The following is a guest post from our friends at Luckymag.com.
Emma Watson broke out of her Hermione Granger mold with one fell chop…of her hair, that is. She seems to have grown up in an instant since the first Harry Potter movies, starring in Burberry ad campaigns, Vogue UK photo shoots, and just looking fabulous around town. Here, her coat is a mix of classic trench with skinny leather sleeves that give it a downtown rocker edge. Even cooler? It can do double-duty as a dress at night, and with jeans during the day. I’m impressed by how many household items and accessories Teen Mom 2 star Chelsea Houska has managed to find in leopard print. In addition to her and baby Aubree’s clothes, she has a leopard print laptop cover, leopard print blankets and sheets, and even a leopard print hair straightener. Even the illustrated icon that represents Chelsea in the Teen Mom 2 credits is a little paw print. Today, Chelsea tweeted a photo of her latest find – a leopard print coffee sleeve. More »
Last week, we had the opportunity to talk to Tron:Legacy’s makeup artist Rosalina da Silva about how to achieve the effects from the movie. This week, I went to Sephora makeup and tried to recreate the look myself. It didn’t go quite as planned. More »
How much would you pay for 3D glasses? If you said “Nothing, they come with the price of an Imax movie , dumb-dumb,” then you’re woefully fashion-backward. See, the new hot product on the market are expensive 3D glasses by designers like Gucci and Armani, which you need to buy like, yesterday, because how else will everyone in that dark theater know how cool you are?
We did a little price-comparison shopping for you, and found out which of these accessories with no pratical application you’ll be asking for in your stocking this year. More »
I’m probably the last person in the world who should tell you what’s fashionable in hair accessories these days. Bobby pins confuse the hell out of me, and I’ve kept my hair short since high school to avoid people discovering I don’t know how to make a french braid. More »
Generally when you go out to a fancy event, you don’t want to look like a moving target. Then again, most celebrities don’t hang out with Dick Cheney, so they’re probably safe. Still, we have to wonder why so much fashion seems to be inspired by an archery board these days. More »
Over at The Frisky, the ladies weren’t a big fan of aleXsandro Palombo‘s latest series. Featuring Anne Frank pointing a gun at a coke-swizzling Hitler‘s head, the collection was called “crass” and was accused of “not saying anything of worth.” Which is true, probably, but if you’re not into WWII revisionist history where the Jews kill Hitler, we guess you have to go destroy your copies of Inglorious Basterds as well. Oh Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, what I won’t do for you two. I was dubious about changing from my normal sneakers into your pink suede Ivy platform boots (part of your Olsenboye line at JCPenney) just in time for Thanksgiving, especially since I was traveling across the country to spend the holidays with my boyfriend’s parents. I mean there is stunt journalism, and then there is relationship-ruining journalism. More »
Sufjan Stevens‘ latest video for “Too Much” might look like a Lite-Brite set exploded onto a hipster collage, but he’s not the first celebrity to recognize the power of electric colors. From Shakira‘s giant pink veil worn during her Portugal show this weekend to anything worn by Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, you’d be hard-pressed to find a famous person not regressing into a fashion palette favored by tweens in the early 90s. After a week of walking around in the classic Ann Taylor pumps, we decided to head towards the other end of the spectrum with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s J.C. Penney line. Because nothing says “Thanksgiving” like 3-inch stiletto pink booties! More »
Brazilian soccer start-turned model Rodrigo Calazans is making our blood run a little warmer this cold November afternoon. The face (and body) of several Terra campaigns, this recent batch of polaroids starring Rodrigo is genius in its simplicity: have cute boy, make him take off shirt, snap photo. Voila! More »
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen do their best two-headed Wampa impression during the 7th annual CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards last night.
Update: We’re not seeing double…the Olsens have worn these coats to 2 other occasions since the beggining of this month! Check it out.

Ugh, here we were, thinking we had come up with literally the most insane thing to spend our money on (Harry Potter magic broomsticks from SkyMall that don’t even vibrate!) when the idly rich in Dubai had to go one up us. ‘Precious Skins‘ offers a new form of semi-permanent tattooing that involves putting actual gold into your skin, lasts a couple weeks, and can cost over $5k. Brilliant! I had all this money and was trying to actually burn it all but the smoke was choking me, so this is a much better solution.
However, if you are not really, really, ridiculously wealthy, here are some ways to get your skin to shimmer like gold without costing you a fortune. More »
At the very end of Fashion Week, Liana and I attended an event where the shwag bag at the end of the night included Pop Chips, Vitamin Water, and….a gift certificate to get “laser hair removal surgery” valued at $295. Uh?
Now, I don’t think the event planners were trying to tell us that we need to wax our upper lips more. But there was something a little bit off-putting about this free “gift.” It’s like giving you a bag of… More »
I’m a plain chapstick and gloss girl. I’ve never understood the point of lip liner (my lips already have a shape!), or thirty different shades of essentially the same color that some girls keep. Then again, if people spent as much time working on their mouths as they did working on their silk-screen projects, maybe I’d feel differently. We’ve collected the best “lip art” we could find to show you that there are more options between “fire-engine red” and “luscious… More »
Back in April, Jezebel posted an article titled “Feathers And Fashion: Native American Is In Style” which pondered the iffy style trends appropriated from a hodgepodge of different tribal cultures. The conclusion?
“All of these cases romanticize Indianness, blur separate traditions (as well as the real and the fake), and some disregard Indian spirituality. So, no, it’s not cute to wear a feather in your hair or carry an Indian rug clutch, it’s thoughtless and insensitive.”
But as Thanksgiving grows nearer, we decided to reopen the issue: More »
If you don’t know about Crushable’s obsession with SpiritHoods, you haven’t been paying attention. The animal-inspired hats with attaching scarves and mittens are the most brilliant accessory to come out of the 21st century, and we just had to know who was behind the clothing-wear that’s cool enough for Ke$ha. We spoke to the founder of SpiritHoods.com, Alexander Mendeluk, and got him to answer a couple of our own questions about the true nature of his inner spirit (hood). More »
At a recent event to turn on the Christmas lights in the Westfield Shopping Centre, popstress Rihanna was sporting a new red ‘do that perfectly matched her fire-engine skirt. It’s a bold fashion move, but we love when celebs pull off the hair/dress color combo. Take a look at our favorite examples! More »
Best Friday EVER! Our long-awaited Spirit Hoods have arrived, which means that over the course of next week we’ll be hanging out in the Barnes and Noble self-help section and various other fun locales, per your request. We’ll also be talking to Spirit Hood founders to hear what motivated them to create the best head/scarf/glove combo ever. More »
