers challenged by something outside of their style — like Billy krumping, b-boy Jose trying Bollywood and Lauren dancing hip-hop. But were they successful?

After an iffy first week that landed her in the bottom three,… More »

Okay, I’ll admit it, I really like Justin Bieber’s songs on his latest album My World 2.0. The song “Somebody To Love” is actually really catchy and fun, and the remix featuring Usher is a little more sophisticated than your average Justin Bieber song.
So last night while I was watching So You Think You Can Dance, the video for the “Somebody To Love” remix came on, and I was really excited. I thought it was the perfect video to… More »
So You Think You Can Dance’s seventh season is now fully underway. Last night, the Top 11 were paired up with their All-Stars — who they “picked out of a hat” — and danced in various styles for America’s vote. We wanted to rank the best and the worst, but there weren’t any real standouts. Obviously, we expected more at this point because, as the judges rightfully pointed out, there is no Top 20 this year. The learning curve that… More »
The Top 11 — five women and six men — for So You Think You Can Dance‘s Season 7 were revealed for the first time last night and will dance for the first time tomorrow. Why Top 11 and not Top 10 you ask? Well, because they can. More »
