South Street Seaport will start having winter outdoor concerts! If you are brave enough to withstand the cold on Friday nights from January 30 through February 27, then head on down to the Seaport to catch some free music. Also, they have an ice rink there now!

So…I am pissed. One of the people I was looking forward to seeing twice this summer has canceled most of his upcoming tour dates. Argentinian El Guincho will no longer be at the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, or opening for Atlas Sound at a string of dates, including a free show at South Street Seaport on July 25. Pitchfork reports:

So many venues host (mostly) free shows in the summertime, it’s hard to keep up. There’s McCarren Pool, Central Park, and Prospect Park. But then there’s also Castle Clinton in Battery Park, the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center, and the South Street Seaport. South Street Seaport has had awesome shows in the summer (Menomena, Animal Collective, Hot Chip, etc.) and now they’re trying their thing with some winter indoor shows called “On-the-Side” at a venue called @Seaport.
The first show is this Friday, February 22 with Beat the Devil at 7 p.m. Also slated for the evening is the premier of an untitled documentary on Beat the Devil by filmmaker Ben Clayton, plus an exhibit of work by artist Jason Frederick and photographer Mitchell… More »
