Spencer Pratt Used Lauren Conrad’s Birthday To Drum Up Publicity For Himself

Spencer Pratt is broke. Hollywood knows he’s crazy, and he’s living at home with his folks because he doesn’t have any money to pick himself back up again. He calls his agency thirty times a day and can’t get work. But then February 1 came, and it was a glorious day—it was Lauren Conrad‘s birthday, and Spencer knew that he would be able, if only for a few days after, to be relevant again.

He tweeted out a seemingly positive message to LC, though he quickly had to explain himself since his and her fans probably called bullshit immediately:

@LaurenConrad Happy Birthday! Thanks for helping me find my miracle wife @heidimontag !

My birthday wish for @LaurenConrad is for her to find true love like #Speidi

I wasn’t being sarcastic! I really do wish the best for @LaurenConrad on her birthday! #forgiveandforget

Mentioning the friend that Lauren lost because she chose him over her, and trying to get “Speidi” trending again even though it’s a horrid piece of pop culture slang we’d rather forget? Yeah, not helping Spencer’s case.

Ultimately, Lauren ignored Spencer’s attempts at reconciliation since she has a job as a style guru and seems to be doing pretty damn well without the crutch of reality television. Instead, she posted photos like this one of her wearing a birthday hat and trying to open a Hello Kitty champagne bottle, and joked that no one had wished her a happy Groundhog Day.

But according to a friend, Lauren really just didn’t take her former on-screen enemy seriously because Twitter isn’t the place for genuine apologies. “Lauren loves using Twitter to interact with her fans and promote her brands,” the source said, “but obviously she doesn’t think it’s an effective way to apologize or try to mend bridges… In this case, like others, she’s going to continue to do what works best with Spencer and that’s obviously to ignore him.”

Heidi Montag must be in on the reconciliation idea, too: They sent some flowers off to former co-star Kristin Cavallari, who’s pregnant with her first child. “Heidi and Spencer actually sent me flowers, which was really sweet,” she recently told Us. The way they left things on The Hills, Spencer got kicked off after threatening the producers, and Heidi was convinced that Kristin was doing drugs. But apparently bygones are bygones for Kristin; maybe it’s the baby that has her so forgiving.

It didn’t take long for Courtney Stodden to pull a Heidi Montag: When people called foul on her plastic surgery and breast implants, she decided to throw on a white bathing suit (to remind us she’s a child bride?) and skip along the beach with husband Doug Hutchison. An Imagining Of The 30 Phone Calls A Day Spencer Pratt Makes To His Agent

Apparently Spencer Pratt is totally broke. Which is a thing that happens when you’ve never actually had a career or any viable talent. Evidently, Spencer calls his agency 30 times a day and they never call him back — which is actually kind of sad. Aw, man. Here’s my imagining of the messages Spencer leaves for his agent, whom I’ve decided to call “Ian” because a kid I went to college with who’s a WME agent now is named that.

1. “Yo, Ian, it’s your main man Spence. The Spencenator. Six Spence None the Richer. We need to talk business. Gotta make those dollars, yo. Call me back.”

2. “Ian, brother, where you at? Hit me back on my cell, homes.”

3. “Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Call me back.”

4. “Um, that last message was Spencer Pratt calling for Ian, if that was unclear.”

5. “Spencer Pratt is a client of Ian’s, if that was unclear.”

6. “Hi, it’s Spencer Pratt. I left some messages earlier and I haven’t heard back, so I’m just making sure they went through. Okay, thanks.”

7. “Ian. Spencer. Let’s talk.”

8. “You make me money, I make you money. Kapeesh?”

9. “Hello, this is President Barack Obama calling. Just kidding, it’s Spencer Pratt! Call me back.”

10. “Hey, can I get one pepperoni pizza for delivery? Just kidding, I can’t afford delivery. Call me back?”

22. “Soo, my dad thinks I may have overreacted and he wants me to apologize. Hey man, you need any dental work? It’s on him, okay?”

23. “I’m sorry, by the way.”

24. “Ian! Hi. It’s Spencer, Spencer Pratt. How you doing, man? Give me a call back when you get a chance, kay?”

25. “Ian! Ian! Ian! Ian!”

26. “If I leaaaaave here tomorrow, would you still remember me? For I must be traveling on now, cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see. But, if I stayed here with you, girl, things just couldn’t be the same.”

27. “Cause I’m freeeeeee as a biiiiird. And this bird, you cannot change.”

29. “Back.”

30. “You man, I’m fuuucked up. I’m over at Brody’s house and there’s Playboy models here and shit, man. Also, I think I might be depressed. Come on out!”

Questionable Choices: Heidi Montag Drinks So Much Alcohol

Holy good god was Heidi Montag shitfaced at her birthday party. The 25-year-old… um, media personality (or whatever you’d call the likes of one such as Heidi) rang in her quarter-decade at the Vegas club Vanity. What an apt name!

Dressed in all gold with her glasses of champagne, Heidi was basically a walking Emmy statue — except instead of holding up the world, she was just trying to hold up her own head. How can someone get this drunk if they know cameras are around? It defies all logic.

Spencer Pratt totally has earplugs in here. Good move, Spencer Pratt.

Happy 25th birthday, Heidi Montag! We’d warn you about those quarterlife crises kids your age go through, but it looks like you managed to do one of those before hitting 25. We know that people mostly look ahead on this auspicious day, but we still really miss the old, cuter Heidi from season 1 of The Hills, before Spencer Pratt and fame inspired her to inflate and tuck her body into a silhouette resembling a Barbie doll. So here’s our gift to you, Heidi: Hindsight.

Nip/Tuck had an episode where they reversed all of Joan Rivers‘ plastic surgeries… there’s still hope for you!

Now don’t get too excited: Nothing is set in stone yet. Audrina Patridge was on Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show this morning, where she said that enough time has passed since the series finale of The Hills (in 2010) that she could see herself and the other cast members getting together to do a movie. God knows that creator Adam DiVello — whose only producing credits are within the incestuous web of Laguna Beach, The Hills, and The City — needs the work. And now that Speidi is dead broke and looking for new reality jobs, the stars could have aligned enough to bring about this unasked-for big-screen sequel.

But the truth is, we don’t actually care about Ol’ Ceiling Eyes and her friends. The real stars we want involved are the fake love interests and faker co-workers that populated their tiny world! If DiVello and MTV could track these bystanders down and pay them enough money, we’d shell out to see their mugs on a forty-foot screen.

You can’t have a Hills reunion without Justin Bobby, the shaggy-haired lothario who ran over Audrina’s heart with his motorcycle more than once. And then he dated Kristin Cavallari. This one’s a keeper — probably not good for Audrina’s sanity, but his every line and facial expression is comic gold.
Kelly Cutrone is a “minor” character only in number of episodes; she was one of the show’s biggest presences, there to tell Lauren when to stop being an asshole and do her job. Really interesting was seeing her bond with Whitney Port on The City; you could see that Kelly had a soft spot for women who wanted to work hard.
We never knew whose friend Jen Bunney was supposed to be, since Lauren once gave her a diamond necklace, but then Jen made out with Lauren’s ex Brody Jenner at her birthday party. Once Lauren kicked her to the curb, Jen crawled over to Heidi’s camp, but Heidi also turned on her: Jen quit her job to star in a reality show with Heidi, but then the latter backed out. That showdown is exactly what we want to see in the movie.
It would make sense to have Jason Wahler only if Lauren joins the movie… or, actually, we could just watch him go after yet another unsuspecting young lady who doesn’t know of his cheating ways.
I think Elodie was my favorite female character: Heidi’s co-worker at Bolthouse Productions, who would stare vacantly and nod when Heidi was fretting over her latest fight with Spencer. But poor Elodie made the mistake of telling Heidi she was going for a promotion, only for Heidi to step in and yank it away from her.

Come to think of it, we haven’t heard much from Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag lately. Are they vacationing in St. Barts? Getting loads of cash to appear at someone’s birthday party? Actually, no — they’re crashing at Spencer’s parents’ place because they’re dead broke, and bemoaning all of their regrets to The Daily Beast. At least, that’s what they say. Since the article is about how every aspect of their incredibly-public lives has been a sham — they never broke up, for one — it’s tough not to add a huge grain of salt to everything they say. But they claim that they’re living out the dark, attentionless side of reality fame. Here, their mistakes, plus some insights into The Hills and everything that came after.

1. Spencer: “We were all getting paid to be people we weren’t for so long that you stop—there’s no line. The gauge is gone. The gray area is gone. We got so deep with how many storylines we had to do to continue the machine… At that point, we were pulling our last cards. We felt the hot-air balloon losing its gas. And at that stage, our income would be selling the photo that would go along with the divorce.”

2. Heidi: “I should have known growing up and not having any money ever that I should have kept every dollar that I had. I thought I was investing in myself and my brand. Like Kim [Kardashian]. When she buys these clothes, she’s investing in herself. Because she is a big brand and is likeable. I thought I had that potential. My ego got too big. To think I could be someone like that when I was the most hated girl ever.”

3. Heidi: “I would film with Spencer and then I would film with Audrina [Patridge]. She would get treated like Meryl Streep and we would get treated like the trash.” (Just the image of Audrina as Meryl Streep is incredible.)

4. Spencer: “I was always, like, ‘Audrina, you hate Kristin [Cavallari]! You guys were just screaming at each other before the cameras turned on! The second the camera turns on, you guys are hugging and being all civil! If you guys just were real, we’d have the No. 1 show on TV!’ The producers would go, ‘Spencer, leave them alone! You can’t do that to the talent!’ ‘Talent? These girls are actresses that are bad actresses! What are you talking about?’”

5. Spencer: “If [MTV] called me right now and said, ‘We want you to be on Jersey Shore and be a bully, and we’ll bring your paycheck back,’ I’d say, ‘Get me on a plane to Italy.’”

Bonus: Spencer has a hell of a story about what the producers planned for ratings. He claims that MTV producer Sara Mast pushed him to get his alcoholic sister Stephanie into a fight. “Her exact quote: ‘That Snooki effect,’” Spencer said. He’s referring, of course, to the famous video from Jersey Shore season 1 where a man punched Snooki so hard her head snapped back. Yes, it still makes us laugh, but that would have been pretty hideous to watch had it been Stephanie.
